A "clean" love story set in Scotland in the early 1900's. The story was okay, nothing extraordinary. I did find the editing style to feel patronizing. For example, it uses parentheses to give the pronunciation of the main character's name after already mentioning her name several times. Either do it at first or not at all is what I say. Also, many of the traditional Scottish foods they eat in the book are followed by a detailed description in parentheses. To me, that detracted from the flow of the story. I prefer a glossary of pronunciations and definitions for those who feel they need to know more. Let the reader stay "in the story" more without having extra information that isn't critical to the plot.

I picked this up when I saw the current installment on the "new release" shelf at the library with no expectations and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read the next one. Because it is such a short novel, there wasn't as much room for character development and description that I would have enjoyed, but the upside of this was that the story developed quickly.

And who doesn't love a love story set in Scotland?
