Saleeya Stayvel is a young woman and communications specialist. She has been called on to make sure there are no miscommunications between the rules of the planet Xihirah, and a group of terrorists calling themselves The Realmist. The Realmists hate anyone who is not descended from humanoids from Earth, they are especially hateful towards the Xihirans who have the ability to shift into cat-like creatures.

Admoncor Kael Braeden is a crown prince on Xihirah, as well as, the head of the Xihiran military. He knows almost immediately after meeting Saleeya that she is is mate.

It becomes apparent to Saleeya not very long after she arrives on Xihirah that she and her assistant are getting the royal treatment. It also becomes apparent almost immediately that Admoncor is as attracted to her as she is to him. However, there are rumors about the Xihirans, and her assistant becomes concerned for her and tells her a bit about how the Xihirans mate. This doesn't deter Saleeya from beginning a relationship with Admoncor, though she does seem a bit concerned with how fast he is moving. Fortunately, Admoncor addresses her concerns early in the story, and convinces her that his intentions are honorable. However, before they can announce their intentions to his family and hers, The Realmists snatch Saleeya. Will Admoncor be able to save her before The Realmists decide she must die for mating with someone who they consider to be less than human?

Wow! I LOVED Xihirah by Ciara Lake, it is truly phenomenal scifi romance! The world building is one of the things that make this story truly unique. I loved the idea of alien cat-like shifters, and quite frankly I hope to see more books in this series. The love scenes are erotic, and have the key element of being very emotional. In my opinion this is key to wring a great love story, and Ms. Lake has truly outdone herself in this respect with Xihirah. If you love shifter stories, science fiction, and your love scenes hot enough to singe your eyebrows, then you'll want to pick up your copy of Xihirah today!

* Very good world building
* Likeable H/h
* Lots of action and suspense; not just one sex scene after another
* Good kick-off for a series
* BAD bad guys!!

To Work On:
I got this at Siren-Bookstrand, but it needs a little re-working to put it at a high calibre. I really liked her book, 'Triaxen' and this was just about as good. I want to know what happened to the best friend, Mia, and Kael's brothers and I feel like a lot was left hanging... maybe for Book 2?

Overall, this book is perfectly set up for a series, and I hope the author writes one now.

This was a great story with wonderful world building. Ms. Lake's imagination is fantastic. Her world building makes you just close your eyes and you are there.

She weaves romance, sex and the story together. A recent review indicated the conversation was immature or the story was immature. So, not true. The story had depth. It is hard to find erotic stories with depth. The conversation at times could have been stilted slightly, but after all, do we know how aliens would really talk? How can we judge people of another world?

I thought this book made a statement which went deeper than about the romance and the characters. It was a story of prejudice and how that prejudice can make a civilizations stupid, and narrow in their views. How hatred for others can cause unnecessary violence. This story echoed the world around us. For sure, this was a smart and sexy romantic story. Immature is certainly not true, and hard to believe that word would be equated with this book. I guess you don't have to be a smart to write these reviews! You could miss the whole book if you don't think! This story had a political statement about culture and the mixing of races. How it can impact us to hate other who are different from us. It was fun too, and kept me reading until it was done.

It you like burning up sex, well, this had good scenes, but not as hot as some. That's okay! There are other elements which make a book good. But, like I said the development of the world was excellent. The characters and the underlying story is what gives the book my five star rating. The enjoyable sex scenes are just the icing on the cake of a good well developed story. In fact, this would make a great movie.

I liked the story but the execution left much to be desired as much of it reads like a very young high school girl had written it. I found it very frustrating because I so liked many of the characters and the plot and then she would come up with such immature actions and dialog for the characters!

I found the plot interesting enough that I finished the book but I was ready to pull my hair out with frustration over at least 1/3 of the dialog.

Sad to say I won't be re-reading this one. I will be trying at least one more of her books, perhaps one of the more recent ones, with the hope that her writing style will have matured to match her imagination which is very good indeed.

I had to write a review after all the high star reviews I read.

The world and politics are interesting. The H/h are likable. There is a HEA.

However, I was irritated when something was said or described it was said or described again using the same descriptions. I am an adult and don't need to be told twice.

Sadly, many conversations fell flat. They sound like a bunch of young adults. Emotions between characters just happened without necessary buildup. The h's best friend has a lot to say in the beginning and then poof! her character is gone.

The sex would be great but fails with relying on all encompassing words such as seductive and passionate.

Disappointed.

The storyline here was actually okay, a little predictable and very slow to get going, but okay. I enjoyed and it wanted to see where it was going. Unfortunately, the writing let it down, was very repetitive and tended to tell you what was happening in the story instead of showing you. This always makes me feel like thew author feels I don't have the intelligence to work it out, especially when the main characters have to talk to themselves so you understand what's going through their heads. Don't know that I will bother with more of the series however.
