A better man would tell Pete no—I am so not that man
My name is Darwin De Groi and I’m in love with Peter Forbes. For years I lived in pain, watching Peter but never having him. Then Peter learned he wasn’t going to be Human anymore—he was going to become Lesser-Bred. In Atlanta, dragon-Human hybrids kind of go along with the scenery, so for me Peter losing his humanness was no big deal. After all, I now had Pete and my world was perfect.
Or so I thought.
I mean, I knew love wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but seriously—top secret metaphysical experiments, underground Lesser-Bred societies, government contracts? And Peter in the middle of it all? I guess it just goes to prove that finding love isn’t about catching the man of your dreams, it’s about dealing with his deep, dark, inhuman secrets.
And not getting killed—and eaten—in the process.
This paper bound version of the Darwin's Theory series includes all 5 original books, non-edited copies of cover art, as well as an alternate cover for book 5.
Also included in this version is a bonus novella, the first book in the Darwin's Theory 2.0.
Georgia born and bred, I am an artist, a writer, and a general pain in the ass. I spend most of my days working on my next book or bettering my art. Writing is my identity and I love every minute of it. It's work, lots of work (sometimes I work 12+ hours a day and I never get a vacation) but I don't regret doing it. I currently share my house with a myriad of dogs, a few cats, a saltwater aquarium filled with coral and fish, as well as my partner who's great at giving hugs when the day's been rough. And of course, my editor and PA, who helps me keep life reasonably organized. At least so I won't walk out the door without wearing pants.
I loved this world, and especially loved Darwin. I laughed, and snorted, and giggled with him. And then I cried until I felt like my own heart was breaking. The volume was well written, great prose and dialogue, a fair start to world building, and solid character development. There were a number of technical errors in the paperback, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.
This is not a traditional shifter story. This is a unique take on the metaphysical aspect dragons and dragon/human hybrids ("lesser breds") and a very good start to sharing this contemporary, alternate universe with readers.
However! The reader is left hanging at its end, with more questions than answers. To say I was frustrated wouldn't quite cover it, even though the two main characters are together. I'll be moving on to Gray Zone, set in the same universe, but am sad to report that it apparently has nothing to do with Peter, Darwin, and Raithe. I hope Wilder decides to continue or at least finish the series. I'd take a nice, convenient closure all tied up with pretty bow...that would be better than the way it stands now.
Still, highly recommended to urban fantasy and sci-fi fans.
A great addition for fans of the Darwin's Theory series. This paperback edition includes the first 5 volumes from Darwin's POV plus a sneak peek at Part Two of the series entitled, Darwin's Theory 2.0, Cepheid Variable, which is from Peter's POV. It's also nice to see the graphic art covers on paper. They have a lot more impact than on my Kindle.
My reviews of each of the first 5 volumes can be found here. The sneak peek into the next volume from Peter's POV is tantalising. Whitcomb is as sleazy and untrustworthy as ever. Always trying to manipulate Peter's fears to separate him from Darwin. Peter's ongoing transformation is spectacular and freaky. The guys attempt to break into the University lab where Peter used to work to get some results from his tests but what they find is an almighty shock.
The next volume looks fantastic but I'm really hoping for two things from this second series. I want Peter to step up and be the hero this time. He has always been too easily led and has had to rely on Darwin's steadfast love and belief in them. I want him to save Darwin for a change. Secondly I want that rat bastard Whitcomb to die a very painful death!;)
I read the 5 Darwin’s Theory novella’s in their eBook format. This trade size paperback consists of Pain, Secret, Promises, Lost, and Found. All five of these are told from Darwin’s point of view. They are the story of Darwin and Peter. The readers are taken on the crazy ride of how they become a couple, the events that lead to Peter being kicked out of college, Peter losing his humanity and becoming a Lesser-Bred, and how they remain together throughout all of these problems.
There is an added bonus at the end of the book. Darwin’s Theory 2.0, Cepheid Variable. The big change here is that the point of view has been switched from Darwin to Peter. It was refreshing and new to see life with Darwin through Peter’s eyes. And what a crazy life that is! This is the next novella in the series. It picks up where Found left off. This is a must read in order serial. The revelations that are made at the end of Found are still being studied by Peter. This even leads Peter down the road that takes him to his first felony.
The whole bundled paperback including the six stories is bargain priced at $9.99. If you ever thought about giving the Darwin’s Theory series a try this is definitely the route to go!
