Having the support of his family means everything to Haji Abimbola. Leaving his home of Freetown, Sierra Leone to further his education, he travels to the United States… Southeast Texas to be exact… to study chemical engineering. It seemed he could never please his father, but in a quest to prove that he is capable of great things and that he deserves his father’s honor, Haji excels in his field of study. After several major accomplishments and still not having the approval he longs for, he ends his quest and chooses to continue living life on his terms.

Chinara Nwachucku has struck out on love and hasn’t given a man a second thought in five years. Journeying to the United States, she sets out to make a successful life for herself to help her family back home in Nigeria, but it’s taking much longer than she anticipated. It seems when she takes one step, she’s knocked back two. Being laid off from her job is the blow that brings her to her knees. Not being able to afford her current lifestyle, she hits the ground running in search of a job to regain a steady income. As if her life isn’t stressful enough, she catches the attention of a man that seems to be the type to only want one thing. While her interest is piqued because Haji, is attractive, she feels that he will only be a complication in her life.

Both Haji and Chinara experience trying times personally, and their struggles bring them across one another’s paths once again. Haji believes that in order to make it through those struggles, they have to do it together. Will he be able to convince Chinara of this fact, or will it fall on deaf ears?

Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.

Not for me.
I appreciate this book is multiracial but I couldn't get into the writing style.
She a fine m*******,” I said to my friend, Jarius.
“Hell yeah. You gon’ holla?”
“Naw. Not today. I met this woman earlier, so I wanna see what she talking ’bout first.”
“What if you don’t see her again, n*****?”

I was motor oil black when I got here. That shit didn’t matter, though. They loved my height of six-feet-three inches and, not to mention, all this African d*** I was slanging. Just like guys talked about their conquest, so did the ladies.

I just couldn't get into it at all.

This was quite the steamy little love story….When Haji saw Chinara around the city, he fell in love with her beauty. Chinara had a lot going on and hit a rough patch in her life, but it was Haji to the rescue….although, Chinara was reluctant to allow him to help….Finally setting her pride aside, she allowed this man to help her with no strings, and in return she assisted him with something and the two fell hard for each other. This was a very steamy story, but it was a story of love.

2.5 Stars.

It’s not that this was bad per se. It was okay actually. I mean there was quite a bit of casual misogyny from the male characters and Haji wasn’t always the most likable person but overall it was a sexy and satisfying romance. My main issue with it was the cultural elements that had to do with being African. It was quite unrealistic and being African myself, and indeed very familiar with the contexts and with moving to the US as a student and the dynamics of relocating and trying to relocate family, the whole thing was not at all reflective of the way things go. The mish-mosh of African cultures with kente (from Ghana) featuring prominently in Nigerian and Sierra Leonean fashion or with Chinara having an Igbo name but defaulting to speak Yoruba in moments of passion, and Yoruba being referred to as her native language. I mean as an insider, it was hard to overlook because it just wasn’t realistic. But again that might have been the author’s intention to create an alternative Wakanda mish-mash fantasy of West African culture. There was just a lot of suspension of disbelief for me.

That said, in fairness, once I could suspend disbelief, and just get past how annoying Haji was at the beginning (he was definitely giving Igwe 2Pac vibes), this was okay. I liked Chinara- I just wished she’d had a bit more agency… and maybe some friends of her own. Her situation with her being in America and wanting to help her family back home was very realistic (one of the few things in this book that was) and I had a lot of empathy for her.

This wasn’t horrible but it’s not my favourite from this author.

Really enjoyed this story. It really made me wish for Pretty Black skin because I swooned every single time Haji called Chinara by that pet name.
I listened to this on audio and I enjoyed it so much I downloaded the e copy to read. It moved fast paced, but not so much that the story didn't make sense. It was funny, down to earth relatable and the dialogue was realistic.
And the spice was #chefskiss.

I loved this book so much. Hija was a stand up guy. He saw Chinara was going through a tough time and he gave her the help she needed. It didn’t take long feelings to develop. This was such a good story. I enjoyed the relationship Chinara had with her family. Hija treated her family as his own. He was able to heal the relationship with his own family. And this book was so steamy and spicy🌶️ Definitely going down as a favorite for the year.

A marriage of convenience between two people who fell for each other almost from the get go. He did have sex with another woman after meeting her, but not after they started sleeping together.

✨Book Review✨

👏🏾👏🏾 Wow! Monica absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one! I can’t contain my excitement because the Marriage of Convenience trope is my all-time favorite, and let me tell you, *Marry Me Twice* did not disappoint!

