I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I also spent a year (5th grade) in Montgomery, Alabama, and a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan(8th grade). As a child, I always wanted to be a writer, but I had lots of other ambitions too. I wanted to be a teacher, a librarian, a movie star, the president of the United States, and a ballerina.

I didn't achieve all my goals. I never became a movie star, the president of the U.S., or a ballerina. But I've been a teacher and a librarian and most of all, a writer. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs and lots of letters. Writing wasn't easy for me, but it felt natural and right.

I've always read a lot, too. I was an English major at Emory University (I love Shakespeare), and I also received a master's degree in library science at Emory. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and I taught children's and teen literature at St. John's University in New York for over 20 years. Now, I'm a full-time writer, living in Paris, France - the most beautiful city in the world.

The second half was definitely more interesting than the first. But who would have thought about Number Five?!

This book pulls a complete Wizard of Oz on you. The whole time you think it's reality, and then it's explained that Amy was just tripping on some seriously whack drug called Toast. Until the nurse says Tammy's foot actually is broken. And then you're there with Dorothy and her ruby slippers in Kansas, like, "Whoa, what?"

I don't know what actually happened. It was really awesome.

I love how this series is both predictable and unexpected at the same time. I am having a lot of fun reading them as an adult and can't wait to finally get to finish the series!!

Perfect Girls
It starts off Amy, Tasha, and Eric are on the way to school. They’re talking about the Awareness Asemby. Then they start talking about Janine and the National Essay Contest. The assembly turns out to be about drug abuse. It’s announced at the assembly there are two finalists and they’ll be going to NY to compete with the other winners. It’s Amy and Janine. Amy knows her mother won’t be pleased by this and she’s not.

The competition is during Spring Break, but unfortunately her mom has a conference. She says she’ll make it up to her and take her to New York over the summer (since this is what Amy said mattered most). Later, the Morgans have dinner with them and Amy finds out she’ll be staying with them while her mother is in Africa. Since her parents seem to have such nostalgic memories of New York, Tasha suggest they all go. Her parents jump right on the idea.

They’ll be in New York a week. There’s a get together the day after they arrive in the morning, the competition is Tuesday, and they announce the winner Thursday at the banquet. Of couse, they’ve planned some touristy things: musuems, the play Cats (Monday), the Rockefeller Center, seeing if they can get on a tv show, and going to a Knicks game (Wednesday). Eric wants to take a horsedrawn carriage ride. Amy hopes Janine doesn’t hang around with them the whole trip. She knows she likes Eric and doesn’t want to give her the opportunity to spend time with him. She considers shaking her hand *accidently* breaking her bones.

There’s a dinner that night in the ballroom. Jeanine wears a slinky black dress that’s too formal. Surprisingly, Jeanine asks Amy to go with her and another girl shopping the next day. While having their dinner, Amy passes out. A doctor comes by the table to examine her. Amy’s pulse is rapid so the doctor calls for Amy to be taken to the hospital. Mrs. Morgan says she’ll go with her and tells Mr. Morgan to call Amy’s mother. Mr. Drexler says it’s normal for the contestants to have a case of anixiety but Amy’s not normal. (Was it the soup?)

Amy dreams of the fire and wakes up in the hospital. Amy’s told what happened by a RN named Tammy, Mrs. Morgan is gone. Everything looks normal, but she says the doctor needs to look at her. Her watch is locked up at the nurse’s station. It’s now eight in the morning. The nurse tells her to rest. Breakfast will be around soon. After breakfast (which LIES because hospital food is NEVER that good. TRUST ME I KNOW) Dr. Markowitz pays her a visit. Again she checks out fine, but she wants to keep her for 48 hours to see why she fainted. They won’t let her call Mrs. Morgan. They say she’ll be by later with her friends, Later, Tasha and Eric are told and they know Amy can’t be sick They decide not to do anything and just wait to see Amy. They all decide to go to the hospital, The Morgans go to invite Jeanine but she’s gone with Sarah. She tells them to tell Amy she hopes she gets better (riiight). Tasha thinks Jeanine may have done something to Amy. At the hospital, they’re told Amy’s not allowed visitors. Mrs, Morgan demands to speak to the doctor. She tells them Amy’s not in any immediate danger. She says until she rules out that she doesn’t have a bacterial infection she’ll be kept for observation. They won’t even let her speak to Tasha on the phone.

