If you like true crime or "cop shows," this is a book you can dig into.

In his first book, Jim Disser, who had an extensive career in law enforcement in Michigan, including SWAT and as an undercover agent, gives you an inside look at many stories that he experienced.

Putting yourself in his position, imagining the threat, the potential and or real violence you face in each scenario, and just the reality of having to try and be a normal person, husband and father once your shift is done, I believe, is the "wow" factor in Disser's book.

Disser provides a detailed account of a few of the most climatic events he was a part of in his 31-year career in law enforcement. It is a book you can easily read front to back in one sitting or be able to read a bit and put it down and come back to it later with no problem.

I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes description of some of Disser's most impactful stories, and really came away with more of an appreciation of what people in law enforcement do and what they're faced with every day on the job.

I didn't find this book all that interesting, perhaps because I also worked the streets for over 31 years and lived the same stories.
Having said that, Disser offers a real look into the types of calls and crimes that police officers face on a daily basis.
As an author, I think this former cop fell into the same trap I did with my first book, telling his tales as if writing a police report, without much emotion. Not that the individual stories weren't inciteful for most people, they just lacked enough feeling to drag readers into the events he related.
For anyone who wants a real-life account of what happens during a variety of police investigations, this book is a good example.

Just finished this excellent book written by longtime officer Jim Disser, who served as a police officer for 31 years in Macomb County. Reading the book, I felt as if I was having a beer with Officer Disser and his fellow officers after they had closed another crime scene and were talking shop over beers. The book covers #truecrime stories spanning the many years of Officer Disser’s career in Port Huron, Marysville, and the general metropolitan Detroit area. Thanks Officer Disser for your service, and for this excellent book.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who is into law enforcement, or anyone who wants to learn more about their experience within said field. Disser provided a lot of insight into his career as a decorated police officer, bouncing around from different departments and even participating in specialized task forces.

This was a wonderful book! Partly because I grew up in the area Jim writes about and partly because it’s a great depiction of a day in the life of a police officer. Knowing that every day is like going into work with endless possibilities. This book was an easy read and kept my interest!

Enjoyed reading about an officer who patrolled in "the Clem". Even knew some of the people in the book!

Clear, well-written, and follows a chronological order which is helpful. Nice work.
