This is a very nice book, and if you approach it as a motivation to get out there may well do the trick, (note the word "inspirational" in the title!). As a serious guide it is not so helpful, as it is hardly of a size or dimensions to take off walking with you.

However, it is full of lovely pictures and interesting / useful advice - how much of it you will actually use is questionable, but that does not detract from its interest. If you like Ray Mears, or anything similar, I am sure you will like this book.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a 'living book' this is - Ray's affable nature translates very well into writing, and the stories of tribes woven throughout the practical tips are a delight to read. I'll be sharing this one with my boys in a few years.

An extremely solid grounding in the basics of bushcraft. Not as detailed as some, but a lot more readable, and applicable in all climates.

Only criticism: it's physical size means its not especially suited to being read out and about. Which is exactly where I want to be able to take it.

If I ever get shipwrecked I want to have Ray Mears with me. His knowledge is phenomenal.