Lunch rolls around. Amy isn’t allowed out of bed. She’s told the Morgans were there but she was knocked out. Tammy gives her a yellow pill to “calm” her. Amy knows she’s not about to take that pill. Instead of dropping her mouth she drops it down the neckline of her gown. After Tammy leaves she notices the windows have bars. But she doesn’t think anything of this. So, she starts flipping channels. Amy is able to sneak out the room and she finds a phone, but then she hears voices. Her doctor asks what the problem is. Tammy says number two didn’t eat her breakfast. She says she can move them all when they’re sleeping. Amy tries to call different numbers but there’s no dial tone. Then she’s caught by the doctor. The doctor calls her out to her RN and she escorts her back to her room. She says she’ll wake her up when the Morgan’s come if she’s not sleep. But Amy says she doesn’t sleep that much. Then the food comes. Amy notices there’s cinnamon in the apple pie and she feel asleep after she ate. Amy flushes all her food down the toilet. She hears footsteps and fakes sleep. The Dr. sees she ate the pie and says she’ll be out for two hours. She says everything should be set up and she’s taken to another room. Now she’s in a room with eight others. They’re all females. They all have straight, brown, hair. They all have .. her face. Tammy comes up behind her and comments that she didn’t eat all her dinner and then she knocks her out.

Eric is suspicious and goes to the library to make sure the hospital is real. He says to make sure it isn’t an experimental lab and they haven’t kidnapped Amy. But he says it’s legit. Jeanine is invited to have dinner with them and she and Tasha get into it. Jeanine puts on a act that she’s hurt that Tasha thinks she doesn’t care about Amy. Tasha offers Jeanine Amy’s crescent necklace to win in the competition as a peace offering. She says she’s allergic to nickel but Tasha assures her it’s real silver. All the Amy’s awaken in shock. They all seem to have known subsciously there were others. All they’re names are Amy. They all want to know what they’re doing there. They all realize they have the same birth mark. Amy’s the only one who knows the whole truth. Tammy then comes in with food. One of em demands answers. Another threatens to beat it out of her. Tammy rushes off to find the doctor. Amy says they shouldn’t eat the food until they get answers, but all the others are hungry and decide they need to keep their strength up. All but (number three) who comes to Amy to frightened to eat. That’s when she notices they all have necklaces, which meant he lied. Now Amy doesn’t think she’ll be able to trust any one ever again.

This is where they’re from (Kansas, NJ, Brooklyn, Spain, Virginia, Austriala, and one is in a youth choir that’s rouring the US). The Dr comes in and tells them about Project Crescent. She tells them they’ll all be tested. She also says she was the director of the project. Amy doesn’t know if she can trust her. Amy lets on that they’ve been bugged. Then she notices her charm is different. Tammy says they all got them while they were sleeping. They say they’ll test them for a day on vision and hearing. Then they’ll be returned to their parents. They have a recreaton room set up for them. Amy takes off her necklace and urges the others to do the same. She’s figured out they’re used to spy on them. Then she tells the others the *real* story. Five and Amy are in conflict. Five thinks they should wait and see where this goes. Amy says she shouldn’t trust them. So when Tammy comes, Amy refuses to cooperate. Tammy says it’s a team effort and asks the other girls if Seven (Tammy) should leave. Amy is then lead away and locked into a room (until she can cooperate).

Amy notices there’s something weird about the girl brining the food. She’s robotlike. She convinces Tammy she’ll be good and she leads her back to the others. Amy is given a deafening sound test of bees but she’s able to mute it. The noise doesn’t affect the doctor giving the test and she realizes hee’s deaf. The others who have taken the test are shaken terribly. Three and Five are missing. Amy has the idea to cover her charm with clear polish and all the clones do the same. Now they seem ready to listen to her. They all make a plan to split up and take all the doctor’s down. Five still isn’t ready to believe she says something must have went wrong with the equipment. Dr. M comes in and confirms this and apologizes. But she says the test just proved their even stronger than they’d imagined they’d be. They survived. If they combine they’re skills think of what they could accomplish. They promise they won’t hurt them again. Three fall for it and get excited. They find out Three has been dismissed.

Amy comes up with a plan. They can bend the bars to the windows and escape, But they have to get the leader Five on their side. Five doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere. Before she can try to bend the bars, the girl in the pink smock leads her to a room. Inside the room is the body of Number Three. This will give her the proof she needs to convince the others. So she takes off running to tell them, but Tammy is there scolding her for wanting to jump out the window. She says she’ll have to put her in solation, but she steps on Tammy’s foot. She shouts for the others to come see what they did to three, but none of the other Amy’s are in the room.

