Ray Hawkins illuminates scripture by showing us what the Bible has to say about children and parenting. Each devotion is grounded in Biblical truth and provides us with an understanding of the magnitude of God’s deep and abiding love for His precious children. We learn about the special responsibilities given to parents and carers regarding how they can love and nurture the children in their care.

Practical parenting tips and pearls of wisdom are included and the devotions are written in an easy to read conversational style. The Reflection/Action section at the end of each devotion challenges us to think about our relationships with the children in our lives and how we can put into practice Godly principles. I highly recommend this devotion, especially to parents and carers.

Ray Hawkins has put together 31 Biblical devotions to help us catch God’s heart for children. This devotional has encouraged me to speak up for those who cannot yet speak for themselves. As a homeschooling mum, I have been encouraged with the gentleness God feels towards children. I have been reminded to listen as children speak… really listen and encourage their openness. With each page Ray refreshes our love and joy that radiates through children.

Even a new Christian reading Scripture for the first time can discern that children have a special place in God’s heart and on reading a new devotional Children: God’s Special Interest it is obvious that they have a special place in author Ray Hawkins’ heart also.

Each of the 31 Biblical studies begins with a Scripture reading that is followed by a key verse. The reading and the verse are then fleshed out with interesting teaching and extra information.

Each study concludes with an appropriate prayer and reflection/action. The action is a challenge to do something about the injustice metered out to children or for the reader to be willing to be transformed and changed by the renewing the mind.

Children: God’s Special Interest should appeal to all who work with children in a Christian setting. It should appeal to parents are willing to make a decision to study the easily read book for just a month. It might just be the best book they will ever read and their children will benefit just as much. DS

This is another devotional gem from Ray Hawkins, this time on the theme of children, both biological and spiritual, and the joy and privilege of parenting. He shares out of his knowledge of Scripture and his experience as a father of three children. It is an excellent resource for parents, Sunday-School teachers, child-care workers and anyone who is involved with children. WN

I highly enjoyed this series of devotionals. Hawkins uses the theme "child" as a springboard to get us thinking all manner of deeper thoughts about the nature of God/Jesus... as well as our own natures. Thank you Mr Hawkins for an excellent book.
