Rate this book
The year is 1948 and the Tennessee Valley Authority has just completed work on Watauga Lake in eastern Tennessee. The lake will cover nearly six thousand acres, most of which has been occupied by the same families for nearly two hundred years. As the waters rise, Violet Thurston Oliver is forced to vacate her ancestral home, leaving behind that which she loves . . . and that which she desperately fears. Violet makes a new life for herself and her son but always in the shadowy recesses of her mind she wonders . . . Will her secret be forever covered by the murky waters or will it rise one day and change her life forever?

This was a freebie recently and having previously read and enjoyed another book by the author, I took a chance on it. Unusually for me, having opened the book I read it from start to finish.
A boy on holiday, finds what he believes is a pirate chest, but when his father forces it open, it is not treasure that is hidden inside. It truly is a dead man's chest.
The local sheriff and his deputy have the task of finding out where the chest had been originally buried, before the river had been dammed to form the present lake and whose remains were in it.
Their only clue is a gold tooth, but thet was rare enough to be memorable to old timers still living in the area.

This is a wonderful story by Annis Ward Jackson. I have read almost everything she has written. She is a wonderful author. Her books are available on Kindle and I recommend them all!

Into the Deep is a mystery. A box containing a skeleton washed up on a lake during a family outing. Who was it? What happened to the person inside? When did it happen? The police work to solve the mystery and find it centers on one woman.

The woman tells her story.

Well written page turner. A must read!

Excellent story. It started out like a "regular" mystery but was so much more...
