A suit-wearing ogre is pretending to be my boyfriend, and I think I’m falling in love.

After being ousted from my small town by an underhanded wedding planner who is also now my ex, I moved to Monsterville for a fresh start. There, I find myself in direct competition with the hottest ogre in town, Raze. He’s too cocky and snobby for his own good, and he wears designer suits and ties all the time. I sometimes wonder if he wears them to bed.

When my ex shows up in Monsterville, determined to win me back, Raze steps in, offering to pretend he’s my boyfriend and business partner. Only when my ex tries to outbid me on a royal fae wedding do I agree. With our combined forces, Raze and I will win the job and send my ex packing.

The more time I spend with Raze, however, the more I wish he was my real boyfriend. Can I convince him that an ogre and a human are the perfect monster match?

Uptown Ogre is set in the Monsterville, USA Series. Each book is standalone and is best if read in order (see below). Expect romantic hijinks with monsters, heat, and a happily ever after.

Well now. Raze and Elisa, who sort of butted heads during the weekend wedding festivities, are up and they don't do things easily. Well, actually, they do SOME things easily. It's almost like when they get out of their own way and don't overthink THINGS HAPPEN. Sexy things. Which these two need.

So. Raze and Elisa. He's a kind of uptight ogre (or at least he seems kind of uptight) and she's a human. They both do wedding planning. They both have a little baggage they need to work through. To be fair, Elisa's baggage comes in the form of her ex and she's been pretty clear that she's NOT interested in being with him in any way, shape, or form, so she's worked on her baggage. It's just that said ex isn't taking no for an answer. Which is not cool, slimy ex. Not cool at all.

In other words, Elisa needs a little outside intervention to keep her ex from getting truly creepy.

Raze, on the other hand, has a lot of internalized familial issues he needs to deal with. Which he does. It just takes a little prodding from his mom and a few spell components for him to stop the little voice in his head telling him what he can and can't do.

Familiar faces, tantalizing hints about a certain demon sheriff and his lost lady love, a very persistent ex who needs to learn that no means no, a matchmaking agency that makes our heroine blush, an ogre who learned some hard lessons as a child, and a human lady who enjoys getting down and dirty with the sexy ogre across the hall. OH, YEAH.

