Book #5 in the Lesson Series. Ginny has been living the romance novel formula over and over again. In her new adventure, she decides that it's her turn to call the shots. Not only will she decide who she is to fall in love with, but Ginny plans on taking control of her own destiny. Or at least the destiny of her newest character, Corliss. The mega-hunk, Nathaniel, has different plans. He is the captain of his ship and his fate. As a privateer in the late 18th century, Nathaniel is not used to being controlled by anyone. Will Ginny be able to live as she pleases, or will the plot have its way in the end?
I started writing fiction at the age of 12 for my friends. Of course, in those days, I was the heroine, saving dashing rock stars from their ruin. Now, somewhat older, hopefully wiser, I decided to finally put down my ideas on paper and write about a heroine not unlike myself (personality wise, certainly not realistically).
After finding my own soulmate (which is just another word for the only man willing to live with me), and having two beautiful children, I'm changing my stay-at-home mom status to part-time author. Which isn't to say that my days are not still filled with laundry and dishes, but I've also added writing.
I have many plans for my heroine, Ginny. She will meet matchmakers, pirates, cowboys and maybe a vampire or two. If I've read it in a romance novel, you can bet, Ginny will live it in an upcoming novel.
Thank you for all the support from my family and friends. Without my overly encouraging husband, none of these books would have been written. And I really appreciate my fellow neighborhood mommies. They make the best editors in the world.
I skimmed thru most of this. Not a huge fan of ship-historicals so I wasn't all that into it to begin with, but I remember really disliking this book the first time I read it (and then deciding to shelve the rest of the series b/c of it) so I didn't feel all that compelled to do more that remind myself what happened. Luckily this series can be read as stand-alones for the most part.
Okay, so totally different tone and texture to this story in the series. Still, Ginny remains the admirable heroine, if a little less so. The hero was something so totally unexpected, and not a man I could admire in the least. I understand that Ginny was not to really be HIS heroine, but his actions and feelings were so ruthless, uncaring, degrading, and unremorseful, it was difficult to see past the haze of disgust. Ginny's relationship with him was nothing more than carnal pleasure with no real feelings or emotions from either which became very disappointing. At least Ginny was faithful and honest and cared enough not to hurt the other person. This has been my least favorite story in the series so far.
I enjoyed this book as I have the previous four books in this series. In this book she basically did whatever she wanted without regard for the circumstances realizing that her current identity wasn't real and that she was protected from harm by being the heroine. I quickly read through this book eager to see just what crazy thing she would do next. I liked that she was on a ship. It kept all the main characters in close proximity to each other and therefore kept the action moving forward. Also, it prevented a constant influx of new characters.
This one was better than the last one, but I think I am getting a little burnt out on this series. Since the next one isn't out yet, I'll have a nice break. This one was definately the least predictable of all the books in the series. I liked Ginny's attitude a lot better in this one also.
If you read the other books you know the deal our favorite girl is in a romance only this time her booty will be exposed. Lol that is to say it’s a pirate romance with not one not two but three Mega Hunks as Ginny calls them each better then the next you never know where the story will go and neither does Ginny apparently.
I love this author. She always writes such witty characters and the dialogue never disappoints. I cannot wait to see what the main character gets up to next.
Since the very first book, Connors has captivated me into reading all the lesson books. But this latest book was a disappointment. Ginny was different in a bad way. She lost her attitude and as her adventure continues she seems to be losing the will to continue. I felt Connors captured Ginny's changing attitude but it really brought the book down for me. I hated Nathaniel. He was a douche bag. I ended up not liking the hero of the book that much either. Ginny turned into a complete slutty mess and it just wasn't an enjoyable read. I started getting angry and angrier to the point that I start to skim. By the end I have no desire to go back and read what I skipped over. I really liked Jeremy and was disappointed to find that Connors and ultimately Ginny decided to dump him. I feel like the summary of this book is very deceiving. I was expecting a book where Ginny had to battle a pirate. I imagined her great attitude and ability to tell it like it is and capture the hero of the book. But this book just turned into one big orgie and it was dumb and boring. I will look for the next book in the series because I am still interested in finding out what happens to Ginny but in the future, this book is one to skip in the series.
Ginny in this book is a lot different from the past lessons. She decides to choose her own way, not just go with the flow like the first books. If Corliss' character came back, she would be quite disappointed on the road that Ginny eventually take.
She is a lot promiscuous in this book, sleeping with many men. Her character is a bit rough and untamed, that the supposed to be mega-hunk became turned off with her attitude, and the guy eventually find another. It is quite a shock that she end up with another guy and I felt that the chemistry is forced between her and the new guy. And this is only done because the mega-hunk is now unavailable. Wish that she just end up with Jeremy, because much more Hero qualities possessed the guy than the another one. On the other hand, while Nathaniel has some great bed skills, he is lacking in the attitude area and ended up like a jerk instead of a likable male.
The action scenes at the end is nice, that somehow Ginny contributed with the saving of the damsel in distress. This is the least likable Connors book for me.
What happens when you presume someone is The One, and it turns out s/he clearly isn't? Well, Ginny learns the hard way in this novel that you can't judge a mega-hunk by the book cover. Out of all of these novels, I think this was my least favorite so far in the series because, as I mentioned in the review for the last novel, A Lesson in Friendship, Ginny is too focused on the sex and orgasms. She actually seems to lose depth and reason and maturity in this novel, bouncing back and forth among men without a clear plan. Yes, part of that is the fact that she has been banished from England and is at the mercy of these men, but that very fact negates the sincerity or substantialness of the relationships. How can she begin to think that her "mega-hunk" is actually The One, when she is his captive?
I really enjoyed this latest addition in the lesson series! I like seeing a different more independent Ginny. There was a lot more sex in this book, but it worked with the story. Ginny is really just trying to be adventurous without getting hurt. I still continue to look forward to the next story, and seeing were Ginny will end up next!!
I enjoyed Ginny's adventures with the Royal Navy and pirates. Ginny as a swashbuckling pirate was fun. Wondering who she would end up with was the hook that kept me reading. I didn't think she would end up with who she did, but since she was a physician's assistant in the 21st century, it made sense.

I enjoyed this adventure a great deal. I loved how our heroine didn't wait sound for her hunk to show up to begin enjoying herself. And it was great when she realized that she and her hunk would not make a happily ever after and so she aided him to find his and then she matched with the less hunky guy.
I absolutely LOVED this series! I loved how much history was wrapped up into each book. They are easy reads and I found myself laughing quite a lot!! Great story lines and I can't wait till the next book comes out!
I liked this next incarnation of Ginny, though I didn't connect as strongly with her "mega-hunks" this time around. I guess I am still back in Wyoming!
i did not enjoy this one as much as i did the others in the series. i think the lesson she is suppose to learn is to really love & i felt she did not connect with me this time.
LOVE IT!!!! Ginny said, "Screw it. I'm doing it my way!!"- in this book. She did want she wanted and had fun. And still ended up with the best man for for. I love Spencer!!!! Great Book!!
