Double Dipping

Rate this book
Who needs a man when you have a pint of fresh Wisconsin ice cream and full access to Cary Grant on The Movie Channel?

That's what second-grade teacher and MGM-devotee Caitlin Walsh believes. After being left at the altar by her ambitious rat of an ex-fiancé, Cait has rededicated her life to her students and to the citizens of small-town Ridgewood Grove.

But when the school's new financial director, Garrett Ellis, cancels the much-beloved Harvest Hoopla festival, Cait rallies the staff to fight the decision, which puts her in direct conflict with the most formidable man she's ever encountered.

As a reluctant heir to the Ellis Fruit and Nut Gift Basket Empire and the second son of one of the country's most affluent families, Garrett has a penchant for mixing sweet edibles with acts of love. He also has an undercover agenda: to find the person responsible for stealing the district money and to right the situation, while keeping his family background to himself. But in the process, he faces the one woman who challenges his longtime resistance to commitment.

Both Cait and Garrett end up secretly snooping into each other's past: Garrett looking for the thief, Cait uncovering Garrett's private family history and his prior girlfriends -- one of whom turns out to be someone very unexpected...

Love and family complications abound in this small-town romance with a little humor, a light mystery and a lot of sweet ice cream.

Brant has provided a delicious story I devoured in one day! I just could not put down this book! Brant has an amazing ability to create real characters with real flaws, from Cait and Garrett's relationship issues, which are based on previous experiences, to snooty school board members, to loving family members who face their own challenges. I can truly picture these characters in real life. Not only are Brant’s characters believable, but so is the conflict. Cait and Garrett must work together to find the person(s) behind siphoning school funds, of whom there are many suspects. Is it a fellow teacher with children who might need some extra cash, the ambitious, gold-digging school board member, the pliant principal or someone else with an agenda? As they work together to find the thief, Cait and Garrett must learn to trust each other, something neither is good at. While reading about Cait and Garrett's saccharine romance, the readers gets to see the fun, sexy, and playful side, as well as the serious and fragile elements that constitutes their relationship. Well done!
Brant’s creativity in concocting her own ice cream flavors and tying them into the story is also noteworthy. While reading this book, I often found myself craving ice cream. Definitely worth the price of the book and the pints of ice cream one will consume while reading!

This book was a decent, quick read, but nothing special. A lot of it felt implausible, and the crime felt drawn out. The characters had a lot of unnecessary drama, and I wish the mother's declining health had been more central to the plot than a few side mentions. I had a hard time connecting to the characters over all and found myself bored for most of it. Thankfully, there is only one more book in the series, but I doubt I'll read another book by the author.

I'm the author, so I'm naturally going to be very excited about the release of each of my books -- I won't pretend to be unbiased ;). Double Dipping was not the first novel I wrote, but it was the first romance, and I poured a lot of feeling into Cait and Garrett's story, particularly in regards to their family relationships. I was also a public schoolteacher for nearly a decade, so this book is my personal love letter to those hardworking teachers and to a profession I greatly respect. It's my hope that this story will be as humorous and fun as it is romantic and mysterious...and that you'll find as much passion in it as you will ice cream. Thanks so much for your interest in my novels!

The culinary world has a fascination with dipping...thank goodness!! My favorite is anything dipped in CHOCOLATE! Peanuts, pretzels, strawberries! Yep, we love to dip. But the best kind of dipping...is double dipping. It's sinful, forbidden and just naughty enough to be a guilty pleasure. Exactly like the brilliant Marilyn Brant's latest ebook aptly titled, DOUBLE DIPPING.
As her previous ebook, ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAE, this book has all the ingredients that make Marilyn's stories shine. A strong, independent woman (which I love), a smoldering, sensitive hero (what's not to love?), and so many mouth-watering food references you'll want to grab a pint of your favorite before starting the book!
This time, the heroine is second-grade teacher Caitlin Walsh. Who, after having her heart stomped on by a low-life ex-fiance, swears off men for classic movie marathons and her students. But when the school's new financial director, Garrett Ellis cancels the fall festival, Cait (love the nickname...maybe because it's my oldest daughters') organizes the teachers to fight the decision. What happens next is a smorgasbord of witty repartee, burning attraction, and secrets deeper and richer than Mr. Koolemar's Chunky Cherry-Chocolate Jubilee (recipe included in the book!).
Great story, right? So great, you want to rush on over to download it, but keep reading, because I'm going to tell you the secret of Marilyn's writing. You ready? She's real. She writes REAL stories. She writes REAL characters. Any one of her heroines could be your best friend, your sister, you or me. Her stories are so genuine, in fact, I find myself forgetting I'm reading a book. Forgetting these characters aren't my real-life, flesh-and-blood friends. And long after the last paragraph, I find myself thinking about them and wondering what they're doing.
Now, what are you waiting for? Grab your favorite flavor, download DOUBLE DIPPING and dig in!