💛 “She would remain in my heart through this lifetime and beyond.”
~~~
Elisa is a delight! She’s such a sweet and kind woman. Even more, she’s brave, smart and so feisty. And she’s so good as a wedding planner. I loved her so, so much!
And then we have Raze! At first, he might appear stoic, unwelcoming and arrogant, but the suit-wearing ogre is anything but that. Raze is so sweet, patient, kind, understanding and absolutely wonderful. And he might be more than just a wedding planner. I couldn’t help but adore everything about him!
I loved everything that happened between Elisa and Raze! Both came to Monsterville to start over albeit for quite different reasons. And from the moment they met, they’ve been rivals as both were in the wedding planning business. And since then, Elisa’s had a crush on Raze. And the fearsome ogre has not been indifferent towards her, either. So, when they combine forces in a bidding for the fae royal wedding, things heat up really fast. I loved those two together! Their banters and teasing were so much fun to read. And I loved how Elisa challenged Raze and helped him relax and just to be himself. Raze was a bit hot and cold at moments but I loved that he quickly came to his senses and realized that true happiness is right in front of him. Even more, when Elisa’s ex comes into town, Raze proves once again that monsters are better than human men in every way. And when those two couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot and I couldn’t get enough. Please, someone just show me the way to Monsterville!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! I loved that we got the chance to dive into the wedding planning business in a town full of monsters. Even more, I absolutely adored Raze’s mother and Grannie Vi for giving Raze and Elisa the nudge to make everything happen. And I loved all their friends for being there and helping them in their unconventional plan to deal with Elisa’s ex. That’s what true friends do. Aaaand… can we just talk about Daddy Demon?! *cough* I mean, Sheriff Venom.
Overall, the story is another wonderful, fun, steamy and heartwarming addition to the series! And I absolutely loved it!
I breezed through a lot of these short cozy monster romances since I was going through a pretty stressful time in the real world and these were quick little escapes. I was interested to see how these rivals handled working together and falling for each other inevitably haha. I also wanted to see more cameos from some of our favorite couples and families from earlier on in the series.
I didnt connect with this story as much as I would have hoped. It was ok, but would be in the bottom half of the books in the series to be honest. I don't know if I didnt feel the chemistry between these two like I did in the previous book where they had to work together on stuff for the wedding festivities but I just didnt feel it for awhile in the story and since these aren't super long I couldn't give this one 5 stars like I have some of the others (or some of the ones I have finished but not reviewed yet haha).
I thought the audio was good, I do wish the author would have changed up the narrators for a couple of these or rotated them around so it wasn't the same voices doing all of them. I think once the chemistry really hit and the characters finally let things happen ahaha, it was on point (which is why I still gave it 4 stars). There were some great funny moments with our demon sheriff and some of the other quandaries our couple got themselves in haha. I felt for Raze's restrictions/issues but I felt the unrequited crush so hard for Elisa (once Raze got the stick out of you know where haha). I hated her ex and all the obstacles thrown at them, but loved seeing them work together, their friends and family help out, and seeing them finally get their HEA.
Definitely would still recommend reading/listening to these in order, it helps build up this great world the author has created.
SPOILERSSSSSS <3
This book was a little better than the last few in terms of relationship building. There was tension and rivalry between Raze and Elisa that ramped up all throughout their interactions. I loved seeing Raze let go of all the rules that his Dad put on him and be able to open up and let go, and wears shorts, lol.
I am not a fan of the shitty stalker ex boyfriend trope, but I know that it is put into place in order to steer the relationship. I just wish it wouldn't be necessary. It feels like each book has this flimsy "bad guy" plot point intended to disrupt the budding romance or push the characters closer together, but I would rather read about two characters falling in love without the pressure of a psycho stalking ex in the picture.
It was enough that he was the reason she was forced to flee and open up her business in the same town as Raze's own wedding planning business. I would have loved to read more about an enemies to lovers rivalry between the two that ended up in their HEA than having the stalker ex be what brought them together.
Just finished this one and diving into the next in a few mins. I am enjoying the stories, and I don't believe they are bad, but they leave a lot to be desired in terms of details and interactions between characters. Regardless, I'm going to finish them all bc I can't pass up steamy monsters. :P
He loves me; he loves me not…
I would have given this story five stars, except for one thing that bothered me.
Make that two things.
The first was Raze constantly sending mixed messages to Elisa. That got old fast. She had been attracted to him almost immediately, and he kept pushing her away.
The second thing was how at the beginning he said she wasn’t anything special in the looks department, then later, he decided she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever met.
There was way too much “wishy washy” with Raze!
Having said that, I still enjoyed the book a lot. Many of Raze’s issues were explained by a father who was over controlling to the point of being abusive.
Fortunately, he had a great mom who adored him, which helped a lot.
I enjoyed watching Raze open up and blossom with the attention and encouragement of Elisa!
