Shirlene Dalton has it a dream marriage to a man who spoils her rotten and the most outrageous mansion Bramble, Texas, has ever seen. But when her husband unexpectedly dies, Shirlene finds herself right back where she started-in a rundown trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Never the type to let a little bad luck and a whole heap of heartache get her down, Shirlene is ready to prove to the local gossips she can make it on her own . . . until she ends up living next door to the most tempting cowboy in town.

Billy Wilkes has a score to settle and a plan to wipe Bramble right off the map. But when his sexy, redheaded neighbor figures out what he's up to, his good ol' boy charm won't be enough to save him. With the town on his tail, Billy will have to come clean quick-or kiss Shirlene goodbye.

My Review:
I love Katie's little town of Bramble. Seriously, I laugh out loud constantly while reading these books and this one with Bubba's (aka: Billy) exploits had me rolling! (By the way, I am from West Texas and it should be noted that we really aren't this bad of hicks....I swear!)

This book features Shirlene. I'll admit, she hasn't been my favorite character of the series, but I bawled my eyes out when her husband died in book #2. In this book, we see a very different Shirlene than the rich trophy wife that we've known so far. The months since her husband's sudden death haven't been kind. What I love about her character is that she's truly a positive person. Not much gets her down which is pretty amazing considering her awful background. In this book, she's in the process of losing everything, but she has someone else to focus on...four kids who need some help. OMG, I loved what the kids added to this story. They add so much depth and emotion to the story for both Shirlene and Billy who quickly find themselves caring and loving these 4 kids from age 11 months to 16 years.

Bubba/Billy is beloved by this little town. He may be from East Texas, but they have embraced him as one of their own. And when this town accepts you as one of their's, they will take care of you any way possible. Another thing I love about these books....the town of Bramble seriously is its own character.

Flat out, this was simply a fun book to read. The humor is irreverent and in-your-face with west Texas stereotypes, but I really just loved it. For me, it never becomes too much. I loved Shirlene and loved watching her growth as a person in this book. I loved Billy especially after realizing how much of Bubba is just an act he's putting on for the benefit of the town. There's an underlying mystery to the book too (about one of Billy's ancestors who was murdered in the town of Bramble in the late 1800's which has left the Cate family cursed), that I don't think is quite played out yet. It will be interesting to see how that goes with Billy's two brothers...can I say that I already love Beau with his prematurely grey hair... *sigh*

I definitely recommend this series! I love it and not just because it features all the towns and traditions (football, oil) from West Texas where I grew up....Midland, Odessa, Lubbock.

Hot hillbilly cowboy dumber than rocks but really has a secret identity? Check.
Sassy gold digging widow with a heart of gold? Check.
Four orphans camping out at said gold digging widow's old digs? Check.
Town full of good ol' folks who cain't seem to keep their mouth shut from gossiping about anyone and everyone even though it's probably not true? Check.

Welcome to Bramble, Texas.

Shirlene Dalton has been kicked out of her home due to the fact that she can't make payments on it. She's spent all her dead husband's money and didn't realize it until reality came knocking in the form changed locks on her mansion.

Billy "Bubba" Wilkes is in town trying to take care of some business. At least until a sexy long legged cool drink of water comes back to his part of the woods. From that moment on, Bubba is enchanted by Shirlene. He shouldn't be because lord knows she's probably on the hunt for her next sugar daddy.

Everyone has secrets and Shirlene and Bubba are full of them. Shirlene has no money so she returns to the trailer she grew up in, only to get chased away by some Texas Chainsaw Massacre-like wielding psycho and into the arms of none other than Bubba Wilkes. Dang hillybilly is full of southern charm and will let her take a tour of Wilkesville. Heh! Turns out the chainsaw wielding psycho is one of four children who have taken up residence in Shirlene's trailer.

At first Shirlene doesn't know what to do with them but over time, they grow on her. She's even filled out papers to be their foster parent until she can find them a good home. Of course, she wants her old life back. Or at least her McMansion.

Things heat up between Shirlene and Bubba. It all comes down to: will they give in to that attraction, will the children find a good home and once Shirlene and Bubba's secrets are all laid out, can they learn to forgive? And will Bubba's family curse be lifted? Yeah, there's a family curse and apparently, Bramble is where it all began.

FAVORITE QUOTE:

Bubba stood at the bottom of the steps. A country boy in faded jeans and bare feet. A redneck with stubbled jaw and wavy hair. A knight in shining armor who always seemed to be there when she needed him.

