An excellent resource for seasonal cooking and as a recipe book for celebrating Sabbats, but not much on incorporating witchery into kitchen work or cooking.
This is not only a good reference guide for Wiccans celebrating the eight Sabbats but is also a good cook book for those who aren't with seasonal recipes that everyone can enjoy. Soraya provides the background and importance of each of the Sabbats but also focuses on the importance of good home cooked food that is the basis of any family life, Wiccan or otherwise, showing how the principles of these festivals can be applied by anyone (its all about family, friends and food...and you don't even need a cauldron!). A great reference book for Wiccans and non-Wiccans alike and I can't wait to try some of the recipes for myself, shame I didn't read this in time for my favourite Sabbat (Samhain, unsurprisingly for those who know me), but there's always next year!!
This book contains what every witch wants: recipes! Tons of it. It tells you exactly what you need for each sabbat and has correspondences on different foods and spices, which is great. Super recommendable.
There is some good info in here but I already knew much of the information listed in this book, at least when it comes to Sabbat correspondences - which was most of what this book was. It took me forever to get through this book because I was reading about the Sabbat correspondences as they came each season, but it wasn't worth dragging it out that long, because none of the recipes seemed appetizing to me personally enough to make them (except I'll probably make the apple crumble next Mabon). The most useful information in this book for me was the kitchen witch cleaning tips at the end. I'll be donating my copy as soon as I copy down those recipes I would like to try.
Some good advice about food and cooking (make it yourself, don't use or buy processed food) recipes that also include some basics such as magickal herb bundles to impart flavor as well as intent. How to make sauces from scratch, etc., but mostly recipes (delicious, delicious recipes) plus when & how to use them in seasonal spell work. She covers all of the sabbats on the wheel of the year. I think it's a good reference for more experienced cooks or at least adventurous beginners.
Very good kitchen book (without illustrations) as it follows the wiccan wheel of the year. As a secular witch, I was more attracted to the reciepes than to the wicca tradition side of the book. However, it provides meals ideas for all the year and even rituals.
There are definitely some nice recipes here that can easily be adapted to most practices or adapted for dietary restrictions. Overall, while I didn't love this book, I liked it well enough to buy my own copy to try cooking from!
It was amazing! it didn't try to sell things as medical science while also keeping a good amount of witchcraft recipes for me to try! i'm currently making some of the bread it suggested and i am very excited to read even more :)
I wish I would have realized that this book was a Wiccan cookbook, not a hedgewitch/cottagewitch resource. Some interesting information but lots of detailed, heavily denominational sabat rituals.