I love all the relationships the characters have with friends, most of their family, and the community! It’s fun to follow the different characters and enjoy them finding the love of their lives!
While you can read these in any order, they make more sense read in order.
Note: These stories contain explicit sex, sexual language, situations, and some blue words.
They are definitely meant for mature readers!
There is just something about Ava Ross' characters, most especially those of Monsterville. I don't know if it is the writing, the way the stories unfold, the world-building or the dialogue but her books are just magic.
Elisa is determined to start afresh, wipe the slate clean and be true to herself. Not she wasn't true to herself in the past but after the fiasco with her ex, it needs to be more at the forefront. For all she has confidence in she skills she doesn't have much confidence in herself. She admires Raze from afar, and in some cases close up, but believes that he would not be someone like her. All unknownst to her, but knownst to us, Raze is feeling the same way about Elisa. He is also on a path of a new leaf but for very different reasons. While he may be an ogre he is also kind, compassionate and caring. Though he was a professional rival to Elisa he was not someone who would sabotage anyone else. When her ex comes in just looking to make trouble, he is a whole other person to contend with.
I wish I could live there...
This book is part of an awesome series of interconnected standalones. They are best enjoyed read in order, as you see the main characters of previous books play significant roles as secondary characters, and its nice to know their backstorries.
I loved this book! I already liked Elisa and Raze from Whose Bed Have Your Claws Been Under, and they were delightful in their own book! I enjoyed how quickly the relationship evolved, thanks in part to the ogre mating frenzy, and in part with how open Elisa and Raze were with each other. There were some things unsaid at first, of course, but no miscommunication. And I love this series because we get to see fave characters from before! I've loved Venom since the first time we met him, and I was so happy he was in Uptown Ogre! I can't wait to read his own book (which I've already pre-ordered!).
I strongly recommend this book and the whole series for fans of PNR romance! The whole world is fantastic and the characters so lovable! You'll enjoy reading about this diverse group of friends...
Solid 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Again… another book that solidifies how much I love the Monsterville, USA universe of stories. I have loved the previous books in this series, but this one is beyond my favorite! I absolutely adored our suite-wearing ogre Hero & our strong and determined heroine. To me they are the perfect pairing. Raze is a definite add to my Monster Book Boyfriend list! Ava has given us yet another feel-good monster romance that is truly heart-warming to read. I seriously want to beg and plead for a dozen more epilogues to this one. I could go on and on about it… but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone out there. So… PLEASE, take my advice and (run… don’t walk) read it for yourself.
Elisa moved to Monsterville to get away from Harris, her stalker ex. She and Raze are both wedding planners with competing businesses. When Harris tries to under-bid a royal wedding both mcs want, they decide to work together. Then Harris steps up his harassment and tries to get physical. Elisa has awoken the ogre frenzy in Raze, and seeing Harris put his hands on her almost sets him off. Can they stop Harris, work together, and turn this fake date into areal forever?
Maybe I missed it, but did they get the winning bid on the fae wedding? And what is Venom's story?! For a reoccurring side character, I'm way too invested.
This is the story of two beings, each starting over for different reasons. Elisa is running from a controlling, stalkerish Ex while Raze is an Ogre who is starting his life in the human realm for political reasons. Insanely attracted to each other, both thinks the other could never accept someone outside of their own species. A couple of hot moments has Raze running for this hills to slow the bonding process of his mating frenzy. But Elisa sees the sweet man behind the stuffy ogre who presents himself to the world and won’t back down. Enter stage left, the stalkers comes to town and it’s up to Raze to protect the little human he’s fallen so hard for. I loved it and this couple. I received an ARC and purchased a copy as well.
Monsterville - where the monsters are good and a few humans are bad. Elisa was run out of her Wedding planner business by her ex. She moved to Monsterville and opened up her dream store, but her ex followed and started threatening.
Raze is a stiff, suit wearing wedding planner and has his business across the hall. They have worked on a recent weather together and continue to question their feelings for each other.
Ava has developed wonderful characters in her previous stories and brings them in to help our main characters. Her locations are so well done. She stirs in humor, threats, angst, plot twists and amazing steam. I enjoyed going back to Monsterville.
I have been looking forward to Elisa’s and Raze’s story since we saw them in the previous book. I love that we get to reconnect with the previous characters throughout the series, and continue to get updates on their HEA.
Raze and Elisa had so much chemistry between them even though they both tried to deny it. Both had past experiences that made it hard for them to be vulnerable with each other. When Elisa’s past comes calling she will need Raze’s help. Can Elisa and Raze work together to triumph over her past or will their differences prove to be too much? Can Elisa and Raze find their own HEA?
I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next one!
I love that in previous books, you get to hear a bit about one or both of the characters in the new book. Something about a book series always makes me happy. In Uptown Ogre, you meet Elisa and Raze. They are wedding planners and have worked together on a friend/cousin's wedding. There was a lot of turmoil between these two, but little buds of feelings started to sprout. In this book, they find out that they can't keep their hands off each other. Then the EX from hell comes back to try and get Elisa back, and she is having nothing of it, and Raze is right there behind her. This book was such a wonderful read!
