I've been reading this book with my morning coffee so it's taking me forever to finish but these aren't books you read from cover-to-cover like a fictional novel anyhow. There are some interesting historical stories and tidbits about our kitty companions and ways to incorporate them into spell work. Definitely recommended to cat lovers.

Another of Dugan's lovely source books. This one happens to cover the wonder that are our feline companions. The cat as a witch's familiar has been a present theme from the Medieval to the present. Here, Dugan presents the cat as much more than a mere representation of the self.

Not a bad book at all. I definitely recommend it to cat-owners. A bonus if you're also fairly spiritual and/or like witchcraft and the occult.

The Enchanted Cat: Feline Fascinations, Spells and Magick by Ellen Dugan (who is also the author of the Legacy of Magick fiction series) is a book about cats and their connection to magick. The narrative provies information on cat mythology, folklore and history, as well as a selection of rituals involving cats.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Recommendation: As someone who has three cats, this book was a must for me and will stay in my print collection. I noted a couple of the rituals I would like to add to my practice (or at least try, depending on the cooperation of my cats) and I learned a lot about dieties related to cats and their history. This would make a wonderful gift for the cat loving witch in your life. Obviously, if you have no interest or negative feelings towards magick, this is likely not the book for you.

A good book about cat magick, though there wasn't anything I didn't know aside from the spells. I didn't take any stars off though, since this makes a good beginners book.

Usually whenever you see a "spell-type" book offered by Llewellyn Publications than you know that is truly well backed with knowledgeable writers. My only problem with the company had some freebies on their site a few years such as a quiz and a spell-a-day that that they no longer offered but instead focus on the consumerism of the trade now, which is sad. But that is neither here nor there.

Anyway I found that this this particular book was definitely a good book for those who may be interested in cats, especially if they are of any magick persuasion. It was well-organized, didn't jump all over the place, was easy to understand due to a nice conversational tone and didn't repeat itself to build up the number of pages. At the same time the author is a wonderful encourager to her followers in making their own path to suit their need while including the journal in the back with various functions for the practitioner.

Otherwise the book covers the importance of the cat in the history of magick and folklore, spells for those who may be interested, possible cat names, fun facts, deities with a really small emphasis on the gods and so much more. There are also pages that provide information on feline power animals, gems and plants, cat care for specific situations such as introducing a baby to the family, cat astrology and cat colors.

What I enjoyed the most was the fact that each chapter started off with a sketch drawing of a cat doing various kitty activities as it capture the soul of these precious animals. And the selection of various quotes throughout pertaining again to the claim that cats have made on people who want to capture their essence.

One piece of information that was wrong, though, was the part of the black panther and I don't understand why this seems to be so much of a problem that people can't research it right as I am sure it is right there on the internet. The black panther is not just a jaguar that just happens to live Indonesia. No, no, no!

Black panthers are melanistic forms of both leopards (such as Bagheera) and jaguars. The former live in Africa and Asia including Indonesia while the latter is only found in the New World. Jaguars like to swim, leopards can give or take on swimming.

All in all otherwise a pretty decent book and one that if I was a practitioner I would recommend to those who may be interested in this subject.

Ms. Dugan has been a practicing hedgewitch for almost twenty years. Her book is user-friendly and written in an entertaining, conversational tone. The Enchanted Cat is specifically tailored to anyone looking to bring a little cat magic into his or her life or to deepen your relationship with your four-footed friends. I found this book practical and enjoyable and look forward to applying some of the spell work in my own home upon returning from vacation. I highly recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like a stuffy witch read, but wants to gain great knowledge.

The Enchanted Cat discusses folklore and superstitions attached to cats. This book discusses breeds, sizes, and colouring in cats in configuration with magick. There are spells that can be done for one's cat or with a cat. It's a fun and silly book.

Bought for my sister I read through it before gifting. While containing background history on why felines are considered revered in certain cultures as well as to why many are seen/become familiars -the book didn't hold any warm fuzzies as I've come to anticipate when opening an Ellen Dugan book.

Interesting, but about what I expected: A lot of interesting folklore and some insights into the realm of modern cat familiars in the NeoPagan movement. Spells, methods of enchantment and working with becoming close with your cat.

This is a really neat book! My fiance gave it to me for Valentine's Day and I really enjoyed it, especially the information about the elemental cats and the astrological signs of your cat.