OVERALL:
Confession: It took me several tries to finish this book. I kept picking it up, putting it down. At first, Shirlene just grated on my nerves. I wanted to slap her so hard, her teeth would knock back into her head. She was totally self-centered. All she cared about was getting her house and the good life back. Nothing could stand in her way. Not even four helpless kids who obviously were shacking up in her old trailer. Then Bubba with his good ol' southern boy charm was laying it on a bit too thick that I wanted to hurl. Once things unraveled including the identity of the new bank owner as well as the person taking up residence in Shirlene's McMansion, it got interesting. Once Shirlene realized that she might not get her old life back, the story started to get interesting. Mentions of characters from the previous two books have me intrigued. Looks like I'll be dusting off my copies of those when I get a chance.

Catch Me a Cowboy is book three in the A Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane, and I have to say it is my favorite so far. This one made me laugh, cry, and touched my heart in a way that you want from a good book. Like the other two the people in this book come alive. You feel like you know them.

Shirlene Dalton had it all until her much older husband died suddenly of a heart attack. Her world quickly is falling apart. She did so much retail therapy that now she is homeless. The bank has foreclosed on her big mansion, so she is forced to return to the trailer she grew up in on the wrong side of the tracks. What she is not prepared for is to have 4 orphans living in the trailer or the sexy neighbor that stirs things in her she though died with her husband.

Billy “Bubba” Wilkes came to Bramble with on purpose, and that was to wipe it off the map. He thinks Shirlene is nothing but a self-centered gold-digger, and certainly doesn’t like that he is attracted to her. He uses his good ol’ boy persona to get close to many of the townspeople and to drive Shirlene crazy. But to his surprise Shirlene isn’t anything like he thought she was, and he falls for her quick. But will she and the town forgive him for the things he has done in the name of revenge??

I absolutely adored this book!! It was written in a way that you are captured by the story, and it doesn’t let you go till you reach the end. Once I started it I couldn’t stop. I am in love with the town of Bramble and its town full of busy bodies. The scenes with Shirlene and the kids grab onto your heart!! And Billy is one smoking hot & quick-witted redneck!! I can’t wait for her to put out the next on in this series, and I will be looking at her other books for sure!! Hope y’all enjoy this one as much as I did!!

Simplemente fantástico. Un libro sencillo, sin grandes aspiraciones que se lee con una sonrisa en la boca. Personajes entrañables y un pueblo majareta, que me ha hecho reir continuamente.
El que más me ha gustado de la serie.

(review originally posted on blog in April) I finished Catch Me a Cowboy by Katie Lane the other day. It's the 3rd book in the series and definitely did not disappoint. I wasn't sure how I'd like it without the main characters from the 2 other books being more front and center, but Billy (Bubba) Wilkes and Shirlene Dalton were definitely great leads.

Not only did poor Shirlene lose her husband but due to some bad financial management, she loses her house as well. Now, part of me didn't feel sorry for her. She had all that money that she just spent and spent and spent, knowing there wasn't anymore where all that came from. And yet she didn't stop spending. Part of me wanted to say, "Well, it's your own fault." But I know that sounds heartless. Another part of me feels sorry for her. She was depressed after the love of her life died and tried to fill the void with material things. And it just didn't work.

Bubba has let a family legend sour him on a group of people who've come to love him and trust him. People who didn't know they didn't have a chance as far as he was concerned. Or at least... that's how it started. Bubba didn't plan to have them grow on him. He didn't plan to become friends with them. And he didn't plan to fall in love with the spitfire living next door to him. Or the baggage that she picked up when she went home.

I loved Shirlene. She was definitely down and out, but put her heart and soul in to not letting anyone find out. She was determined to right the situation she was in no matter the cost. You've gotta give her credit for her guts and her persistance. And Bubba. He's full of surprises, some good some not, but his heart is the size of Texas. Even if he refuses to believe it.

This was a great book. A quick read and a fun one. I can't wait for book number four to come out later this year (I think)! I would recommend this to anyone over the age of 18 as it is an adult romance novel. But especially for adults who find themselves wanting to be swept away by love... or an incredibly good looking cowboy.

Catch Me A Cowboy is the 3rd book in the Deep In The Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I honestly didn’t think I could enjoy a book in this series more than the last one, but I was wrong. I loved, loved, loved it!

Shirlene Dalton grew up rough. She escaped it all when she married a very wealthy, older man. Most people assume she married Lyle for money and many would be surprised to find out she loved him. Now, he’s died of a heart attack and she’s all alone and back to square one. She’s been spoiled for so long and she was so depressed she spent every penny that Lyle left her. Add to that, Lyle’s failing business and loans that were taken out and she’s losing her home, as well. What’s a girl to do? She goes back to the beat up and battered trailer that she grew up in until she could find a way out of this mess. She quickly finds she is out of her element. Her trailer has been taken over by a family of 3 runaway kids. Most people would turn them in and kick them out. Not Shirlene, she keeps her sunny outlook, even though she can barely feed herself. The one big hitch in her step is her redneck neighbor. She has little patience for his good ol’ boy bumbling and his reputation for getting a woman in his bed at the snap of his fingers.

