Sleek. Powerful. Proud. Agent Carl Hollenbeck moved with the grace of a predator on the prowl. And he always walked alone. In "fighting the good fight," he never got too close - to anyone. #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.
Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.
Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.
Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.
This novel by Susan Mallery seems to be a hidden treasure! Most of Susan Mallery's books have thousands of reviews on them, and this one has barely been touched on most platforms!
Tempting Faith is an absolutely adorable story about Faith and Cort. Faith runs a sanctuary for large cats (which is the BEST job I've ever heard in any book I've ever read) and Cort is an ex-agent who has memory loss about his last mission. These two fall for each other over the length of the novel, all the while Cort is protecting Faith and her sanctuary from some evil men who want her super cute, white tiger cubs.
This book is super sweet and hits all of my musts for romances. Sexy characters, awesome side characters (who doesn't want a giant cat as their house cat?) and a demanding plot. Sure, Faith and Cort had some moments where they complained a fair bit about how their lives weren't fair, but they were still fun characters! I think they were meant for each other, in some strange way. I did think some decisions were changed rather rapidly, and without explanation, but I liked how it all turned out.
I think this book is more of a binge-worthy book. It's fast paced and relatively short. I'd definitely recommend this book if you like romance or a unique spin on the genre! I haven't read many books regarding big cats and taking care of them, so I really liked that aspect of it! That being said, it's not very complex so if you want a big, demanding plot full of mystery and expansive plots then this book won't be for you!
Overall, I loved this book! I want to read more by Susan Mallery and I'm glad I found this book first. It's a hidden gem that most readers don't seem to realize exists!
When a smuggler's prize lands on her doorstep, big-cat sanctuary owner Faith Newlin doesn't expect any problems--not from the two white tiger cubs...or the mysterious government agent sent to protect them. She knows better than to get attached, though sometimes an instinct is too strong to ignore. Agent Cort Hollenbeck has dedicated his life to fighting the good fight. He never gets too close, especially while on assignment. But when terrifying blanks in his memory force him to face his deepest fears, he must trust in a woman who walks on the wild side...and captures his heart. Tempting Faith is part of a duet by Susan Mallery along with her book The Only Way Out. I just love, love, loved this book. What do you get when you have a dangerous sanctuary, a dangerous but recovering agent, and a few cubs that have been sold, stolen, and being searched for again? A great Mallery book. 5 stars.
"This book isn't new, but compared to the Fool's Gold and other books by Susan that I have read, I would say that this is not in her Wheelhouse, but OMG. She did extensive research on this book and described things in details that I could only imagine. She put an entirely new meaning on "CRAZY CAT LADY". I am always impressed when reading Susan Mallery's books, she ventures out of her comfort zone and succeeds."
Quick, rather disposable read about a hired gun and a lady running a big cat sanctuary - at least there's points for originality in terms of the setting! The whole big cat/alpha male thing was a bit on the nose, though, and, not being a fan of alpha males, it was kind of blah for me. The heroine was also unbelievably short on self-esteem, which got to be a bit of a downer. Still, it was readable, and I liked the idea of the story centering around protecting illegally acquired endangered animals, which did strike a chord with me.
Way back when, I read a stack of silhouette romance novels. I remembered a couple as being pretty darned good, so I've been hunting them down today. (Took some work!) This was one of them that, to me, transcended the genre. And it has a cool setting--a wild cat refuge
I loved this book. It is about a woman who manages a way station for large cats, and needed protection because of having kittens that were brought into th country illegally. Well worth reading.
Faith ran a way station for cats, Cort was a "spy" recovering from a mission sent to protect some rare cats and her. Was it possible for them to work together or even be friends as both had issues from their own lives and experiences that continued to get in the way. Will they be able to protect the cats and themselves??
Found in an old box of books in the shed. Checked my list of books read, and I couldn't believe I hadn't read this 1994 story. It must be one of Ms Mallery's early books, as it wasn't her usual style; the sexual parts were very explicit. Her later books left a lot to your imagination, which I prefer. I did like the story itself.
This is a sweet romance with a touch of danger to keep it exciting. Faith is a strong, independent woman who runs a way station for large cats (tigers, jaguars, etc.). She is used to being alone and taking care of herself but she yearns for the love she's missed out on her whole life. Cort is an agent (for an unidentified agency) who is sent to watch over Faith and some wanted tiger cubs while he recovers from injuries sustained in his last mission. Cort doesn't believe in love and knows there is no room for it in his life. But the attraction--and respect--they have for one another is almost instantaneous and irresistible. Will Cort figure out that love can actually make you stronger? And can he figure it out in time to keep from losing the best thing that ever happened to him? This is one of Mallery's earlier books but I think she does a great job of showing the give and take of the characters and showing believable character development and growth.
Although the action scenes at the end of the book didn't strike me as being very probable, Faith and Cort are great characters, and you have to love the cats. There were some I'd never heard of. Well thought out, the progression of events is slow enough that I felt these are real people who hurt and hope, win and lose, achieve and fail. Great story.
