I feel like this text alone was enough to prepare one to get a 5 on the AP Biology exam. Retrospectively, it is remarkable how easy the curriculum is to master for these course and how much faster they can be done. I have high confidence that without the actual classroom instruction, I would have still been able to get the same score on the AP Bio exam. So it's great they make these books, and I would recommend to ambitious and bright high schoolers with some time to check these books out, prep for certain AP exams without actually taking the course. I was able to do this for at least one course in high school in the late aughts. And if one goes to a state school, credit will be awarded even for scores 3 and above, meaning you can waltz to bachelor's in less than two years easily and then get out with a master's degree of some kind in less than 4 or a professional degree in less than 6.

Read the 3rd edition to prepare for the DAT. The book was very thorough but extremely dry. The sample questions were much appreciated. I highly recommend viewing the relevant Crash Course videos before beginning each chapter, as the book immediately delves into intricate details without doing any macro-level review of the most important themes of each section.

This book saved my life in AP Bio and I will forever be indebted. I read through it so many times and used it exclusively to study for the test. If you are taking AP Bio and you are struggling even the tiniest bit....you NEED this!

Would recommend using as a reference or a supplement, but not your sole method of studying, especially considering that this book is now out of date. Some of the sections are not even on the new AP exam. However, it does cover essential topics like photosynthesis and cell respiration well, and one cannot complain about having more practice multiple choice questions. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't abide by what this book says in terms of the format of the exam.

I guess I'll mark this as read... sort of a lame book to add to my shelves.

Good information, not quite enough to use this as your sole reference for the class but a nice supplementary book. One year out of date, but whatever. The diagrams are a bit too confusing to me and it would have helped if they were restructured.

Wow! What an exciting read! I don't know which zany ride was more thrilling--the Calvin Cycle, or the Krebs Cycle! OMG!
It did help me prepare for the teacher test though.

I've had it since the beginning of Senior Year. I'm still reading it now as I cram for the AP Biology Test. Instead of reading the 1200+ page textbook, read 200-300 pages in about 3 hours.

Much better than my AP Bio textbook, but I still probably bombed the AP exam!
