"Sometimes I think I am Judy Moody," says Megan McDonald, author of the Judy Moody series, the Stink series, and THE SISTERS CLUB. "I'm certainly moody, like she is. Judy has a strong voice and always speaks up for herself. I like that."

For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an ironworker, was known to his coworkers as "Little Johnny the Storyteller." Every evening at dinner the McDonalds would gather to talk and tell stories, but Megan McDonald was barely able to get a word in edgewise. "I'm told I began to stutter," she says, leading her mother to give her a notebook so she could start "writing things down."

Critically acclaimed, the Judy Moody books have won numerous awards, ranging from a PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Best Book of the Year to an International Reading Association Children's Choice. "Judy has taken on a life of her own," the author notes, with nearly 3 million Judy Moody books in print. Interestingly, the feisty third-grader is highly popular with boys and girls, making for a strong base of fans who are among Megan McDonald's strongest incentives to keep writing, along with "too many ideas and a little chocolate." And now -- by popular demand -- Judy Moody's little brother, Stink, gets his chance to star in his own adventures! Beginning with STINK: THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING KID, three more stories, and his own encyclopedia, STINK-O-PEDIA, Stink's special style comes through loud and strong -- enhanced by a series of comic strips, drawn by Stink himself, which are sprinkled throughout the first book. About the need for a book all about Stink, Megan McDonald says, "Once, while I was visiting a class full of Judy Moody readers, the kids, many with spiked hair à la Judy's little brother, chanted, 'Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink!' as I entered the room. In that moment, I knew that Stink had to have a book all his own."

More recently, Megan McDonald has recalled some of her own childhood with the warmth, humor -- and squabbles -- of three spunky sisters in THE SISTERS CLUB.

Megan McDonald and her husband live in Sebastopol, California, with two dogs, two adopted horses, and fifteen wild turkeys that like to hang out on their back porch.

If I had to limit my review to one word, I would say this book is "cute." It didn't do a whole lot for me, but it was still an enjoyable read. Obviously, I am way out of the intended target group to find much in common with this book, but I can see why my students held it hostage for so long. I haven't been able to read it until now because it was constantly going missing off the book shelf.

Basically, you have three very chumming sisters who wish for something "amazing" to happen on a stormy night. Since the ages vary, the "amazing" thing also varies for each sister. I loved how the youngest sister, Joey, was disgusted by boys. Her wish was to see a rare blue tree frog. Stevie, the middle sister doesn't have a clear idea of what she wants, so she just wants something new and exciting. She doesn't count on that including a new boy that has a crush on her. Alex, the oldest, is already interested in boys and wants to get her first kiss. You can guess what her wish is.

It was pretty straight forward and predictable. I liked the little sketches added in by Joey. They were a funny addition. I also liked the fortune telling sock monkey. Those conversations were pretty funny-- perfect for a tween's sense of humor.

This book fits in well with a 10-12 year old girl's reading. I know for a fact that this particular age group loves this book. I've witnessed that first hand. It was a good, clean book. Two simple (and hilarious) kiss scenes are about as "trashy" as you'll find.

The Sisters Club: Cloudy with a Chance of Boys is the third book in The Sister's Club series, The Sisters Club and The Sisters Club: Rule of Three are the first two. Megan McDonald also writes the The Judy Moody Uber-Awesome Collection: Books 1-9, which I love.

The cover caught my attention because of the background illustrations and doodles. I also like the frogs, the sparkles didn't make a difference.

The illustrations are doodles from the younger sister, Joey's, journal. The doodles are funny. The drawings match what is going on in the story. This book is about boys and how the two sisters, Stevie and Alex, talk about boy problems and how to solve them. Their little sister, Joey, tries to help them but she doesn't like boys.

Stevie is trying to figure out Wire Rims, a boy in her class that likes her. Alex wants to get the part of Juliet so she can kiss Scott, who ends up being Romero. Joey is just weird about Sir-Croaks-Alot.

Alex has plays starring Alex, Joey has journal entries, and Stevie is the main character in the chapters. I can relate to Joey most because she is my age and I'm not into boys. I would definitely recommend this books to girls my age and older. I really loved this book.

