Napakka elämäkerta Israelin kansallisrunoilijasta. Chaim Bialikin parhaat runot ovat hyvin henkilökohtaisia ja epäpoliittisia, mutta hänestä tehtiin syntyvän kansakunnan juhlittu sankari. Samalla teos kuvaa sionismin alkua Odessassa ja muualla nykyisen Ukrainan aluella, missä myös Bialik syntyi ja eli suuren osa elämäänsä.
