Life in the ghetto produces some of the most provocative character types known to man. A young kid afflicted from birth, misguided, beaten, and drugged through life on his face. Nobody ever loved him. Not in this life did he expect to get a break. Born into the wrong family and situated around negative circumstances. He had two options: Survive or perish
Eleven year old Rodney Adams did not ask to be born into a fatherless home with a drug dependent abusive mother, who cared more about her multiple sex partners than washing her son's clothes and making sure he had something to eat before going off to school.
Being teased at school meant Rodney had no friends and looked to do odd jobs for neighbors to buy food.
While playing with his stray dog Bam he watches the activity in the local park. Not quite understanding what is going on, Rodney makes a move to the boy who everybody seems to respect, Pookie, a young local hustler. Rodney gets caught up in the neighborhood violence and serves four years in a detention center where he meets his first real friend Dooski, who schools Rodney on street ethics. On his return to the streets Rodney is not the same naive boy that his mama dukes could push around. He is callous, cunning, and calculating; he doesn't speak too much but has much going on in his murderous mind!
What I liked about this story is the development of the character Rodney. This author did a good job with Rodney's personality which is very dark with borderline crazy tendencies, Rodney knew exactly what he wanted and used anyone to get it. I also liked Ebony who had a lot of spunk and would not let anyone intimidate her.
The editing and inconsistencies in this story could not be over looked and this tarnished an otherwise decent story. With a professional editor, together with Rasheed's skill on penning interesting characters I expect a smoother transition within the pages of his next book.

My grandmother always told me “You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself”. The people in Rodney’s neighborhood called him “Savage” because of his poor appearance, but unknowingly those same people turned him into the Fierce, Violent and Uncontrollable force or simply put the Young Savage he would become.
Young Savage is a gripping tale of a young man’s survival in a world where only the strong survive. With no real male guidance and a mother chasing her next fix while her revolving door of men came and went, Rodney was left to fend for himself. His only real companion was his dog Bam, another stray left alone in the world. His days are filled with hopeless dreams and hungry nights.
Rodney while playing in the park notices the action of the local hustler and ends up befriending the leader, Pookie, sending Rodney on journey he will never forget. I loved Rodney’s character because despite everything he was still loyal to his mother. There were a few grammatical and editorial errors that did take away from the story slightly, but overall I give this 4 stars. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast paced and highly addictive read.

Young Savage by Rasheed Carter Reviewed by: Kisha Green 3 Stars
In the debut novel YOUNG SAVAGE by Rasheed Carter readers will be introduced to a young child Rodney who is the product of s single mother drug addict and her priorities are on everything BUT being a mother to young Rodney. He is often left to take care of himself.
As results he gets into some trouble and is sent to a youth detention center where he finally makes a real friend and is educated on street life as well as survival, Rodney reemerges a new person.
YOUNG SAVAGE tells the ever so familiar story of your young male who is a product of his environment and all though he wants better, he also lives by the code of the survival of the fittest. I enjoyed growing up with Rodney perse because of the authors ability to truly take you into the main characters daily life so definite kudos for character development.
There were many emotions filled within these pages one definitely was sympathy for Rodney because he didn’t have any options it was him against the world (his mom) but that what made me keep reading because I wanted things to get better.
YOUNG SAVAGE was a good book but with a professional edit job this story would have been a much smoother read but nonetheless indeed a story of hope. I do look forward to reading future works from Rasheed Carter because from this debut it is clear this writer has the talent, so I do look forward to seeing this writer’s growth.
Wow I just finished this book and all I can say is Rasheed put it down. This booked grabbed me from page 1. The things that Rodney went through as a young child made you want to see what type of teenager/young man he would turn out to be. When the alter ego Savage appeared watch out. I liked how the book developed the relationship between the 3woman in his life and despite how his mother treated him as a young boy (made you hate her) he stilled carried nothing but love in his heart for her. I also like how he studied everyine and his surrounding before he made any moves. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the very near future.
GREAT book! Reshaeed takes you on a journey thru the life of Young Savage A.K.A Rodney which is the main character. Even though he was beaten and abused by his mother who was a crackhead and a alcoholic, Rodney still managed starting at the age of 10 to make a name for him self... If you are looking for a hard core killing, ganster drug dealer to rockstar type of book, this is the book. It's Smooth...... A GREAT READ"! So good I felt compelled to add my 2 cents. Ive read alot of books, and Young Savage is an incredibly good read...
First, I would just like to say that this is my first book by this author and I was not disappointed!! Rasheed you are skilled with your words. It goes deep!! I wish Amazon would let us use 1/2 points on the rating scale so that I could give this book 4 1/2 stars...I say 4 1/2 stars because I could not overlook the editing errors in this book, however, that was my only issue.
I loved the way Rodney's character was developed. He was a strong main character and showed a lot of strength for a person at such a young age. I loved his transition from a boy to a young man. I found myself getting lost in the pages many times..
Only thing I was mad about was he didn't choose Ebony LOL!!!
"Young Savage" By Rasheed is the story of a young boy,Rodney, who was born into a life of misguidance and neglect. With an alcoholic mother who does nothing to provide for her son, Rodney dreams of the day he can provide for himself. After a chance meeting, Rodney (or Young Savage as they call him) is on a mission to prove that he can have whatever he wants no matter the consequences. I give it 4.5 stars.A story of greed, lies, and deceit, " Young Savage" is sure to keep you on your toes wondering what happens next.
i thought it was a great storyline about rodney and his janet his mother and her addiction to drugs and how he had to turn to tghe streretas to grown up and how he did a lot of robbing and sex, selling drugs and etc.this is the author first book so he did had grammar uasge errors, run on sentences and he really did give his best with writing this story and i could have felt the mother character and it was great.so i gave this book 5 stars because he is new and he is has a story to tell and i will be waiting on his next book.and telling my readers friends to support him as well.
This book had you feeling so bad for Savage in the beginning but he manage to turn it around and had you rooting for him even though he was the bad guy sometimes...Nothing or Nobody got in his way when he had a plan....He looked out for those he considered real friends and did dirty those he didnt hero worship.I will definitely read part 2..I feel retaliation is coming
Young Savage was Hot! The book really took me into the world of Savage. My heart went out to the young man.He dealt with many struggles in life that many young children go through, abuse, low self esteem, and puberty. I recommend this book and I promise you will enjoy it! Thank you Rasheed, for sharing the life of Savage with me!
I did not like this book. It usually takes me a couple of days at the most to read a book. To be honest I couldn't read anymore so I stopped. I gave it 2 stars because the writer took the time to write it. It didn't do anything for me.