This was the 6th book I have read by Megan McDonald in less than two weeks. Each was an excellent read. The Sisters Club books are longer than either the Judy Moody or Stink Moody books. In fact there is a clear progression in length and difficulty of books from Stink, to Judy to Sisters. These stories revolve around a family with three daughters; I grew up the oldest of three boys and now have three children myself. I can only hope that as my children age, and we read these books together, they can learn from the Reel sisters.

This is a fun story in a great series. Two of the girls are starting to get older and with that comes the question of boys, relationships and first kisses.

This is a fun story in a great series. Two of the girls are starting to get older and with that comes the question of boys, relationships and first kisses. The play being put on in school this year is Romeo and Juliette, and Alex wants to play Juliette to Scott Howell's Romeo. But she does not get her wish. Then the play gets moved to the Raven, the town's theatre and second home of the Reel girls. Stevie has a new fascination with weather and specifically clouds, and ends up working on a cloud project for science class with Owen, aka 'Wire Rims', as in his glasses. Joey is still fascinated with frogs and even has a hidden pet frog named Sir Croaks-a-lot.

This is a fun tale well worth reading. Give a Megan McDonald book a try; you will not be disappointed.

I quite enjoyed this series. As the author of the Judy Moody and Stink books, Megan McDonald has already shown her grasp of elementary age children and how they think and act. This third book in the Sisters Club series shows that she grasps equally well the challenges of middle school and the changes that make this time of life so confusing. The format that includes regular chapters (Stevie's point of view), scripts (Alex's point of view), and notes from Joey's notebook (Joey is the youngest of the three sisters). This design allows the reader to see how differently each of the three sisters see the world around them. This book might bring back old middle school memories for some people. Overall, this series provides some light reading for girls who are ready to move beyond the Judy Moody and Junie B. series. The first book in the series is The Sisters Club. Book two is called The Sisters Club: Rule of Three. I would recommend this book to people who like middle school drama books like the Dork Diary series.

Stevie Reel is a 12 year old girl who's disgusted by boys and would rather help her younger sister catch frogs. So, what happens when the new guy at school likes her? Chaos, and lots of it. Her sisters have their own problems to deal like their own crushes. When the new guy comes over and surprises her with a kiss, Stevie is confused and shocked. After a while, she comes to realize that boys can wait and living in the present and spending time with family is way more important.

I picked up this book because the title looked interesting. I finished this book because I wanted to know if Stevie would end up liking Owen, the new guy, or hate him instead.

I would recommend this book to girls around the ages of 10-13 because this is what they would be going through and they can relate to it.

This book was amazing in my opinion. I could connect to everything that happened in this book and remember what happened in an instant. A spectacular novel!

Read this to my brother...he liked it and had a lot of laughs. He wants more of The Sisters Club. I have books 1 & 2 on hold now. :)

As for me, I really liked the book, but it was even better because my brother could share the experience with me. :)

I did not like this book. Stevie was faced with peer pressure from her "best friend" Olivia, who really wasn't all that nice to her. She basically tells Stevie that because their is a boy who talks to her, she has like him. This spirals out of control and Stevie feels lie she's forced to go along with it. Eventually, Owen, the new kid, kisses Stevie with no warning. Obviously, Stevie is shocked, disgusted, scared. She is only 11 or 12, who could blame her? Then Owen stops talking to her. Stevie feels bad and thinks that she needs to apologize to Owen for running away from him. I thought that that was fine, but I expected Owen to jump in and say he was sorry too. He is the person who kissed Stevie without asking if it was O.K. first. But no! That's not at all what happened. Stevie thought that she did something wrong, when, under the circumstances, it was completely respectable! Owen's behavior never gets addressed, as if what he did was perfectly reasonable.
Here is my question to you: Is this really what we should be teaching little girls? Owen crosses a a very personal boundary. We should be teaching girls that they should stick up for themselves. Stevie never should have apologized in the first place.
I really do respect Megan McDonald. I am a big fan of all of her other books and illustrations. I just don't like the the message that this book sends, intentional or not. I meant no disrespect to anyone. I am just sharing an opinion.

This one was my favorite, I enjoyed how Stevie is still the mature on in the family and how all the girls are growing up. I am proud that Alex was mature not to beg for the lead role & ended up having to play a boy. I also like how she is finally treating her sisters with respect even though Stevie got her first kiss.

