Huon has less than one week to save those he cares about most.
But in the world of Temtoria, time moves at a different rate, and those days are turned into months.
Though Huon has managed to defeat a High Celestial, he still isn't ready to face the Everlasting King. But he has a plan. Reunited with people from his past, he has to teach them all he knows—whether he wants to or not—as when the time comes, they'll only have one chance to defeat their enemy.
This one wasn't bad. It wasn't the strongest ending I've seen by any means. It was way too quick and short, but these have all books short books so it's not big deal. But I still enjoyed it. I felt like the final fight wasn't as good as I was hoping, but no big deal.
Great end to a really enjoyable series - a solid 4.5 for me. This last book definitely brought everything to a satisfying conclusion and resolved the main conflict (though its cost in terms of both body count and impact on the world was much greater than I ever would have expected). Huon continues to level up in Huony ways which is always awesome. My main nitpick would be that the ending seemed a bit abrupt/rushed but not enough to ruin the reading experience.
While it is a definite end to the story that has been told through the 9 books to date, there is definitely room to revisit the characters and I hope that Todd Herzman chooses to do so in the future.
It was entertaining, and the expectation of the last battle between Huon and the Everlasting King was not as expected, it gave me some time to appreciate this universe a bit, it really is hard not to compare universes, writing style, characters but I had fun reading this last volume. Unfortunately, unlike a certain progression fantasy that I re-read again, this one is not that. If the author decides to write a continuation, a new chapter, I would definitely read his work again.
I would rate the overall series a 6.5/10. This particular book, however, receives a 5/10, while many of the books in the first half of this series would receive a 7-8/10.
Many solid, concrete ideas were introduced, and too many answered poorly as this series comes to a close. Too many plot threads solved in unsatisfying ways, and left me, the reader, appreciative of having a concrete ending, but left wondering what could have been.
By far the biggest fault of the story was its loss of scope. Though the system inherently forced the author's hand to keep increasing the scale of the story, I still felt that the scope of the story lost itself. Let's break the series down to its parts.
Setting: The setting was initially strong, but the further we expanded the world, the more the world got more confusing and less cohesive, and the more problems arose. Ultimately, I feel that the mass majority of the setting was introduced to serve a plot purpose, rather than creating an organic culture or society. 5/10.
Characters: Every single character had potential. Each of their stories and personalities all had immense potential to be great, but I must say none of them met that potential. Too many times I felt excited about a particular character arc emerging, only to end unceremoniously or just be forgotten. The main character felt too inconsistent, and began to lose his sense of character that made him an intriguing protagonist. The deuteragonist was a well of wasted potential. The antagonist simply served as a source of evil, with little built up to support him. 6/10
Plot: What began as a relatively simply revenge story with a clear ladder of progression became far too convoluted. The story attempts to right ship at the end and answer all the plot threads introduced, but with the numerous volume of threads introduced, such became impossible. 5/10
Prose: Nothing special, but nothing flawed. The prose captured the characters well. Overall 7/10.
Other: The ending was just far too dissatisfying. The arcs of numerous characters promised gold, but finished a boorish copper.

Very good and satisfying ending. While the story is over it seems like there is room to continue the character’s story going forward. I would be interested to see where it leads
I really enjoyed this book, and the series as a whole. I read this last book in just under 24 hours! The pacing was great, the anticipation/tension was great, and Huon got REALLY strong! I loved it!
This series really grew on me. The 1st book definitely started off slow; however, as the story progressed I could not put down this series! This is a unique world with an interesting power source, great character development, albeit a predictable ending. Definitely worth the read!
It ended. That was the positive part. Got closure. It wasn't really bad, it wasn't really good, as a full story spanning 9 books, it was decent. Even OK. But I won't miss it.
