This second in Conn's Shadow series is filled with vampires, a vampire slayer, demons, wizards, a Fae prince and an unlikely romance. I think this paranormal romance is actually better than the first book in the series.

Nikki, born a vampire slayer, has "super hearing, super speed, and super strength ... [and is] immune to most vampire magic" but can be killed as easily as any normal human. She's after the vampire that murdered her brother, Deadly Moon, rumored to be the most deadly of the ancient vampires turned by Dracula himself.

Damon, the 400 year old enigmatic vampire from book one, is intrigued by the petite, beautiful slayer. He is not the usual type of vampire as Nikki finds out. He refuses to let himself be drawn in by her, a human who will age and die leaving him to mourn for eternity. But he can't help but watch over her.

When Nikki first meets Damon she is appalled to find herself attracted to him, that she lets him kiss her. A vampire! The chemistry between these two is off the charts hot.

WB, formerly of Pentim's clan, who we met briefly in book one as well, took over the clan after Pentim's death and made it a bunch of thugs who are threatening the safety of all vampires by not being discriminating and careful. Damon knew he and Chad should have killed him when they had the chance. Now they have a major problem.

Clara with the strange "scenting" power, also from book one, returns with a small part in this story. Chad, the lead from book one makes a cameo appearance.

Claudy Conn does an excellent job of making this a stand alone story while incorporating some of the characters from the first book and introducing us to several new characters. Ya gotta luv an author who can work in a reference to Stephen Hawking in a paranormal romance. {grin}

The war is still brewing and now the fae are becoming involved. Can't wait for the next book in the series. I hope to see more of Chad, Shawna, Damon, Nikki and others from these stories in future books.

This is another one I couldn't put down and read in a single sitting. I got so caught up in the action I was sad to see it end. Fans of the paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampire genres should enjoy this as well.

I am beyond tired once again. That seems to happen every time I read one of Claudy's books. I never seem to be able to put it down and end up staying up most of the night. This book is part two of her vampire series and features Damon, one of the characters from book one, and Nikki, a slayer. I love it when female heroines kick butt :). This book sucked me in from the first page and did not let me out until I had read every page.
I adored the characters and felt like the story line made some nice developments. I am really interested to see how the main story arc plays out. I was beyond excited to have Breslyn and Ete making an appearance in the story and am very interested in how this series will mingle with her fae series (it is one of my all time favorite series). I can not pinpoint what it is about her writing exactly, but it is beyond addictive. I can not wait to begin the next book!!!

For those following Claudy Conn's most recent work, in particular the Shadow series, book 2, ShadowHeart -Slayer does something surprising in series literature. It forms a cross connection between two of Claudy Conn's paranormal series. Don't worry I won't spoil it for you, but I will tell you that this is one hell of a heroine. Nikki Walker is my kind of roundhouse kicking, vamp slaying gal and, in ShadowHeart -Slayer, she makes all other slayers seem contrived and juvenile. Nikki Walker is exciting, and in spite of being a little inexperienced fighting the evil undead, she is a more believable slayer than Buffy and other paranormal slayer-wanna-bees. It is possible that some of her appeal may come from the hero Claudy has matched her with.

Damon Drummond is a vampire. He is ancient, and more powerful than any vampire she has yet encountered, more mysterious, and oh so darkly desirable. In all respects, except for one, he raises her alarms and yet, for Slayer Nikki Walker, it is that one point where he staggers her comprehension. There is something that is just Not Vamp about him and that makes her hesitate. That something means everything to a slayer and because of it she can't figure out if she should plunge a wooden stake through his heart or give him the key to her own. For his part, Damon has no doubts about how he feels towards Nikki. She is his to protect, and confound, simultaneously winning her heart, while thwarting her sole purpose, in denying her the vengeance she pursues. Separately they are formidable enemies, but when they combine forces the sparks fly and the chemistry explodes.

