Spoiler Ahead This is book 4 in the "Midnight Matings " series. After drinking the spiked champagne that induced mating Shea finds himself being tug by two young vampires Calin Davidson and Dustin Pearson who were kicked out of their coven because they are gay when they mate him against his will they have no choice but to go with it. Shea Mayer is angry that two vampires claimed him against his will it's been a week since the claiming and the only thing he wants is to have sex once a day as required and noting more. So while visiting Dustin's room he tells him that they need blood they were starving that's when Shea snapped out of his anger and realized that he was killing his mate. This was a fun playful book Calin and Dustin weren't boring. This book not only did it have some hot sex scenes it also had some violence Shea got mean when his mates were kidnapped turns out herbivores can get mean and the local Coven leader found out. This was a pretty good book that I wished was longer. They also found out that because Shea doesn't eat meat he lacks protein and because they are feeding from him they got blood poison although he tried to get them more blood from the coven leader who didn't want to get it to him. This book was well written like the rest of the books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

had a couple interesting moments at the end but mostly just boring sex and boring shopping and lots and lots of crying. I hope the next in the series is better because this series is getting boring

2012 Review:

Wow. So not used to this anymore but we’re right back in stupid-land, with a narrator who’s childish and self-centred (sure, he’s initially justified but then he just turns into rude-and-sulk central) and an author who lacks logical skills and a grasp of language (stop using millennia as singular!).

Really, how does this author manage to always make her narrators sound like clichéd super-mega-bitchy queens, even when they’re supposed to be the big and tough kind? “Whatever” and “puh-leeze” and groaning eye-rolls… They’re freakin’ swishy. Now, nothing’s wrong with swishy but, as I said, it’s everyone with her, and usually that’s awfully incongruous with what she is trying to convey. And she’s always explaining her (already feeble) jokes. >.>; Jeez, now I want to roll my eyes too.

Not even going into the messed-up science of how herbivores and protein-intake and whatnot work.

This felt a really, really brief book, too. I guess I just got used to longer stories during the past few weeks, because the length if this wasn’t actually all that unusual. Huh.

I liked the story, but I didn't like that we only saw one point of view. It would have been nice to know what the other two characters were thinking through out the book. The beginning was a little much for me, but when you continue on it is an important part of the story. I plan on continuing to read the rest of the series.

What I liked about this book was that we got to see a less often written about shifter (a herbivore) mated to two vampires. That gave a nice contrast which was explored well and led to a few interesting twists.

The idea of the forced matings didn't work any better here than in the stories I've read so far, and the fact we only get to see one character's point of view took away a little of my enjoyment. But the characters were interesting and cute, the way they got together (forced in more ways than one) different from the rest of the book and there were a few nice twists and turns.

You will probably like this book if you like shifter and vampire stories and want to find out what some of the more unusual types might get up to. This is an entertaining read, once you manage to suspend your disbelief around the forced mating idea.

I really should have known this book was going to suck when in the first sentence, on the first page of the novel there was a grammatical error but silly me I decided to read on…
Needless to say, this book was utter b******t and it took sheer determination and continuous eye rolling to get to the end of this book. I honestly wouldn't have minded that there wasn't much of an overall plot if at least, the writing was good and the humour was well timed and actually funny but this book really had none of that and nothing else going for it, for that matter. Crappy jokes get less funny and even crappier the more you explain them, just in case you don’t know Ms Flynn. The sentence structure was all over the place and just plain boring - too often I found myself rephrasing sentences and reconstructing entirely new ones in my head to improve the nonsensical drivel on the page to keep myself awake and motivated enough to keep reading. The grammar mistakes were just embarrassing. If I were reading a story by a fourteen year old on wattpad which had the same appalling mistakes and amateur writing skills, I would only have myself to blame for expecting a better quality of writing, but from a published writer...come on! At this point she should know that millennia is plural not singular. And I know this is a matter of whether you speak U.S English or U.K English but seeing the phrase “an herbivore” (as opposed to a herbivore) repeatedly was very irritating.
The main character, Shea was a 2 dimensional egotistical asshole. Even though a first person narrative is supposed to make us identify with the character I actually hated him. I get the she was trying to make his mates Dustin and Calin cute but she went a step too far and made them - especially Calin - too childlike so the sex scenes were actually quite gross. There is so much more I could say about this book (mostly only negatives) but to wrap up this review, this is a perfect example of Murphy's Law: anything that can go wrong will go wrong. And in this situation it really went wrong.

When I saw this one was a menage I assumed it would end up being more like erotica and I was right. While the sex was hot it also took up a large amount of the book which kind of sucked. Heh. Vampires. Suck. *ahem* Sorry. Okay, so this author went ahead and solved the question, at least for this case, of what happened with the non-voluntary matings that the other books mentioned but didn't go any more detailed with. It was nice to have an explanation of why a good portion of the paranormals there kinda lost their minds after the drink.

