Beatrice: The First Modern Edition of a Great Victorian Novel

Rate this book
First published in Paris in the 1920s, Beatrice was probably written in Britain at the end of the nineteenth century. It is remarkable both for the standard of its prose and for the subject matter, and this edition has an explanatory introduction by Patrick Henden. Beatrice, the twenty-five year old heroine of the story, flees a loveless marriage and, together with her equally attractive sister Caroline, finds comfort and a new beginning in the disciplined household of her aunt and uncle.