We dive into the captivating story of Haji Abimbola, a dynamic chemical engineer thriving in Southeast Texas but originally hailing from Sierra Leone. He came to the States with dreams of a brighter future and to make his family proud. But when the reception from his family—especially his father—falls flat, Haji decides it's time to stop chasing validation. Instead, he immerses himself in American culture and finds himself irresistibly drawn to its women!

Enter Chinara Nwachucku, a determined woman caught between her aspirations and tough circumstances. Living in Texas and striving for a better life for herself and her family back in Nigeria, she’s laser-focused on her goals. After a disastrous relationship a few years back, Chinara has sworn off dating, believing it’s a distraction she can’t afford. But just when she thinks she’s gaining traction, life throws her a curveball—she loses her job and worries about keeping a roof over her head. Enter Haji, the very man she suspects only wants one thing. Little does she know, he’s about to turn her world upside down—in the best way possible!

Whew! These two have ignited all the feels! 🥰🥵 Haji is all about his Beautiful Black Doll! The way he adores Chinara is nothing short of magical. From the moment he spots her in the grocery store struggling to pay for her groceries, he knows he has to step in and lighten her load. And that’s just the beginning of their incredible journey together! Get ready for a whirlwind of emotions as their story unfolds! 🌟

Some of my favorite moments:
1. Haji outside that bedroom while Chinara was in the room. 🥵🥵
2. Their communication 👏🏾👏🏾
3. Haji not allowing anyone to call her HIS nickname
4. The sense of family and culture 👏🏾👏🏾

Great Read!!!

This was such a good read. Who would have know that a temporary agreement would turn into forever. I think Haji and Chinara were a cute couple. Haji was definitely book bae and I’m glad he stepped up and helped Chinara even when she was too stubborn to accept it. I’m also glad that Haji’s dad made amends with him even in death, and he reconciled with his adopted brother Kevin. This was a great read.

This book was so amazing. I really wish it was a trilogy or something that’s how much I enjoyed the characters. But the ending was still perfect.

WOWWW. It also took me so long to finish this book because I kept looking up/listening to the songs mentioned and so I definitely added that Apple Music playlist to go along with this novel.

This was a masterpiece... I know the author said that it was the type of story where the characters fall in love very quickly. And yes that’s true but the story was written in such a way that it genuinely didn’t even feel like that, those two were meant for each other in every single way possible, despite the unconventional way they got together.

5/5 stars and this book is definitely one that I’ll probably re read down the line.

Oh, Miss Monica! Another masterpiece you have crafted hunty! This story was so different, but in a amazing way! Poor Chinara, was really down on her luck, but was not willing to sacrifice her integrity to anyone, especially a man she didn't know. Who know what kinds of things he would expect in return for his help. Haji, really was a nice guy wanting to get to know this "pretty black doll", but she was headstrong, and deep down he loved it. 😀 They way they came to be was so unconventional, but the chemistry was already there. It took no time for the heat to turn up, and the love to bloom. I so loved them together! Another great read! 👍👍👍

This joint right here was so hot, the pages were burning! Haji is the man! I’ve been so engrossed in Nigerian, Ghanaian and South African culture for the past four months that this book felt like I was at home. I love how our heritage was on full display. I love how proud they were of their deep melanin skin. The cherry on top was the freak nasty stuff Haji did to Chinara. Let me go fan myself! Thinking about it got me hot!

This is a weird book to review. I thought the first couple chapters were really cool and inviting. I rarely see books where the guy is from an African country and the girl is from another different African country. That alone earned me whispering sweet out loud to myself as I read the description. But then had to drag myself through basically 100 pages. That’s half the book so...

I want to give it two stars but I’m going to give it three because I’m aware that being committed to intersectional feminism does not nullify my whiteness and some of my issues with this book might be due to cultural gaps. Reading a lot of black love stories does not fix this by itself. I do feel not everything I have a problem with or dislike in this book comes down to that reasoning. Oh and the language formatting was fine. Perfectly readable. That’s not what I’m addressing above.

I could not stand Haji. I really thought I would root for him but then he took a hard turn and never recovered.

A lot of the sex did not do it for me sadly. It got hot, I just know I’ll never specifically reach back to reread those scenes.

I hate the lack of discussion when dealing with the two jealousy plots. Mid-sex both times? Why?!! The beginning of the shower scene was cute but then sex had to happen immediately. It couldn’t have waited five minutes- yes I am aware it’s an erotica/ they could have had bomb sex afterwards. Speaking of discussion, they knew they were going to get married, communicated when it officially got serious and they never had the talks required for such a commitment. How are these supposed to be responsible people? I was told and shown that they were in the first couple chapters but all that disappeared huh? They didn’t even talk about kids. I mean come on.