Claudy Conn knows women and what women want from paranormal romance and vampire fiction. She gives you just enough heat to ignite your desires and then sweeps you away into a wildly exciting adventure. Her romances are always thrilling and able to stand on their own, but it is her gift for being able to weave them into the broader context of a series that sets her novels apart. If you want lust, you want Conn. If you want magic and mystery, you want Conn. If you want tension, darkness, fear, excitement, and drama, you want Conn! You want everything Conn's got and then . . . you'll want it again.

This is the 2nd book in Claudy's Shadow Series. In this book we get more engrossed into the vamp, Fae, magical world.

It is so well written that when reading this book it totally played out like a movie.
It felt like a combination of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Underworld. We get the best of both worlds with added extra's.

Nikki is a fiery haired vamp slayer hell bent on revenge. Will she accomplish her revenge without losing herself in the process?

Damon is a special vampire, we meet Damon in book one. He is always so mysterious. A mystery Nikki wants to unravel.

These 2 become a team to rid the world of the gruesome vampires wanting to take over the world.

Claudy's take on Dracula and the surrounding world is fantastic. I love her twist to the tale.

This book takes you on a fun journey, its filled with action, mystery, mayhem, magic, emotion, lust, passion and sizzling romance.

I loved it! A must read :)

My thoughts:
First off thanks to Claudy Conn I was able to read this book.
Second I absolutely love this cover. It's now in my top ten.
Third If you haven't read any of her books this series is a definite to read.
Fourth Can't wait for the next book to come. :D

The Review:
Shadow Heart-Slayer picked up the pace quicker then the first book and that was simply yay. I love how the book is was set up. Nikki slowly gets smarter though out the book and Damon well he's just a big tease. The whole book he taunts her from their dreams too just standing in the room with her.
There were two main conflicts throughout the book. First we learn about them and how awful the bad guys are. Then in the last 20% The battles are fought and the problems are solved. Simple and easy fights in a book are my favorite.

Now some questions:
1)When you read a book do you prefer long fights or would you rather they be
simple and over with?
2)When you think of a vampire slayer what do you see? Do you like the thought of them being with vampire the very being they live to hunt for?
3)What are your thoughts on the cover?

ShadowHeart Slayer by Claudy Conn
Shadow Series Book 2
Damon Drummond isn’t your usual vampire. For one thing he’s not out for blood like most other vampires. A handsome man of mystery from his head of raven hair to his silver tipped black boots. Four hundred years old and he’s having issues like wanting to protect a slayer. A stubborn, fiery haired, beautiful slayer! He’s regretting a decision that has come back to bite him in the arse and he's trying to keep his friends safe from being discovered by Count Vlad Dracula.

Nikki Walker is a slayer….a vampire slayer. So why in the world is she feeling pulled towards the handsome Damon, who of all things is the very thing she kills? She is out for revenge and it's brought her to Dublin. Everything about her brother’s murder points to a woman vampire named Deadly Moon and she will stop at nothing to find and kill her. Justice for Jack, nothing less will do. Only Damon keeps blocking her, the one man who knows where Deadly Moon is. Well him and having to save the world with her slayer skills.

If you enjoy series books you’ll definitely want to take the time to read ShadowLove Stalkers, the first in this series. Damon is introduced in this book along with some of the others who are in ShadowHeart as well. I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from the Legend Series in this book too. I didn’t feel left hanging at the end of the book but you do know that there is definitely more to come in book 3, ShadowLife Hybrid.

I absolutely LOVE this series!! I would give this book 6 stars if I could, it was just that good. Once I started it, I found it completely impossible for me to put it down.

The world that Claudy creates in her stories is beyond words, and I absolutely love the characters. Damon, oh my how I love Damon. Of course who doesn't love a hot sexy vampire.

I've already purchased the next book in this series, and can't wait to see how the story unfolds. Thanks Claudy for another amazing book!! <3

My Thoughts and Review

Oh My ! This series keeps getting better and better. Who would have thought a vampire and a vampire slayer not me ! I am just so loving this series it is nice to be excited by a new author its been a while for me so this is a nice treat.Claudy's books are just full of mysteries and by that I mean her characters they are all so mysterious and are not what they all seem on the surface and yet so much more.