Since the only other menages (other than one) that I've read are m/f/m they've been the "there are three of us but the men don't touch each other" types which truthfully seem kinda goofy but whatever. So it was nice to read one that all were participants. I thought the relationships between them were very well done and there wasn't that feeling of it never happening in the real world that a lot of menages give me. I mean other than the weird paranormal stuff, of course.

Now, like I said there was a LOT of sex. Like too much. So you might be wondering why it got 3 stars. Because the plot was really good. I found it interesting. From the forced mating and how they overcame it to the jerk Atlanta vampire leader. Everything came to an exciting and bloody end. My favorite quote came from that part: "I smacked him in the head with his own arm to get him back to reality." C'mon people. Don't mess with an ancient buck's mates! Hehehe I'd say it's worth the read even if probably half of it is sex. If it wasn't for that it would have gotten 4 or maybe even 5 stars. I liked the characters, even the others like the ones living in the house and elder Rice. Worth the read for the fun of it.

Felching What?

Well I learned something new today. And WOW! Done nicely. I'm not a PNR girl but this book slammed the brakes on that. I was given this book for a challenge. Mind you this is my first book in the series. Clearly can be read as a standalone.

I notice on others review that this felching took place. Made me think of belching. I didn't figure out what the actual sex act was until after completing the book.

My only issue was that the beginning felt rushed compared to the rest of the story.

Great for beginner/experimenting w/PNR. Quick and easy read.

WTF? First of all, it's really hard to get into the sex scenes when 2 of the characters act like brothers 99% of the time. Awkward much? The only reason I was able to finish this book was sheer willpower. It wasn't even that the plot was bad or anything the book was just boring!

Not sure why I continue to read this series...
The only author of this series I remotely like is Stormy Glenn and even then she's has some books I can't stand.
I've read 5 of Joyee Flynn's books so far and she leaves a lot to be desired in her writting.

The series as a whole has an interesting concept but so far the follow throughs have fallen short. They're not horrible but definitely not something I would read again or suggest to a friend.

Now for this book I am not a ménage kinda gal so this certainly wasn't my cup of tea, but I have to read it in order cause I have a bit of ocd.
So, the whole crying over everything was really annoying. Also it kinda dragged for me I had a really hard time connecting with the characters and caring about what happened to them.

I only finished this by sheer willpower.

These types are my purse popcorn. I pull them up if I am at the doctor riding a bus or just doing stuff. I expect a lack of development and poor editing with a simple plot.
I like them because I do not have to think. I will not become immersed, It will not annoy me to stop reading if it is my turn. If I lose them I will not cry. 2.5/5

Oh my! Embarrassed how many of this series I bought, way back when. Naive, optimistic me saw potential in the series premise, then got caught up in the in morbid fascination at just how bad the books are.

They are bad.

This is one coupling that is one hot mess from the get go. When you live forever picking a mate is some serious business. This story picks up at the dinner where the elders of the paranormal community have sprung on all unexpected attendees that you have to mate or die. Normally rational people are doing irrational things and this is what makes this book so entertaining.

Being one of the oldest living paranormals makes Shea pretty much immune to everything except two young vampires treating him more like an object to be fought over and not a person. His anger over the forced mating is understandable but in all actuality what is done is done and Shea has no choice in the matter.

Calin and Dustin are vampires who only attended the paranormal gathering in hopes of finding new coven after being forced out of their old one for being gay. At first I felt these two were insensitive and had little regard for their actions but as I read I got a better understanding of what these two men had gone through. They’re not bad guys just victims like all other paranormals being forced to mate.

This threesome has their struggles at first but once a heartfelt plea by Calin is made, things get set on a different path, one of forgiveness. Reading how these men interacted was heartwarming and tender. It was like all the pieces of a puzzle that just fit.

The conflict in this story was a slow build piece by piece until it comes to a head. As the reader, I knew what was going to happen but to the characters in the book it was shocking. I really liked how when the attack came the resolution was swift and decisive.

Ms. Flynn’s imagination is one of wonder and the sex scenes she writes in this book are steamy. A little spanking, sex toys, and dirty talk always help a book move right along and this story was definitely a page turner. I’m always a little skeptical when it comes to ménage love stories but she wrote a love story between three men who felt as if not being a trio wasn’t an option.

As a follower of the Midnight Matings series, it's a little frustrating that the first few pages are just rereading what is in all the other books; the "why" of the forced matings. But for folks who haven't read the previous installments, that is also what makes the series so good. You do not have to read every book in this series to know what is going on in this crazy world.

If you’re looking for an erotic love story where the characters come full circle from hate to love, then this is a must read.

Ok, so this one started out a bit disturbing for me.

First, let me go back to the whole concept of these books. All these paranormals are at the UPAC Conference where the elders trick them into drinking a magic drink, and giving them 24 hours to find a mate outside their own species to re populate the species, or something like that. SO, let me just say, since all these books are m/m or m/m/m, that whole re population plan seems a bit hinky to begin with, but what do I know. They are not allowed to leave the conference until they are mated, and have mating seals on their bodies. If they don't mate in 24 hours they go feral.