The book that I read was Cloudy with a Chance of Boys, and the author is Megan McDonald. The story takes place at their house, their are 3 sisters, mom, and dad. The summary of the story is the 3 sisters named Alex who is the oldest,Stevie who is in the middle and Joey who is 2 years younger than Stevie. They are in the house when all of the sudden the power goes out.Mom and Dad went outside and Joey,Alex, and Stevie they all went to go and get some cuddles after they got candles they made a fire with the fire pit, they then decided to have a sisters club so that they can talked each other. They divided that they wanted to make wishes, they all went to their room and got something that they love, then they went back downstairs and they a made a wish and then threw it into the fire pit and that is when everything turned around. The characters are Dad,Mom,Joey,Alex, and Stevie. The Dad helped out with the play. The Mom just helps it with anything needed and works late some times. Stevie who gets a detention for talking durning a assembly. Alex ego quits the play because she didn't get the part as Juliet. And Joey who helps her dad with the equipment for the play and Alex wants her to spy on Scott who plays Romeo and Jayden who plays Juliet. If you like drama you will like this book.

Cloudy with a chance of boys is a really good book. It is about a girl named Alex who has a crush on a boy but doesn't want him to really know about it. The next day she hear's about a play that is going on. She finds out that the play is Romeo and Juliet. She also hear's that the boy she likes is going to audition for the role of Romeo and if she get's the part of Juliet they would get to kiss. So they audition and she finds out that the boy got the part of Romeo but she did not get her part of Juliet and a girl that she does not like got her part. So then Alex got all jealous because the other girl got the part that Alex wanted and Alex got the part of the nurse. Alex didn't want to be the nurse so then she drops out of the play. Then she finds out that the boy actually has a crush on her and she heard that someone got a broken ankle and there is a part open now. It is a boy part so Alex does not know if she wants it but the boy convinced her to do it. And she got that part. Then after a while in the book they both know they like each other and they live happily ever after. My favorite character in the book is Alex because she is sorta like me but yet she is not. She is kinda like me because she likes a boy and wants him to know and will do anything to get him and stuff like that. She isn't like me though because she is like sabotaging the person who is playing Juliet just because she likes the boy, and I would not do that. So thank you for reading my review of Cloudy With A Chance of Boys I hope this review makes you want to read it.

Three sisters wish upon a fire on a stormy night, and experience varying stages of adolescence alongside their sisters. The middle sister in early junior high primarily narrates the story, with interludes from the other two sisters. These note book scribblings and script-styled dialogue jut into the narrative, and whether a reader will appreciate them is a matter of personal taste. While some may find interludes about fortune telling or spy codes fun or cool, they help elongate a light tween read into a book rather long for its content. Still, the characters are ones the reading audience can relate to, and their varying ages allows different aged readers to associate themselves with different sister’s opinions throughout the book. Also, the problems these characters face are relevant to a tween audience, such as working on a science project with a boy or not getting the lead in the school play. This is mostly a first crush and first kiss story, which may be somewhat premature for some but on-topic for others. Also included in this book are numerous Shakespeare references, some of which are not appropriate for elementary school children unfamiliar with the great playwright. This chapter book is recommended for a female tween audience ages nine to eleven.

This design allows the reader to see how differently each of the three sisters see the world around them and their various experiences. Having several sisters myself I found I could easily relate to Stevie and her sisters and the ups and downs of their relationships. It also brought back memories of my own middle school experiences, which I would not want to relive for anything (shudder, shudder).

Overall, this series provides some light reading for girls who are ready to move beyond the Judy Moody and Junie B. series. The first book in the series is The Sisters Club. Book two is called The Sisters Club: Rule of Three.

Dear Ms. Greenhouse,

I got this book from the book fair. It is called Cloudy With a Chance of Boys by Megan McDonald. It is about a girl Stevie Reel. She is a middle sister out of three siblings. She doesn't know much about boys and for her she is ok with that. But ever since she's gotten older things are changing at school. People are starting to get in relationships. A boy named Owen in her Earth Science class seems to keep looking at her. The thing is Stevie doesn't really want a boyfriend. Her sisters know about boys. They are no help.

Sincerely,
Arielle PS. This is for 2/27/12 and 2/28/12

Dear Ms. Greenhouse,

I would compare this book to Absolutely Normal Chaos. It is the same type of book. They are both realistic fiction. These types of situations happen in real life. In the other book the girl is going through things with boys. They are also around the same age.

Sincerely,
Arielle