Billy Wilkes has a century old curse to settle. His great grandfather twice removed was shot by the mayor of Bramble, Texas. The family has been cursed ever since. Billy is convinced that the curse will be lifted if he can find his grandfather’s remains and give them a proper burial and then make the small town pay for all his family has endured. He’s been playing the part of redneck for a long while to gain their trust and to find out what he can about the town’s history. He’d do anything to find those remains. That is until now. He’s made a few really good friends and he is drawn to his redheaded neighbor. She’s not the woman he always assumed she was.

This book was so funny and sweet and heartbreaking and sexy and everything you love to read. Billy’s redneck act is priceless. Shirlene jumping into motherhood with both feet and making a huge, but loving mess of things is precious. The crazy townspeople never disappoint. Read this book! You will thank me.

Review from Backchatting Books

This is probably my favourite in this series because Shirlene is such a genuine and generous creature. Life seemed to be easy for her in the first two books as her wealthy husband indulged her every whim. At the end of the last novel, "Make Mine a Bad Boy", he passed away though and the company he worked for went bust. Shirlene is kicked out of her beautiful mansion and with no other options, moves into a tacky trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Her redneck neighbour Bubba Wilkes aka Billy Cates has a grudge against Bramble and intends to destroy it. Shirlene doesn’t figure into his plans but she is pretty hard to ignore.

Shirlene is in complete denial after her husband dies. Her behaviour gets more erratic and it isn’t until she loses her house that I really started to connect with her. Finally she shows grit and somehow manages to maintain a positive attitude despite everything that has happened. She clawed her way out of trailer life before her marriage and she’s determined to prove she can make something of herself again. Four orphans worm their way into her affection and her interactions with them were enjoyable to read. Not convinced? Three words – chainsaw wielding teen.

Billy may be a redneck but he is superstitious. He’s convinced that generations of bad luck in his family stem from the murder of his ancestor William Cates in Bramble. If he can find William’s bones, he’s hoping he can break the family curse. Billy’s hiding his real identity and connection with Dalton Oil. Annoying Shirlene is a side-perk but that’s okay because she’s just a gold-digger, right? It takes a while for his perceptions to change but when they do, prepare for Bubba lovin’.

"Catch Me a Cowboy" is rife with humour, especially when it comes to the stereotypical townsfolk who are well meaning but just plain crazy. It’s definitely sweeter than the last novel as we have kids involved and huge character growth. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is book 3 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas Series. I've listened to all three books and recommend all of them. Listening to the books in order is preferable (so you can get to know the crazy people of Bramble, TX) but not necessary. This is a story about picking up the pieces of your life and starting over. It's about appreciating family and friends and realizing that truly the best things in life are free.

Although this story is very fun, there are parts that are very sad and I cried my eyes out (and I'm not a crier). But all the suffering was so very worth it to get such a satisfying wonderful ending. I can't wait for the next book to come out in audio format.

Narration: Nicole Poole is a great narrator. She nails that Texan drawl! And she adds to the story by making it funnier and more vivid. I actually started reading this book and found the audio version much better. If you are looking for a fun contemporary romance listen and don't mind the heavy Texan drawl then you need to get this.

Spoiler Ahead This was a book three in the "Deep in the Heart of Texas Series" Shirlene Dalton had it all she went from living in a trailer to living in the most outrageous mansion Bramble, Texas to back to the trailer when her husband dies unexpectedly. Shirlene was not one of my favorite character's in this series although I did feel bad when her husband died in book two. Bubba/Billy Wilke is new to this little town, but they have embraced him as one of their own. And when this town accepts you as one of there own they will take care of you. Bubba has a secret and a score to settle with the town. I loved the fact that Shirlene was willing to help the orphans living in her trailer. Each one of them have secrets and both of them knew what they wanted. This book was also funny at times Shirlene and Bubba were very passionate and the sex scenes were hot. This book was well written or read as I listened to it on audio. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.

I'm really enjoying this series and all the crazy characters that live in the small Texas town where each book takes place. Each book stands alone but I recommend reading them in order as the characters show up book to book. This is book 3 about Shirlene Dalton who finds herself broke after the death of her wealthy older husband. She ends up living back in the rundown trailer where she grew up, which also is home to four runaway orphans who have been hiding out there. Next door lives a hot cowboy who is not who he says is. It is hilarious watching Shirlene attempt to take care of the kids when she knows nothing about taking care of anyone but herself. It is fun watching her find the family she had been wishing for.