Uptown Ogre
Elisa is in a new town having been usurped from her business by her conniving and controlling ex. She has set up a new business and is trying to increase her clientele. Raze and his machinations when she first moved there was trying to make her leave. But as there was more than enough business for both of them to thrive she withstood his assault. Elisa also found his rudeness and grumpiness attractive in many ways. Her domineering and increasingly violent ex has found her. Raze decides to step in. A sensual story of friendships and familial relationships and love acknowledged.
"She would remain in my heart through this lifetime and beyond." My favorite line from the book! I love this book so much. Raze is awesome, an ogre with such a sweet soul. But I adore Elisa! She's strong but sweet. She's funny and smart. I enjoyed the glimpse we had of them
In Whose Bed Have Your Claws Been Under. I wasn't sure I was going to like either of them very much but oh my was I wrong! And Raze's mom! I love his mom so much! Here's what feel you need to know...Ava Ross is a Master at her craft. Her world building is spectacular. Her characters are some of the best out there. Her storylines keep you glued to the page. This book is well written. 5+ Stars
Steamy Indeed
Raze and Elisa own competing wedding planning businesses. With a Royal fey wedding coming up, they join forces against an outside planner seeking to outbid them. They also agree to put aside their differences, especially as the outsider is Elisa’s ex, who single handedly destroyed her previous business and now wants to reclaim her. Raze has a serious interest in preventing that. This was a fun one, especially when characters from previous books make more than appearances in this one!
This was such a fun addition to the series and I loved how it unfolded. Raze and Elisa were fab characters with an entertaining banter between them. They took the unique idea of fake dating to help Elisa finally get rid of her slimy ex. So yes, what started off as fake, soon enough, and with a little help, became a heartwarming and steamy romance ;D I'm really enjoying this series of monster romances. They move at a great pace and have a wonderful storyline that keeps me coming back for more. Good fun!
Elisa and Raze met when they were co-wedding planners for Raze’s cousin and Elisa’s friend. Sparks flew, and I couldn’t wait for them to get a book of their own! These two were attracted to each other, but Raze had to overcome his deceased father’s edicts before they could be together. That doesn’t mean Raze’s willpower didn’t fail spectacularly on occasion! This couple had a bunch of obstacles to overcome to get that HEA, but with the help of some familiar friends, they eventually got there! Definitely can’t wait to read the next book in this series! They are just so much fun to read!
From the first introduction,these two are hot for each other. Raze is an uptight suit wearing ogre and Elisa is a woman running from Harris, Elisa's ez, that is bound and determined to get her back.
Once the string holding back Raze's impulses, his ogre frenzy, nothing but good things happen...well for everybody but Harris.
This book from page one keeps you enganged and has some funny moments that not only make you laugh but you laugh outloud.
Ava has talent but her imagination in writing makes you be apart of the crew as they grow, develop and become family.
Yet Another Great Read from Ava Ross
Ava Ross’s Monsterville series are auto buys for me. This was yet another awesome installment. The chemistry that Raze tries to fight beats him. There were several laugh out loud moments where I may have snorted. The scene when Venom pulls Paige, Raze, and Darrow over was awesome. I loved the inner issues the characters had to overcome to find there HEA. The pacing is fast and the pages fly by. The sex scenes are steamy and get your heart rate elevated. An absolute pleasure to read!
Uptown Ogre by Ava Ross is a another wonderfully written romance with a HEA in Ava’s Monsterville. We met both Raze, out suit wearing ogre and our human heroine, Elisa in the previous story as dueling co-wedding planners. Once these two come together, they are sweet and steamy! As always, there is so much laughter and romance in Ava’s stories – I highly recommend this (or any set in Monsterville)!
With how our ogre behaves, it’s like he is dancing the cha: one step forward, one step back, repeat. 😂. It’s a wonder our FMC never gave up on her. But we soon know the reason for his stiffness and his solution.
The story first focuses on our MMC and their growing relationship and then on her ex who is obsessed with her. We get to meet again some residents of Monsterville and get to witness a hilarious man-napping.
“I want a real daughter. Maybe have a pretend engagement followed by a pretend wedding only really take her to bed."
Raze and Elisa are rival wedding planners trying to figure out if Monsterville is big enough for the both of them, especially when they have more than work in mind.
This done in one stand alone Kindle Unlimited book brings in characters from previous stories, and has both Elisa and Raze facing the specter of people they thought were part of their past, not their present.
This is a sweet romance where Elisa and Raze start out as competitors in the wedding planning business then they work together on a friend's wedding. Neither of them knew they were attracted to each other but it all comes together as they work as one. Then Elisa's ex comes into the picture, harassing her so Elisa, Raze and friends take care of that issue. Finally, after taking care of that issue and Raze's mother approves of Elisa, they find their happily ever after.
Who wouldn't want to live in Monsterville? All of the townspeople whether they're human or otherwise have impeccable tastes when it comes to finding that special someone. Of course when our ogre is dressed to the nines doesn't hurt.
Granny Vi and Chickpea just add to this sweet, sexy story. A few predictions pop up on possible future romances......which leave you wanting more.
