Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 combined. Bonus material - the beginning of Part 5 (Volume 2).
Tyler falls hard and fast for Susie, a confident, voluptuous co-ed with a strong resistance to commitment.
Determined to make her his, he becomes obsessed with learning her secrets. Why does her house have so many locked doors? Where does she go on her mysterious trips? What's the source of her seemingly endless supply of money?
First let me just say this post will be used and posted for Safe With Me part 1 through 4. When I received the book I received all 4 volumes together so for me it read like a novel.
I enjoyed the book. In the beginning I have to admit, I wasn't sure where the story was taking me and the more I read I became attached to it. While reading I felt maybe it could be a 3 STAR read but I quickly changed my mind as the progress of the book became evident. The story is told in a narrative aspect of Tyler which is kind of new to me. Which your use to reading it from a female view or both. But reading from a guy's aspect wasn't bad either. At times you felt Tyler's vulnerability and uncertainty.
Tyler is 26 and in college. One day he meets Suzzie who is 25 and is also in college with Tyler. Tyler meets Suzzie and is immediately attracted to her, while having a conversation and a study session it quickly became more by the end of the evening. After this encounter Suzzie immediately puts her guard up towards Tyler letting him know that she doesn't do boyfriends. The days that follows Suzzie and Tyler's encounters, it's clear Suzzie is secretive and doesn't reveals much about herself, which drives Tyler crazy as he wants a relationship with Suzzie. I have to say Suzzie personally drove me nuts with her secrets, she was like Fort Knox, she would not crack to reveal anything about herself. Tyler gets the help of Joan, Suzzie's best friend/more-ish (hehehe) to try and get closer to Suzzie. Towards the end I think all of Suzzie's friends are trying to figure out what she is hiding. Throughout the book I was rooting for Tyler he is so sweet and sexy from his description.
The book reads much better than my explanation. I also want to say the sex scenes got better and crazier along the way of reading the book. I literally felt my electrical reading device steaming. It was a good read for me and I look forward to book 5.
Storyline: FAIR to GOOD Intimacy: GOOD Enjoyment: FAIR
I love the new adult genre mainly because of the explicit sex, but the heroine (anti-heroine) in Safe With Me was just way too skanky for me to finish the book. I couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept that a guy as hot as Tyler Campbell is described to be, would fall crazy in love with a chick who has slept with many of his friends/acquaintances, who has no regrets for seducing the boyfriends of her own friends, and who lies to him throughout their relationship about who she is and what she really does for a living. Yep...tune in to the XXXcite channel and look for a voluptuous blonde who naively thinks she is incognito in a dark wig.
If you don't mind the skankiness of the leading lady, then by all means read this book - if for nothing better than to enjoy the intelligent, long-haired, hard-bodied, well-hung, half-Indian hottie of a hero!
OK, I technically haven't read this book. I've read parts 1-4 separately, and I'm assuming Ms. Richmond didn't make any significant changes when publishing the first four parts as volume 1.
Of all the female authors I've read, Ms. Richmond has done the best job of capturing a man's feelings about meeting a woman for the first time. And, since the story is told from Tyler's perspective for the most part, I was really able to get into the story. There is a lot of internal dialog as well, which usually is a problem for me, but in this book, it's used appropriately to help provide part of the back story and let the reader know how the characters feel.
Susie is a very mysterious woman, and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of part 5 so I can find out the next piece of the puzzle.
{edit}OK, I have read the excerpt from part 5 that's included in Volume 1 now. I really can't wait for the rest of this story now. Ms. Richmond made an unexpected twist in the story at the beginning of part 5.
I liked this story a lot and would read it again. I could not put it down and I couldn't stop thinking about it when I wasn't reading. It enveloped me. I loved how much dialogue there was between the two. I thought the story was well written. It was a Hot & Steamy read. Several things bothered me though. Tyler was a stud in the bedroom but was such a pansy out of the bedroom. Through out the whole book she was so worried about telling her secret to Tyler, then when he finds out she doesn't understand why he is mad. I really wanted him to get ngry and upset with Susie when he found out about her secret. To me, after finding out about all of her friends being with her in a sexual way I thought what a slut. Not because of her "jobs" but because she did things with every man & woman she knew. But who am I to say anything about that because I guess without all of that there wouldn't be a story to read. Now, I can't wait for the 8th Part.
