Kara's Moon
Ginny Harrison wasn't ready for marriage so she left Seattle and Phil behind to live with her grandmother in the Wenatchee mountains of Washington, hoping to figure out what was missing in her relationship with Phil.
There, she meets up-and-coming artist Kara Morgan, who is renting a cabin for the summer.
An unlikely friendship develops between the two. Kara, a loner by nature, intends to spend the summer sketching and painting.
Instead, she finds herself increasingly attracted to the younger woman. Ginny, too, is drawn to the quiet artist and finds her thoughts moving in an entirely different direction than friendship.
She finally finds what's been missing in her life.

This was a wonderful old-school Gerri Hill novel. The short chapters and alternating POVs from both main characters made it an easy, engaging read.
Kara is more or less out as a lesbian, while Ginny is deeply stuck in denial. You can really tell this book was written over 25 years ago. Being a lesbian is still treated as something unusual, same-sex marriage isn't even a consideration, and a woman approaching thirty is expected to find herself a husband. Ginny also seems to struggle with quite a bit of internalized homophobia, while Kara keeps convincing herself that Ginny simply has to be straight.
I have to admit I found Ginny rather frustrating. She goes along with Phil's nonsense far too easily and constantly bends to Nana's expectations. Maybe that's simply a reflection of the time in which the story was written, but it still made me want to shake her more than once.
The book certainly isn't perfect. The third-act breakup felt a bit contrived, and—content warning—there's some pretty bad heterosexual sex in this book! Still, I had such a great time reading it. The story flowed effortlessly, and I genuinely enjoyed the entire experience.

Sweet love story. I was a little surprised at a twenty-eight year old calling her grandmother 'Nana'. That was kinda sappy. But, overall, a good read.

This was an online fan fic that is super old. I really like Gerri Hill's romance books, though. They're solid and I always know I'm going to feel nice when I'm done.

I loved it. One of my favourites that I revisit frequently. Just the right amount of everything. The ending is beautiful and I could have kept reading further along in their lives, had it been written.

Where do you go to reflect and find out who you are and what you need? Wenatchee mountains of Washington and hang out with your grandmother. I enjoyed this story as Ginny dealt with her internal struggles and her desire to maintain her relationship with her grandmother. I found Kara interesting and likable as she interacts with Ginny realizing they enjoy each other's company.

AWESOME!!!! FREAKING PHIL. I WISH THERE WAS MORE ABOUT MARSHAL. I LIKED HER HUMOR. BUT THIS WAS REALLY GOOD, APART FROM THE WHOLE GINNY-PHIL SEX… LIKE EEWW!!!

Great story with lots of angst. It was free to read on the author's webpage as were two other shorter stories I also read.