So hear is where I am finding these books a bit disturbing, you have all these paranormals running around and basically mate raping other paranormals. The first couple books in the series the two people sat and talked and agreed to mate, but in this one Shea (a 4000 year old deer shifter) is basically mate raped (no sex) but mated by two vampires against hid will. He goes to an elder to complain about being forced, and the elder basically says "Suck it up buttercup" Okie Dokie then...

Oh course he is really pissed off, and the two vampires are really sorry, but he isn't forgiving them, which leads to the next part of this disturbing story. One of the rules to these mating are that they have to have sex every 24 hours until the next leap year conference, so four years. Sex every day for the next four years??!! I like sex as much as the next person, but man that's a lot of sex especially since Shea has two mates. So basically because of this rule, Shea has cold emotionless sex with the two vampires, basically treating them like whores. I didn't like it, in fact it made me dislike Shea more then the two vampires, because the drink they were given made their fangs come out a attack Shea.

In any case we get past all that and the book turns into a really sweet (with dirty parts) read, and I ended up really liking all involved...

At the beginning I loved this book, Shea's character was so correct, I would have done the same, until the part where he let's Calin feed from him for the first time, he makes a 180, and everything is honey & sugar, Calin and Dustin are so childish, more then 42 the act like 4.2, I mostly enjoyed Shea, the plot from the puritans coven is shoved aside and is just... there, another thing that bugged me is that supposedly Calin & Dustin had to claim each other but that never happens.

I kind of understand that Shea being an herbivore isn't supposedly as dominant as other shifters, and even so i found him more dominant than other "tops" in the series, I just found a little unbelievable that being so easily for him to tear apart the baddies he couldn't handle two brats trying to mate him, still Joyee tries to asses the matter saying that it was the surprise and that Calin & Dustin tackled him at the same time, so i said ok, i buy it.

overall from the new trilogy this is the one I enjoyed the most.

Such a fun series! There are currently 20 books in the series, each book is written by either Joyee Flynn, Gabrielle Evans or Stormy Glenn. They could keep writing more as long as they continue creating interesting characters who shift into all kinds of wonderful and different animals/mythical beings and coming up with unique stories full of romance, crazy drama, angst and let's not forget the very hot sex!

You don't have to read them in order, very rarely are other characters mentioned, but each story is very different and engaging and together they make for a fun few weeks of entertainment.

There is a spin-off series by Joyee Flynn with 8 books out so far called "Unmated by Midnight." I have not read those yet but they are on my to-be-read list next.

This is a light read. I would say "fluffy" but there is a part of the book that isn't real "fluffy". Still this is very typical of the other books in the series. The story isn't complex. I would have enjoyed more POV to the story. Having it in first person leaves out a lot more of the story. I thought the characters cute and fun. The three work out the problems in their relationship quickly and a little too easily. This is the kind of book I can enjoy when stressed and just want something that I know will be an HEA and easily read.

I've been reading these out of order. Out of Joyee's books with their 1st person POV (why are they all like that? It's not the best POV for stories like these!), this one is my favorite. Shea, unlike some of the other characters she picked to carry her stories, wasn't too bad. The mates were immature as I saw other reviewer mentioned. Though they explained their sheltered life in their prior coven and it made a bit more sense to me. Rating is more like 2.5, but because it wasn't as bad as some of the others, I put 3.

Apart from the incredibly dramatic moment with both vampires dying from blood poisoning and Shea crying like a baby...this was fun and enjoyable. There is a lot I would change in terms of writing but this time the story and the characters almost actually eclipsed those errors. The vampires started a little over the top but turned out very cute and fun to read. Shea was my favourite though...how can you not like a four thousand alpha shifter who's practically indestructible?

The elders of UPAC engineer a night where shifters and other paranormals must mate with a different species. Dustin and Calin claim Shea without asking. When he realizes that it can't be undone, Shea gets angry but allows them to come home with him. After Shea cools down, he starts to fall for his mates as much as they fell for him. Two close brushes with death for Dustin and Calin bring them even closer. Shea had claimed them in the deer way after the first brush with death.

I am never sure about a Joyee Flynn book. Many of them are easy, slightly over-aught, but they can be a fan bite in between more serious reads. This one however suffers from one of the faults I often find: far far to overly dramatic. Unnecessary and un-realistic plot twists, together with a set of ridiculously innocent-porn actors made it difficult for me to go with the flow in this one.

I liked this story. I liked that it involved a type of shifter we haven't seen very often, a herbivore. I liked that the two vamps that claimed him loved each other already. I liked the sweetness of the story.
I didn't like the one sided point if view. I would have liked hearing from the other two mates also. I didn't like how predictable it was.
It was a fun story!

More of a 3.5 read for me.

Can I say that Felching scene was flipping hot!!

I wish that there were dual POV's. This one was a pretty typical Siren book. Lots of sex with some twisty turns in the plot.
Personally I like the odd mating pairs. It's alway fun to see what gets pair up to what next.
