This is an entertaining book in the 'Percy the Park keeper' series which carries an important message to readers on friendships. Percy plans a treasure hunt for his animal friends and he sets out illustrated clues for them, upon learning they cannot read so adapting to their needs, which they follow however soon they get a little lost and run in to a someone who they are very weary of. They soon understand that looks don't always matter and they make friend with this new animal. The illustrations do not fill the whole page however sometimes fade in to the white background which is very effective. As well as this the pictures are relevant to the story and depict what is written. The letter that Percy writes at the beginning of the text is written in different font compared to the rest of the text and is illustrated as a letter which draws the eye but also makes the text look more attractive. Furthermore the font is black and written on a write background so it stands out and is easy to read.
A childhood favourite of mine that was reintroduced to me while working at a summer school. I was very happy to read it to the children over and over again with absolutely no complaints. It has a great storyline and the beautiful illustrations combined with the added fun of the gold coins on each page are the stand out characteristics of this book due to their engaging nature!
Excellent book to teach kids on how to organize treasure hunt. Also, this book exhibits the importance of values (like acceptance, friendship, team work, being content for small things etc) . Very engaging book – makes you turn the pages once again after you finished reading.
He sets up a treasure hunt for all the animals, but silly Percy eats the gold coins he finds in his pocket, forgetting that they are supposed to be the treasure! Butterworth heads in for the cutesy ending, with the animals concluding that the best kind of treasure is making their new friend... and then he swerves and the animals are like "making friends is good but so is treasure (hint hint etc etc)". I was pleased - a sweet ending, but not a saccharine one. Percy, you got some 'splainin' to do!
The Treasure Hunt By Nick Butterworth Percy is of course the lovable, caring park keeper. He has many animal friends, all beautifully drawn, that live in the park. In this story, Percy has organised a treasure hunt for the animals, but in true Percy style things do not go according to plan. Children will love this book with its adorable animals and the lift-the-flap pages. There is even a treasure hunt at the end for the children to take part in.
Percy the park keeper prepared a treasure hunt for his animal friends who lived in the park. He hid clues so that one led to another until the treasure could be found. Unfortunately, there was a problem regarding the treasure. This is such a cute and fun story and the adorable illustrations - with a fold out page - are fabulous.
