Jo needs to make some friends if she wants to survive. Even those of the category-eleven variety. And as she discovers rare creatures, participates in intimidating witch ceremonies, finagles pesky ghosts, and settles gang disputes, she sees sides of Beckett Dixon that prove how dangerous he could truly be to her.
Some people are made to stand strong in the face of danger…
Those people get a lot of trouble and attention. Two things I would happily do without. I live my life on the run for a I’m safe when no one knows my life story. I have enough to deal with keeping off the radar of the witch hunting organization I used to work for.
But when my nemesis shows up asking for help to save one person we both love, running isn’t an option.
Beckett and I have a bond that neither of us understands, much less appreciates, and the man is impossible around me, but if I don’t work with him, I might lose everything I hold dear.
Can we put aside our differences to save his brother? What about when my own life is on the line?
Shattering Solitude is book two in the Bringing Home the Chaos Series, and while it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, the ending is very much in the air. Guaranteed Happily Ever After, but it will take a while to get there. This is a slow burn, urban paranormal romance, with lots of snark and wit, fast-paced action, and a heroine that isn’t afraid to drop a four-letter word or violently defend herself and her friends. If you love Annette Marie, K.F. Breene, or Ilona Andrews, this is right up your alley. Intended for ages 18 years and older.
Phew, these books are fast-paced and I love it! The author has created characters with SO much freaking depth it’s amazing, and the balancing act the author has to perform to keep some of the more antagonistic characters human, redeemable, and complicated rather than flat and hatable is impressive. The descriptions of the places and surroundings aren’t overly lengthy, but still somehow complete and the words make you feel what Jo feels- nostalgia, a warm summer’s walk, the lonely stillness of an empty home… you can feel ALL of it.
And what a MC! love Jo and her sass, strength, and quirkiness.
My complaint is…. slow burn??? This is a SLOW burn!! I love how the layers are being built and I know it’s going to be worth it but… in addition, I thought we’d see more come to light in the overall picture, but the subplots, as you might call them, are riveting and totally worth it. I’m seeing that this could pan out to be a five or six book series which would be AMAZING.
This is a good story. It’s just so overly repetitive. The character is well written, but you get so much backstory one unimportant characters. It gets tedious to read after a while not to mention the different perspectives just repeating what each person went through. We don’t need that.
I would like to know more about the magic the world and even character development however there’s just preciously little of it. It isn’t until the end that they start to bring back in elements from the first book, but even those aren’t overly relevant this book dealt with her joining a coven. And then micro possession by ghost, which really had no importance to anything, but showing that mail main character was developing some kind of feelings, like I said tedious.
This is action-packed and fast-paced. A lot goes on. Jo helps the coven again and gains the others' trust more. Pit ball gets more help, too. The coven wants Jo in, and Jo has a lot to think about. The tables turn, and Jo needs the help, and it's surprising who is actually fighting her corner. The writing is right up my street, and I enjoyed the book loads and would recommend it if snarky witches are your thing too!
I loved this book even more than the first if that is possible. The characters are becoming a little clearer and I just love Jo's voice, I'd love her as my friend and the vibe she is beginning to get with the coven and how we are founding out more about her past. The relationship with Beckett is clearly on a slow burn trajectory and I am very much here for it. Their dialogue sparkles and I read this pretty much in one sitting. So glad I can binger on 2 more.
Found book one through a random recommendation and read it in a couple of days. I was so excited to find book two immediately available. Well-written with an amazing heroine. She's strong and competent but full of chaos and anxiety. I'm really enjoying this series!
This is my new favorite series! I love everything about it. Such a unique take on witches. Such an interesting setting. Who thought a barren desert with unbearable temperatures could provide such an appropriate setting? Absolutely love the MCs and their poignant dilemma. Love all the other characters, the story arc and the most excellent writing! Did I mention I love this series?!?
Getting frustrated with this one. But I’m still curious about the whole backstory which is what’s got me reaching for the next one. But Jo? She’s annoying at best. And Beck is…well, I’d have walked away from ANY of that years ago if it was me!
Plus her and Annie? They’re also juvenile and ridiculous. These people don’t act like mid- to late- 20s. They act like they’re still in high school.
