Synopsis from Goodreads: After losing everything, Allen has a chance to gain it all back. Until a haunting from his family's past resurfaces with the renovation of his downtown building. Will the ghost hunters, Hector and Marcos, learn the truth in time to solve the haunting and finally put the dead to rest?
My Thoughts: These characters are the same as those in Amador Lockdown, a full-length novel that Coral released in 2011. Ghosthunters, they are always seeking out the truth behind the legends of the ghosts in their area. This short fills in more information about their work and the general state of the paranormal around the El Paso area. Recommended that you read this and Devil of a Ghost Tour before reading Amador Lockdown in order to get the full benefit of that story. Deft interweaving of past and present give this story a great pace; highly engrossing.
Allen Harris, upon the refurbishment of his family's building, begins to become haunted by ghosts which may, or may not, have inhabited the building in a previous era. Will the ghost hunters assigned to find out more succeed in their mission, or, fail to get to the truth?
KEY TO A HAUNTING, by Coral Russell, is a suspense story which moves at an agreeable pace, with attention to detail which is appropriate to, and does not slow down, the story's flow. It is expressive when necessary, without descending into supernatural mumbo jumbo, and possesses an ethereal atmosphere which is subtle in its execution.
The opening short story was a poignant and interesting one, immediately bringing to mind the true story of the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Company Factory, which the author references at the end and writes that the story is written in rememembrance of that tragedy. In Coral's version we are given characters in the both the future and the past with which to idenitify and relate to as individuals.
There is also an excerpt from Devil of A Ghost Tour included, which also has the same ghost hunters who looked into the haunting of the first story.
