(John Huston), -
Quite a romantic memoir about the author's travels in Israel when it was called Palestine as WWI was ending in the region. The author traveled there as part of the Red Cross efforts helping people and refugees torn by war. During his time, Finley walked across Israel and reflected on Bibical stories about the places he visited. Some Old Testament, some New Testament. This book is quite a swoon about his experiences in the Holy Land.
Reading this book during the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza makes me wonder about the experiences of the Muslims in Palestine during WWI and Finley's visit. He swoons over the Christian's experience in the Holy Land with no mention of the Palestinians' perspectives.
It's a fairly quick read. Sadly, the book doesn't have a map in it, which would have made it easier for me to relate to the locations and stories. There are photos in the book, which I enjoyed. I read an original copy of the book.
