Warrior Servants are those who choose to serve in professions that require great discipline, loyalty, and drive. They come when they are called. They suit up and show up when they are needed. Mental health for Warrior Servants has traditionally been addressed the same way.
The first problem with this approach is mental and emotional injuries aren't very noticeable until they start causing harm to the Warrior Servant in the form of addiction, divorce, suicidal ideation, and chronic traumatic stress. The second problem with this approach to mental health is it assumes that people need fixing. Having had the opportunity over my 4 years in wildland fire to have Dr. Steve come and speak about everything in this book, I think that lowered the overall score. It was all 1 for 1 everything he would talk about when he came to speak to us. Great knowledge on mental health for people in positions where it’s “weak” to talk about.

I went into this read knowing it was focused on first responders but what I didn’t expect was how I could attribute every message of the book into different faucets of my life; my career, my losses, my fears, my relationships, my cynicism, my hope, and my dreams. Great read, and I will absolutely be encouraging others to read as well.
