Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition

Arks of Omen: Farsight

Rate this book
At the end of a long and bloody road, the armies of the Farsight Enclaves stand poised to secure final victory over the Ork hordes. As Commander Farsight's audacious attack reaches a critical stage, an Ark of Omen and its attendant Balefleet erupt from the warp to shatter the balance of the conflict.

Thrown into a desperate fight for survival amidst a furious three-way war, the T'au are driven to take desperate measures. Their fighting retreat sees them forced to make planetfall on a world that O'Shovah vowed never to set foot upon again. With all other options exhausted, and foes closing in on all sides, the T'au begin a hit-and-run battle amongst the lifeless wastes and eerie ruins of Arthas Moloch itself.

Entangled by the galactic machinations of Vashtorr the Arkifane and his unholy servants, overrun by bellowing greenskin hordes and threatened by dark and insidious powers from beyond the veil, O’Shovah may face his final doom. Will aid reach him in time? Will the servants of the Dark Gods secure their diabolical prize? Or will this conflict reach an altogether darker and stranger end?

In this 104-page hardback book, you'll find:

– The ongoing narrative of Warhammer 40,000, with galaxy-shaking implications for the T’au
– An inspiring showcase of photography and battle scenes, featuring the armies fighting on Arthas Moloch

4/5 stars. My first ever look into Farsight's psyche. It's a bit too shonen manga-like, but still pretty good, I'm now interested in reading more about the Tau as a faction to boot.

The penultimate Arks of Omen focuses on Commander Farsight, and his war against the Orks. The lore section of this book is quite interesting as it doesn’t really focus on the overarching plot of the Arks of Omen campaign much, relegating it to a B Plot. Instead, this book’s story deals with Commander Farsight battle the forces of the Bad Moon Warlord Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub while also facing his daemons on Arthas Moloch, the world where his rebellion started. While I feel like this is a bit of an odd choice, I don’t mind it myself as Nazdreg is one of my favourite Ork characters, so it is good to see him. It is also good to see Farsight himself get a little more development for his personal story, as well as a look at how the T’au Empire see him and his enclaves. As always, the art in the book is great, especially the little pieces between paragraphs showing T’au turned into twisted abominations.

With much of this book’s lore focused on planet-side battles, the Boarding Action rules half of this book mostly focus on multiplayer rules and scenarios and Dark Depths games what use a semi-random map. Both of these styles of play seem relatively easy to use and fun to play. There are also faction specific Boarding Action rules for the T’au Empire, Aeldari and Adepta Sororitas that are on a par with previous faction specific rules.