We met Damon in book one of the series and I was falling for him then with his mysterious ways about him and his talk and dark brooding looks but, after reading his story I am totally in love.He is tall dark and dangerous and a very powerful and yet has a caring and sensitive side to the 1000 plus year old vampire that one would not expect.Nikki Walker vampire slayer is on the war path to avenge her brothers death.. But , at every turn Damon is in her way.The person Nikki is after is a very close friend of Damon's and he just cannot believe she would murder someone in cold blood even for a vampire.

The two go round and round.Damon is so much more then a vampire and Nikki does sense this he knows way to much about her. He says she has untapped powers that need to be released in order to fight the war they have ahead of them. War she is not here for war she is here for one purpose only and that is to kill the vampire that killed her brother.

Nikki and Damon make and odd couple right? A slayer and a ancient vampire? These two have a connection whether they want one or not the sparks are always there between these two.You feel heartache for the couple as there looks to be no future for the both of them one mortal and one immortal.

Nikki and Damon team up for whats ahead and develop a relationship not knowing were it would take them they will have to just have to live in the moment right ? New characters are introduced to us and the people who look the most normal have secrets themselves and it is so hard to trust anyone as they are not who they seem.Chad from book one graces our pages in this story and I was glad to see him there as Damon and he have developed a lasting relationship.

The story had so much going on that you need to pay attention so many developments coming to life. The story was a page turner from the very beginning trouble followed Nikki everywhere. We saw her grow more powerful throughout the story which would have made her brother Jack very proud .They story was full with wonders and laughs and magic and so much more. The Camaraderie between the two main characters had me smiling on a off throughout the book. More of the puzzle comes to light but, the danger is still there and they are all still in for another adventure. The stories new characters were all so amazing I am talking about the good one of course not the bad ones ! LOL Just love them all ..

This was another amazing read and and enjoyable tale .As always can't wait to read the next in the series to see what happens next I am on pins and needles!A recommended read to all and Claudy is at the top of the list for people to read in my book anyway. Kept the stories coming Claudy...........your biggest fan............

Oh how I loved this second book In the Shadow Vampire Series!!!

Shadowheart-Slayer was a story that just took me right into the story, as so many of Claudy Conn's books do. I loved that this series is not your everyday, hum drum Vampire story that is out there in masses. Miss Conn takes a refreshing new twist into her Vampires. They are hot, hunky and 'amazing', well some are evil as well. The story has Vampires, Vampire Slayer, Demons, Wizards, oh my!!!

Our heroine is Nikki, the Vampire Slayer. Nikki has very special talents required of a Vampire Slayer and is after the Vampire that murdered her brother.

Our hero is Damon, a 400 year old Vammpire that you met in book one of this series, ShadowLove-Stalkers. Although Damon is intrigued by Nikki's beauty and 'special talents' he refuses to allow himself to be drawn into her any further knowing that she is a human with a limited life span and he will live on long after she is gone. He does, however, want to continue to watch over her and protect her.

There is lots of action, intrigue, suspense and some very romantic scenes that will take your breath away and will keep you entertained from the beginning to the end of this wonderful story.

I am so looking forward to book three in this series, Shadowlife-Hybrid.

In Claudy Conn's usual style, grammar, spelling and punctuation were spot on. Thanks once again for another terrific read, Claudy.

ShadowHeart Slayer is a nonstop, action-packed read that will grab the reader and practically leave one breathless. It is indeed intense with excitement from the beginning to the end. The refreshing characters know how to take aim at the audience and pull them in for the thrilling ride. Nikki and Damon are magnetic players showing a wide range of emotions and expressions, even the really dastardly bad guys come into play. Claudy Conn has created a great plot and a storyline that keeps the story flowing while bringing the audience into some high-flying excitement. Nikki and Damon are magnetic players who make this read excellent.

Claudy has linked this story to the Fae with Breslyn saving several characters....

