Lux Swithin wakes up in a hotel room that she has no memory of falling asleep in. Alone, disorientated and far from home Lux fears the darkness. She fears the man who will inevitably return for her.

Unaware of the dark history that led to her capture, Lux is equally oblivious to the various groups that are desperately trying to track her down. The Luminita have only her best interests at heart and are sworn to protect her but others have a more sinister agenda. As Lux attempts to escape her fate, the Luminita use their own unique skills to try and protect her. But whilst some unsavoury characters are easily dealt with, there is a grotesque evil that seems unstoppable. It stalks Lux with a twisted mind, determined to make her pay for ancient crimes.

This novel was a captivating story with interesting characters and mysterious powers. Anyone who likes thrillers with a paranormal twist would enjoy this book. Lux Swithin wakes up scared and alone in a dark hotel room and she has no idea how she ended up there. Lux has special powers and there are sinister forces at play.

I thought the dialogue was witty and entertaining. I connected with all the characters. I really loved Lex and the relationship between her and her sexy captor, Feardorcha. He's a killer but such a teddy bear to her. Even when he tackles her to the ground when she's trying to escape, he doesn't use all his weight, helps her up, caresses her face, and asks her if she is okay. And later...their kiss...oh wow! I love him! The characters just drew me into the scene and made the book come to life. But I also really loved Roxy and her friends, Grey and Rabbit. Roxy had me cracking up when she set the toilets on fire at school when she was 13 and was trying to learn her new power. Not that it was funny, but that's the kind of luck I'd have too. LOL. Roxy is just a wonderful character. I just loved her so much. Roxy, Grey, and Rabbit are all part of an ancient group called the Luminita. (Lux is too) And they are hot on the trail of Lux's captor, hoping to rescue her.

If you're like me and love reading a great suspense thriller, then this is the book for you. Captive is beautifully written, and simply breathtaking. The editing is flawless and the flow and pace are just perfect. What can I say? It's definitely a page turner that will keep you up all hours of the night so that you can know what happens. I LOVE the paranormal elements and the twists Williams put into this story. I don't want to give away any spoilers here but I really think that's what makes this story so different and unique from others.

I can't wait to get the sequel to this series! Definitely worth 5 stars without a doubt!

There is a lot to like about this book. The language is crisp and clear, the grammar is impeccable, the story moves along at a good pace, the plot lines converge at the right time, there is a little edgy romance and the violence isn't too over the top.

The problem for me is the story feels well crafted as opposed to well written. It does all the right things but I don't sense anything new or original, rather it feels like a composite of other thrillers. Certainly a good read and at a bargain price, well worth the money. But I would like the author to find her own voice. I think she has the talent.

Sarah Williams describes a world much like our own with characters who are so much more than human. While some characters and scenes were of a darker nature, others made me laugh out loud. The ending was not at all what I expected, and I absolutely loved it!

Captive is well written and fast paced. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book to read.