Catch Me a Cowboy is the 3rd book in Katie Lane’s Deep in the Heart of Texas series. IMHO this book is right up there with the first book in the series Cowboy Crazy as a great story. There’s a bit more drama than the first two books which were basically focused on the relationships between the main characters, twin sisters Hope and Faith and their future husbands Colt and Slate. Along with a romance between their BFF the recently widowed Shirleen and Bubba or Billy Cates it also involves Shirleen coming to grips with parts of her personality and life she had denied, her former marriage and the fate of four lovable orphans. Plus Bubba has a dark secret that it would seem nearly impossible to overcome to allow him and Shirleen to have their happily ever after once it is revealed. So in some regards this story has some darker moments than the previous books. Not to worry though there’s plenty of romance a little bit of sexy and a whole lot of laughs as the zany citizens of Bramble Texas take it upon themselves to insert themselves with the best of if misguided intentions into Shirleen’s life. When I first met the Shirleen character in Cowboy Crazy I really couldn’t decide whether I liked he or not. I liked her personality but I struggled with the idea that being married to a man 25 years her senior who happened to be the wealthiest man in Bramble and the fact she seemed very materialistic she was basically a gold digger who married for money. But the more her character appeared in Faith and Hope’s stories the more I really came to like Shirleen regardless of why she married her husband Lyle. Bubba or Billy Cates was a character talked about but not seen until this story. He’d been portrayed as a classic redneck. But oh, Bubba is so much more than the good ole boy he wants people to think he is. To be honest it took me a long time to warm to his character because of the scheme he was involved in and the fact that even though he was feeling guilty about it he wasn’t willing to do anything to put an end to it. Eventually Bubba as he comes to fall in love with Shirleen and the 4 orphans she’s fostering redeems himself. Hope and Faith have only small roles in this story but their characters stay true to form. Faith is the caring, quiet voice of reason and Hope is the faithful friend who isn't afraid to challenge Shirleen. Also the story takes place about a year after Hope’s book so we get to see both her’s and Faith’s babies. Another truly entertaining story.

It’s been a few years since I read some of the books in this series and I forgot how much I loved the town of Bramble! Shirlene and Bubba are a match made in trailer park heaven, and even though that isn’t really who they are, it really is who they are, as they are most comfortable in their times when they are together there. Confusing, I know, but, the connection and happiness they experience, together and apart, at the trailer park really defines who they are in their heart and soul. Little bit of a slow start to get into the story, but once I as there, I was 100% there and couldn’t put it down. Have tissues ready for that implosion you know will happen, the aftershocks reverberate for a bit before we get a ever sweet HEA!

Not just DNF, but Could Not Finish. This is not just a light hearted, airy romance; this is the first cowboy romance I've read that was so damn silly and stupid it felt insulting. I made it to Chapter 13, about a 100 pages in, but between the chainsaw wielding "midget," Darlene being hog tied by some kids, and her drowning in the lake fishing with Bubba - I couldn't take any more. Not to mention, this town is full of dumb-dumbs like Gene who don't know the difference between a music record and a criminal record. Good Lord, this book is God awful.

This book starts out kind of funny with Shirlene being attacked in her trailer and trying to figure out what happened. When Bubba, her next door neighbor, comes out to help her. Shirlene thinks Bubba/Billy is a redneck and Billy thinks Shirlene is a gold digger. The more Billy gets to know Shirlene the more he realizes he was wrong about her. Shirlene may have lost everything, but she still has the trailer she grew up in and now four kids to help. Shirlene kept a positive attitude no matter what was thrown her way. This book was really good!

Wow this book was really good! It is so much like a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book. Unlike the first two books in series this one has the same type southern charming ass of a hero as many SEP books. Bubba/Billy, pretends to be a stupid country bumpkin but he is NOT and he thinks Shirlene heroine, is a golddigger (as her late husband was 25 yrs older than she was) but she is NOT.
So good! Lots of banter and kids and animals and great story with loveable characters that show lots of personal growth to get to the HEA.

An interesting story about a widow and a cowboy who thinks she is a gold digger. How the cowboy got to know the widow and slowly fall in love with her. I love this story because when the cowboy know that he love the woman he propose her in front all the people in the town.

The town folks really a busy body always try to take everything in their hand. But its was a good town with a golden heart people.

Shirlene gets her day in the sun, but first there are some thunder storms. Shirlene unexpectedly loses her husband and can't seem to stand on her own two feet. From rags to riches back to rags, Shirlene is putting on a good front for the small town of Bramble who of course want to meddle with her life. Throw in the hot neighbor Bubba (who isn't what he seems) and four misfit kids, and you have a funny topsy-turvy story!

He’s an A**! She’s down on her luck and he’s the only person who knows it. He’s so rude to her when he’s pretending to be her red neck neighbor and an even bigger jerk when he’s the bank president. He thinks she’s trash because she married and older man. I made it to chapter 19 but I can’t go any further. I don’t want her to be with him. The book seems to be mostly him insulting her and laughing at her misfortune.

This a fun, romantic story with lots of Texas humor and good looking cowboys. Unfortunately one of the red necks from East Texas is not what he seems. Can our lovable Shirlene Dalton discover the true side before it’s too late? Cute book.