She takes Tammy’s keys and takes off running. Blocking the door to the exit is a doctor. There’s a pink smock girl coming and Amy ducks behind her. Amy runs to the door but there are a million keys. Luckily she’s got a new skill telling which key will fit a certain lock. As the doctor comes after her (probably seeing Tammy on the floor) she goes through the door he was blocking and down some stairs. The door opens and closes and she sees Dr. M. So she decides to follow her to find out where her sisters are. She finds Dr. M in a room with Amy Five. She’s asking the dcctor about the pink smock girls. She says they’re part of a left over experience. They have no brain or sensory skills. She then starts to ask her about the other girl’s skills. Then she expresses her concerns about”Seven”. She gets her to agree to try harder to get her to cooperate. Amy is shocked that Five has betrayed her What could they have promised her? sisters and then she’s caught by one of the doctors its Mr. Devon.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgan convince Tasha and Eric to go to the nKnicks game alone. Tasha stops by Jeanine’s room to get Amy’s necklace back. She finds it but finds an envelope that smells like cinnamon toast. The drug that the actor talked about at school. He says he’s with her but Amy takes off running and escapes out the window. Dr. M tries to grab her but Amy’s grip is too strong. So she tells Five to do it, but she can’t grip her either. So she calls the others to help her. Five uses her strength to push Amy off the ledge. Amy is falling and then she opens her eyes and she’s in a hospital with and the Morgans are there. Jeanine claimed she was given the drug but by one of the contestants but was going to give it to the officials. The Morgans say Amy’s been difting in and out of consciousness but Dr. M has “taken good care of her” the whole time. She can leave tomorrow. The girl comes in with the pink smock bringing her food. She pinches her but the girl reacts. Scratch that. Amy gets to leave today. Another nurse comes in and Amy asks about Tammy. The other nurse says she didn’t come in today. She has a broken foot. Amy writes it off as a hallucination because of the drugs . OR WAS IT?

My Thoughts
NOT BAD! I couldn’t tell if this really WAS a hallucination OR if it was actually REAL and convered up by the hallucination. My mind says ir was all a cover up. The essay contest was a front to get Amy to come to NY. Jeanine probably was paid by the Organization. Either that or she was bribed. She was at the dinner so it wouldn’t have been anything to slip some of the CT (cinnamon toast) drug into something Amy was eating. Maybe not the soup but something else. So, Tasha was right to suspect her. But she got sloppy. She left the envelope in her room where someone could find it. Not surprising the “bad guys” usually do mess up some kind of way. All I needed at the end was some corny thing to happen like Dr. M show up, say Amy’s free to go, and then on the way out wink at her. Or maybe something like “Maybe our paths will cross again one day.” I’m hoping that this series will stay on the same track now as this one.

I wrote a blog post on my Dreamwidth reviewing the three books in this series I read: "Amy, Number Seven," "Another Amy," and "Perfect Girls." The concluding paragraph there will be included in the reviews I put here. This may come across as disjointed.

"Perfect Girls" was my faaaaavorite as a kid. Now, I gave it four stars because it was just so interesting! What action! Such a plot! Such possibilities! All of this I declare as an adult. Wow, I -adored- it. Disliked the ending and found it enormously stupid. It was super lame that Amy didn't meet -all- the clones then. So she'd met herself, ballet!Amy, actor!Amy, and then seven others. That's ten Amys. How difficult would it have been for her to meet them -all- here, Marilyn Kaye, and go from there? Sigh. I liked this book showing Amy could be poisoned. Good worldbuilding. As a kid, I was horrified when someone died. As an adult, I knew it would happen going in. As an adult, this book was much more nightmare fuel. The person died not because the sounds were too loud; it was because electric shocks simulating something related to the sounds were being administered. The shocks got worse as the sounds got overwhelmingly louder. One person was literally shocked to death while hearing those loud noises. The room was soundproofed. Everyone who heard the noises was screaming for it to be turned off and for the shocks to stop. The final event surrounding this, when Amy jumps out of a window--stupid. I disliked it. And the book ended how it did--no. Cheap. Lame. Lost opportunity. And it's apparently -retconned- further in the series? NO! CHEAP SHOT.

Jeanine continues to be her usual jerk self in this one. I felt bad that Tasha felt bad for her. I was dismayed when she handed over the necklace, as I had been as a kid. As when I was a kid, I cheered inwardly when she got the necklace back -and- found the poison. People like Mrs Morgan are terrible people. Tasha and Eric run to her, an adult, and explain they found what made Amy sick, and that the poison was literally in Jeanine's drawer. Mrs Morgan flaps her jaws about blaarp blugghhh oh no not poooosssible blargh yarp blugh. Jeanine could have been physically pouring the poison into Amy's mouth in front of Mrs Morgan, and Mrs Morgan would have yapped about how it's not true. (Censored), Mrs Morgan, and I hope your kids are placed with more responsible parents.

