This is a wonderful story of a Dr. who practices medicine on the island of Cephalonia, accompanied by his daughter, Pelagia, to whom he teaches his healing art. It takes place during WWII. When the Italians invade, their paths cross with the officer in command of the Italian garrison, Captain Antonio Corelli, whose most precious possession is his mandolin. It isn't long before Corelli and Pelagia fall in love - despite her engagement to a young fisherman, Mandras, who has gone off to join Greek partisans. There is much more to this, including the horrors of war, but I give it two thumbs up!

Slow to get into, but an amazing story! I read it on abeach in Kefalonia that is featured in the story. Was very poignant!

it was really good in parts like the massacre and the romance between Pelagia and Captain Corelli, other parts were a bit boring but on the whole enjoyed the book

Beautiful book. For me, a learning curve on WWII in southern Europe - the Italians in Greece. Written like poetry.

Fantastic book by a very gifted author. The book did go on a little and I found it a bit hard to get through in the end. Still very glad to have read it.