The love and romance felt more real than the usual rush - it builds up slowly and although they try to resist the attraction - it continues to build and grows deeper...
Not the roller-coaster ride of #1 but it was like watching the tide swelling up ans swallowing rocks and sands and then gently lapping back and forth.
Rushing off to complete tasks required in normal world then settling back in a comfy chair to visit Claudy's world in the next installment of the intriguing tale.
What more could you ask for? ** cheeky grin **

I love Claudy's books but this series has quickly catapulted into my favourites, the characters are likeable and easy to relate to. Damon is my favourite of Claudy's heroes... so far! The world building is easy to follow and develops into an intriguing and fresh look at the vampire mythology. I love how it ties in to her Fae series while still being unique. It has lots of possibilities for moving the plot forward. The witches, slayers and demons are a high point for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I can not wait to see what is in store for the characters, it's definitely a story that has longevity and I could revisit it time and time again

This is my first book by Claudy Conn and I really loved it. This vampire story is my kinda vampire story! I loved Chad, he is so alpha male who loves to tease but in the end ended up with the girl, Shawna been that girl was strong but had a soft vulnerable side as well which is good as they were perfectly suited! I'm so glad I chose this book and I am looking forward to reading the dark and mysterious Damon!!!

Hmmm...From the blurb and the precedent set in book one (Shadow Love: Stalkers) I expected this book to have (or at least aim for) a deep, brooding vampire and a kick-ass slayer/heroine. Certainly Damon was just so in the last book. For a little while, in the beginning, that's what I got too.

Then everything took a turn for the Twilight Zone. Suddenly there were, not only vampires, but demons, hybrids, and inter-dimensional monsters in an enchanted wood, which just happened to surround a magical castle. It was, however, when I reached the kindly, white bearded wizard a la Fantasia, in the blue, sparkly, conical hat, silken robes and Harry-Potter-like wand that I had a fairly serious WTF moment. I only became more confused as witches, warlocks and fae were later thrown into the fray.

It was like the book completely lost focus for a little while, drifted and then simply picked up in some quixotic fairytale instead of a PNR vampire novel when it reestablished itself. I was left dazed and confused, until I shifted into irritated and disappointed. I didn't set out to read a fairytale and there was no warning that it was what I was getting into.

What's more, Nikki went from the hard-nosed, independent slayer of the first couple chapters to a sweet, polite, girl next door with a propensity to hug people and kiss the cheeks of affable old men. Talk about a personality 180°. I wanted to drop the book right there at 50%, but I forced myself on so I wouldn't have to DNF.

I try really hard to find at least a few good things to say about a book and I see from other reviews that people like it. So, I'll happily admit that this was perhaps a mismatch of reader and book. But I was seriously disappointed. Both because the story I ended up reading in no way resembled the one I set out for and because I thought it wasn't particularly well put together. *cringe*sorry**

The narrative was repetitive. For example, WB's feelings and thoughts about Clara were related just about every time they were in the same room. The same kind of thing can be said for both Nikki and Damon. We're told what they think of the other again and again and again without it changing much until the end. Then it just becomes rather staid, rushed sex scenes.

The narrative felt quite stiff, with characters too often using names and endearments in conversation and even frequently using full names where one would suffice. At first I thought this was a certain character's habit, but then others did it too. There were also periods where people seemed to stop using contractions, leaving everyone sounding oddly formal all of the time.

Plus, I just found myself cringing over some things. For example, I found the whole "shifted into vampire speed" or "put on the slayer speed" cheesy beyond imagination. Maybe because it was used so often, but mostly because I imagined them shifting gears, like in a car.

My main complaint, however, was that like in the previous book, the author set up one primary plot (in this case hunting down the killer of her brother) and then completely ignored it for most of the book, while unrelated distractions were thrown at the main character and reader. This left the whole thing feeling fragmented.

I don't want to be mean here. I truly appreciate how hard writing a book is and for a different reader maybe this one will be a winner. It was, after all, very creative and imaginative, but I've finished it now and am still kinda reeling in a state of perpetual WTF. I had such high hopes for the dark and mysterious Damon too. They didn't pan out.

