This is a non-fiction account of the tragedy of the sinking of the Lusitania. The book was published in 1957 and at that time there were still survivors of the event for the author to interview. The only knowledge I had of this event was what I learned in school, which was not much. This book filled in a lot of the gaps and I am glad I found it among older books I had packed away. The research the author did was obvious, giving the reader a look at the more common people who were among the passengers. Also, the events are told from the eyes of the captain in submarine that sunk the ship. Recommended for those who enjoy well written history.

Reconstructed from hundreds of survivors' accounts and naval documents and with a new preface that puts to rest several theories about the cargo of the fated ship, The Last Voyage of the Lusitania chronicles one of the greatest sea tragedies of all time. Though it took only eighteen minutes for the Lusitania to sink, this event changed the course of world history by bringing America into the First World War. A new generation of readers interested in American history will welcome this updated edition of the Hoehlings' classic account of the Lusitania.

Enjoyed this book. Near the middle, (particularly after the sinking) there seems to be a long period of inaction, and the book gets a little boring there. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend this read. It blends historical fact with action and tension and paints a clear picture of the characters described and the Lusitania's last voyage.

This book brought the last voyage of the Lusitania to life...the passengers became real people and the sea itself seemed alive. I am constantly amazed by the coincidences shown us by studying history. This book was full of them...who knew that Turner captained all three of the Cunard ships (Lusitania, Mauritania, and Aquitania)...a very enjoyable, although tragic, read.

This ship went down FAST! Amazing that as many folks survived as did...and a stone's throw from Ireland, too.

First published in 1956, this is a fact based story of the Lusitania, a cruise ship sunk by a German U Boat off the coast of Ireland in 1915. Very well done. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this account.
