The true story of Heather Valencia's journey to Yaqui, and her experiences with Anselmo Valencia, the spiritual leader of the Yaqui people and Heather's future husband.
In Queen of Dreams author Heather Valencia describes her passionate love affair with Anselmo, her discovery of the rich Yaqui spiritual tradition under Amselmo's guidance, her otherworldly spiritual explorations, and her mystical activities with the powerful circle of Dreaming Women.
This book felt like a conversation with the author. I enjoyed the way she matter-of-factly shared experiences that are simply not part of modern, everyday North American culture. I would have liked a little more information so that is why I didn't quite give it five stars... and yet, maybe the book itself was meant to feel a bit like a dream. I am still pondering the idea at the end related to the amount of time Ms. Valencia served the Yaqui. I don't want to say more about that because it could be a spoiler, but this story certainly lends itself to really considering how people come and go in our lives.
enjoyed the beginning of this book. in fact I identified very strongly with her dreams and her communing with nature.. but the second part of the book left me a bit.. i don't know.. blank.. or wanting more.. something.. i do like her style though.. simple yet beautiful descriptions of nature, love, ideas and culture