REVIEW:
Nicky Walker is a Slayer as the story goes on she learns and remembers what her mother had told her. She is not just a slayer of vampires but also of other beings. Nicky is out for revenge of her brothers death and she thinks / obsesses that its Moon who did it . Damon tries to make Nicky understand that things are not what they always seem. Although Nicky is a slayer she has a huge attraction to Damon where will it lead though?
Nicky and Damon team up with Shawna and Chad to battle against the Vampire WB whom Chad let live and its a battle for their lives.
We learn also alot more about Chads father and mother in this book !! As well as who killed Jack . I would recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal romance..

DNF-now, I usually am supportive of the hard work of other authors, but for me this was absolute, utter garbage. I'm not saying it wouldn't be good for others, but it's not for me. If you liked it, great, stop here and don't read on. But, if you're a clean reader, you might want some facts.

There were so many grammar mistakes, as well as content mistakes, that it bordered on absurb. The main character would get her answers, and then in the next chapter she didn't have a clue what was going on, and no one would tell her. This type of exposition went on again and again. We could cut out so much of the extra rewriting, and it would be a much better story. There were also content mistakes, things like one second she is wearing a skirt, the next she has jeans on, that should have been grabbed by an editor. And common sayings that were written wrong, which was annoying and abrupt, breaking you from the story. I really tried to give it a good effort, but I kept getting distracted easily, bored with the storyline to the point I would put it down, then, hours later, force myself to pick it up again.
My final straw was the bedroom scenes...well, needless to say, I quit there. Not something I want to waste my time on, as I don't particularly care to read such things.

For my clean readers: Language-some, including at least one f-bomb. Violence-torture, attempted murder, kidnapping, murder, attempted rape, discussion of rape, and child murder. Romance-kissing, discussion of bedroom scenes, graphic details that need to be skipped over regularly, and probably more, as I stopped at the beginning of a major one. This is an adult book. Not for YA.

Notes on the narrator...
While the narrator is absolutely brilliant when it comes to multiple voices and accents her delivery of the text when it comes to the non speaking parts is sort of robotic. It drove me crazy! Plus I absolutely hate her version of Damon. I wasn't fond of it in book one and I'm still not.

I enjoyed the story, but the sex scenes did not add anything to the story. The story was strong enough to stand on it's own.

This second book in the series is better than the first, really building on the world that was created. I am enjoying this rich world that the author has created from known myth, giving it her own spin.

We get to know more about yummy Brit Damon in this book. Oh sigh, he is a tall, dark, delicious drink of water! I wish we had a bit more of how he was turned, everything else was great. Things are given as piece mail throughout the book, it really is work pulling the whole story out of him.

Nikki is kick butt and kind of awesome. She does have moments when her heart overtakes her head and she does seriously stupid things. You want to tell her to get her act together, she is a Slayer after all! She should not get caught in the too stupid to live trap. I love her sassy attitude.

Damon and Nikki take turns with the narrative, having both their POV is key to understanding the dynamic. They have a great banter that keeps the relationship light. There are a couple guest POV as well, puts you into the villains motives as well. I like that turn, it makes the whole story more engaging.

There is of course a smexy element to this story, bedroom door is open. For me these were the only scenes that didn't really work. They felt strangely worded. It wasn't so much to put me off reading, but it was a bit odd. But I do read a lot of seriously naughty books, so you may not have the same issues.

There seems to be a theme in this series, loads of training and then a fight scene that is kind of a fizzle. I guess after all that build I expected more of a battle royale.

This book also sees the introduction of several supporting characters. It was great getting their stories and seeing how they all fit into the puzzle. I know Clara is meant to be a bad girl, but I kind of want her to get a HEA, I don't think she is beyond redemption. I am also on the fence about Dracula, he seems to have mellowed or is he really still a big bad, time and the next book will tell.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Valerie Gilbert, who is a delight! So many accents to manage in this book, she really does a great job of juggling them while keeping them consistent and distinct. He pace is spot on, keeping the story moving and adding to the action scenes. I love the smooth even tones to her voice and how beautifully she fits this series.

The first book in the series had some shaky moments for me, but i am really happy I stuck with the series. I can not wait to see what happens next and where this will all lead.
