Breathtaking retro-futurist art and excellent writing, especially in The Distant Star, the last of the four volumes reprinted in this book. Every fan of European comics or SF comics should try to find this book. The only annoyance is that the translation of volume four is inconsistent with that of volumes one to three; the hero’s name changes from Rocco to Roco.

Chester Gould and Herge doing Flash Gordon makes for something really special, it's visually in a league of its own, but while the universe and art is wonderful the characters and writing are not. There must be some nuance of European storytelling that is impossible to recreate in English, as many BDs suffer from poor dialogue.

Beautiful artwork--lots of fun to read. Like reading an "adult" version of Tintin/ sci fi.