Over the course of all three books I read, a lot of emotions didn't make sense, nor some of the reactions. People didn't change as characters or learn anything really, and part of that was the continuity being so bad because the author preferred to heap repeated backstory onto her audience for most of the books. A lot of interesting stuff took place off-page and in between books that I would have liked to see. What a letdown. I'm glad I read these three books again, though.

This was a pretty fun installment of this series and in my opinion, better than the last but not without some faults.

In this novel, Amy and Jeanine are the lucky winners of an essay competition and win a free trip to New York. Lucky for Amy, when her mom can't go Tasha's family springs at the opportunity for a trip. But soon after arriving, Amy has a fainting spell and finds herself in a hospital, one with staff that won't allow her to leave. What is going on, and will she be able to escape before anything else happens to her?

Okay, so let's get the quips out of the way. There's a certain "did this really happen or not" trope that I really didn't like. I found it unnecessary and it muddied the waters of what we can believe happened in this book. Why I have such a big issue with it is that on either side it should affect Amy in a certain way. On one hand, she would definitely seek out vengeance. On the other, it's just an unfortunate mishap. Either way, it affects Amy's character arc so it would've been more important to choose one reality rather than ignoring both possibilities. It shouldn't have been glossed over.

Other than that, I had a ton of fun with this one. The stakes were a lot higher. I wish I could say more, but I can't without giving too much away. Needless to say, this one is a nailbiter and a true test of Amy's abilities. This one had a distinct thriller vibe that I ate right up, and I blazed through the book in no time.

And Amy. Poor, poor Amy. She's definitely being forced to grow up faster than she's ready to, and having to juggle with the decisions she had to make was relatable and kind of heartbreaking.

Despite this book's shortcomings, I'm ready for more of this series and can't wait to see what happens next!

Marilyn Kaye puts her best foot forward

This is the fourth in the series. Be sure to read the others first as this is just one ongoing novel with quasi-endings. Eric and Amy get closer in this book; however, I think not as close as he gets to the Kicks. There is intrigue, calculating minds, and escape seines. There is betrayal, surprise, and confusion. There is fashion, nickel allergies, and hot apple pie. The ending makes you want to reach for the next book.

You need to prepare yourself to read this book. Sit by the fireplace with a big fuzzy cat and have plenty of cinnamon toast handy.

What a very imaginative way to try to get all 12 Amy’s on the same day, heck same place. Experiments and Tests being done on those who were captured to find out just strong and intelligent these sisters are. How will #7 get out of this one

Andrew had a PERFECT review of this book under the review section. I loved the bait and switch of is it reality or was it all in Amy’s imagination from the drug Toast. I loved that it was left up to the reader to decide — Tammy’s broken toe.

Ova mi se više sviđa od drugih.
Za ove testove bih vjerojatno odgovorila: ne možete me natjerati da radim nešto što ne želim. Bez obzira na to, morate imati dozvolu mojih roditelja ili skrbnika.☝️🤓

Replica is a book that is interesting. The books main character is Amey Cammblen she is one of seven clones. She gets poisoned and has to make a trip to the hospital. When in the hospital she is deathly sick, and she starts to go in to a dream. She dreams about an evil doctor that kidnaps her and all of her clones too!
I was intrigued when I read the book because of the way that Marilyn Kaye describes the intense action and suspense like when the doctor chases Amey. This book is an exciting one that is good for any time when you have nothing to do or on a long trip. Replica was an interesting book about a real but fictional character. The book would be good for people who love to read no mater what age they are.

I thought this series was pretty good so far, granted, i skipped books 2 and 3.... i didn't realize this was part of a series! I got books 4 and 1 from my cousin a long time ago, along with a whole box of books, and i read them a long time ago too. So in all that book confusion i read books out of order, and randomly find my childhood books on Goodreads! Anyway... from what i remember, Amy was some scientific project and has like a crescent moon mark on her or something. She was made to be an elite superhuman, and the project was cancelled. every amy was supposed to die. Her 'mother' smuggled her out and she remains a perfect Amy. Now there's tons of them!

Amy, her friends, Tasha and Eric, and her arch enemy, Jeanine, are on a trip to NYC. But Amy gets sick and ends up in the hospital. When she comes around, she finds herself surrounded by Amy's and mysterious doctors.

I loved this one. It was just loads of fun. It was different, and that is a good thing. You don' t want the same old thing all the time. I love Marilyn Kaye.