Marilyn Brant has written another sweet story! You might want to grab a bowl of ice cream while reading this one!
Cailtin Walsh is a second grade teacher who just found out her favorite school festival, the Harvest Hoopla, is being canceled. The man responsible for this decision is the new financial director, Garrett Ellis. Garrett has been hired to find out who has been pocketing money from the schools funds. After an investigation of each other, they team up to find the thief. They are attracted to each other right away but there are trust and commitment issues that keep getting in the way. There are some pretty hot scenes in this story. It was fantastic! It had me laughing and on occasion crying, I love it when a story does that to me. I didn’t want to put it down!

Marilyn Brant has done a great job with "Double Dipping." The writing is clear and crisp, the chemistry between Cait and Garrett hot, and the ice cream is drool worthy. Cait has relationship hangups and Garrett is also not very good at being in a relationship, but they are trying and learning the hard way, all while trying to capture a thief. The intrigue was also written very well and I was kept guessing as to whom the culprit might be. I am eagerly looking forward to Ms.Brant's next release!

Great read with likable characters. The family dynamic for both families was realistic and, I thought, handled beautifully. The only drawback for me was the resolution of the main characters relationship took a teeny bit too long after the secondary plot was resolved. Oh that and I am craving ice cream in a totally serious way ;)

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were likable and they acted in a way that was believable. There was romance between Caitlin and Garrett and a little mystery. I didn't see that coming. And, of course there were the unusual flavors of ice cream.

This was a short and enjoyable read. Five stars.

I was so happy when my husband borrowed "Double Dipping" for me, I started it immediately. I had read "Any Given Sundae" by Marilyn Brant more than a year ago and loved it.
The way that the characters develop and interact flows so nicely. There is a bit of humor with the mystery to solve and the tumultuous romance. However, I wish that the side story-line of Cait dealing with her mothers declining health due to dementia had been glimpsed in the book description for a heads up. This was a little hard for me to read, having just lost my Grandmother to this terrible affliction a short time ago. While it is usually pleasant to make a real world connection with the fiction I read, this was still raw. Not Marilyn Brant's fault, though. She wrote a nice contemporary romance with two people with past issues trying to come together and share that relationship with their loving families. Loved the Epilogue.

This is a romantic novel that will pull you in because of the suspense that builds from the plot. It's about a girl named Caitlin who is a teacher and ends up falling for a co-worker, Garrett, while the two of them work together to try and solve a mystery at the school. Garrett and Caitlin try to hide their relationship, but as the details of the mystery began to be solved, their secret starts to leak.

I listened to the audio version of this book and I couldn't stop listening to it! I was so hooked and enjoyed the romance between Garrett & Caitlin, while wondering who committed the crime. It was like two stories in one and I highly recommend it.

You know, if this book had been by anyone other than Marilyn Brant, I would have given it a solid four. But it's not and I know what Brant can do and this, while being very cute and very sweet, is no where near what one of her five star books is capable of. Maybe it's not fair to hold everything up to According to Jane's standard, but I can't help it.

Still it is a lovely, fun read and I totally rec it to everyone.

It wasn't as good as "A Summer In Europe," but it was a fun and quick read, which was exactly what I was looking for while waiting for my mom to get out of surgery. Not quite as easy to relate to Cait as it was Gwen (not quite sure why, but that could be just my lack of sleep), but the characters are still fun and interesting.
