Jake is a hardnosed police detective still in the closet but living a gay lifestyle. He won't risk revealing his preferences down at the precinct where he works. But how can he find a new lover now that he's broken it off with his old one?
Ross is the hotshot DA that Jake has never been able to get along with. They're supposed to be on the same team, but every time they interact, Jake ends up pissed off and shouting. Still, Jake can't help notice how dark and sexy the counselor is, how badly he wants to touch him.
One rainy night, Ross puts aside their differences and offers Jake a ride. Everything changes...
Eden Cole has been creating stories in her head since she was a small child. Love and romance, sensual pleasures find their voice in her erotic stories of romance. Fantasy, paranormal and science fiction are her favorite genres to write in.
This felt like the Mona Lisa done in Color by numbers. It had all the right ingredients: Muscular, handsome and slightly aggressive guys - check. Fighting for dominance and unexpected surrender - check. Overwhelming lust followed by reluctant yet irresistible emotional attachment, check and check. Nevertheless, there was no chemistry whatsoever between the guys, the sex scenes (though making out the major part of the story) were clinically cold and there was the eternal big question written all over it - plot? what plot? A promising premise falling utterly short for me.
Re-read June 2016. First read 2012. Why this was on my favorites shelf? I have no memory. This was pretty good, a short read, but no where NEAR where it should be to be a favorite.
Enemies to lovers, lawyer/cop. Good sex, weird relationship. *shrugs*
PNP; two fairly anonymous characters having join the dots sex. With a little macho posturing to show the cop has a giant chip on his shoulder to go with his twitching cock. The other is big, big and er a good man apparently.
There is so little development to the story the men could have any jobs. The lovelorn friend/ex thrown in was unnecessary and actually gave an unpleasant impression. What weak characterisation there was wasn't endearing, chemistry was non-existent.
I agree with other readers - the story should have been a full book. It ended way to soon. I didn't have my fill with characters, their relationship and everything else. DA and a cop. I feel sorry for men in their position. Because I don't think it is fair that they should hide who they are from the world. For me to love a person of the same sex looks natural. I don't understand why other people feel against it. I want to live in a world where it doesn't matter.
This story deserves much higher rating! Both MCs are sexy and likeable, the writing's very good and I'd really like to read more about Jake and Ross! Great short story!
This is more of a 2.5 for me. I found it hard to sympathize with either MC. Jake I just wanted to smack and Ross came off as nothing but an arrogant asshole with control issues. Maybe if the story had been longer, the characters could have evened out some.
I love enemies to lovers kinds of stories, but Jake's treatment of his BFF and ex Sam, and then Ross's over-the-top top attitude with Jake, kind of left me feeling cold.
This was okay, good most of the time, but needed to be a bit longer. I like a short read, so I'm not saying it needed to be a full length novel, but I think there was key dialogue missing here that would have made this a much more complete story. The main characters barely had a full conversation but this wasn't just about sex. This is a 2.5-3 stars, but could have been a 4 stars with a little more dialogue to show a growing and believable relationship.
I liked this story a lot. Only one complaint. I wish the author would have made it a full novel. I hope that Ms. Cole considers writing another about these guys so that we can continue to know how everything works out for them.
A nice bit of smut... Could have done with a bit more story so we get to know and understand the characters better. As it is, they are not very likeable. But since most of this was sex scenes and they were hot, I still enjoyed it.
Pure sex appeal. Jake & Ross two hot, strong alpha males with the right amount of plot. Short read, WAY too short! My first time reading Eden Cole, it won't be my last.
The only reason for why this novella isn't getting five stars is because it should have been a novel! Series of novels, in fact. I loved Jake and Ross and their relationship was perfect.
I liked this. It was a good short story that gave us some good understanding of the characters overall. I would definitely prefer a little more, though. It ended just when it was getting good.