Seriously though I don’t care if you are writing it as consensual there should always be a warning to readers about sex scenes that start off with someone unconscious. Genuinely do not know how to fully describe my frustration with this. Especially in the context of the dude knowing she was angry with him for good reason and obviously very drunk which he recommended/anticipated. I’m not over exaggerating or asking for too much on this. I recognize that the author wrote: “contains explicit language, lewd sex scenes, and moments of depression. This is also an insta-love type EROTIC novel.” And while I appreciate this inclusion... I’m down for all of that and still not okay with sex starting with a party unconscious without prior warning. If the author thought to caveat all of that why was the troubling aspects excluded?

Ultimately I just don’t see it. I’m being told they are a perfect match and the evidence doesn’t line up where I’m sitting. I did like parts of this book, my amassed pile of ire just became too high. Honestly I should have just forsaken the three dollars I paid for the ebook and walked away when he left the house to go have sex with another woman because he was angry and horny. Clearly not the book for me. This isn’t me refusing to every read another book by Monica Walters btw but it does mean I will need a personal recc from a trusted fellow reader from now on.

I’ve had Marry Me Twice sitting on my TBR for about a year, and honestly? I should’ve gotten to it sooner. The Audible narration truly brought this story to life, and once I pressed play, I was all in.

If you love a forced marriage trope, this one delivers—but with depth, tenderness, and authenticity. Haji and Chinara’s love story is unconventional, yet it unfolds in a way that feels intentional and deeply satisfying. Haji steps into Chinara’s life at a moment when she truly needs someone, offering not just stability but genuine care and companionship. From the very beginning, he makes it clear that Chinara—his “pretty Black doll”—will be protected, provided for, and respected.

Haji is everything: educated, financially stable, protective, a true provider, and yes…sexy. Chinara absolutely struck gold. What I appreciated most was how gentle yet firm Haji was—he spoke his mind, but Chinara always knew where she stood. That balance made their relationship feel grounded and safe, even as emotions intensified.

Once they’re engaged, the story takes off on a rollercoaster of growth, passion, and self-discovery. Chinara begins to fulfill her dreams, while Haji finally receives the acknowledgment and validation he’s long sought from his family—along with a loving wife by his side. Their shared identity as African immigrants added rich context to the story, especially as both navigated love, family expectations, and longing for home while living far from their native countries.

And let’s talk about the chemistry—because it was dripping off the page. From the moment they noticed each other (even before they spoke), the connection was undeniable. I could vividly imagine their wedding—the attire, the culture, the beauty of dark, blemish-free skin glowing in celebration. It was stunning in my mind.

Monica Walters delivered a unique and refreshing love story, and I thoroughly enjoyed this journey. I’m sincerely hoping we get Jarius and Daraja’s story because it feels like they have so much to tell. And low-key? I wouldn’t mind Mr. Kline getting his own spotlight either—country living and all.

When I read a book by Monica Walters, I know that I’m going to get an amazing book. Marry Me Twice is no exception. This book is sizzling hot so have your favorite beverage on standby because you will definitely need it to quench your thirst and cool you off.
Marry Me Twice is tells the story of Chinara Nwachucku and Haji Abimbola. Both of them left their families in Africa to pursue their dreams in America. Chinara and Haji went to college and both have successful careers. Chinara is suddenly laid off from her job and her life changes drastically. Haji has been watching Chinara from afar for a few months each time he goes for a haircut. He even has a nickname for the beautiful woman.
Haji’s father suddenly dies and he flies back home to his native Sierre Leone for the funeral and the reading of the will. The outcome from the reading of the will will change Haji’s life as well. Whe he sees Chinara again coming from the hair store, he is surprised by how she’s living and the tough time she’s going through.
Follow Chinara and Haji journey to see if they fall in love or in lust with each other. You will find that out by reading Marry Me Twice by Monica Walters.
What I loved about Marry Me Twice was the education about 2 African provinces and the culture of each one. This didn’t take away from the story at all. It actually enhanced the story. I also loved that from Haji and Chinara’s first meeting, he treated her like a woman should be treated as a Queen. Chinara also treated Haji as he should have be treated as a man a King. The storyline flowed seamlessly and the plot was just amazing. The love scenes were so sizzling hot and you could feel the heat and the passion as I was reading Marry Me Twice.
Mrs. Walters shows us in Marry Me Twice that you can find love after closing off your heart. You just have to find that right partner to break those walls down and treat you like a Queen. She also shows us the power of forgiveness in this book as well.
Make sure to grab a copy of Marry Me Twice by Monica Walters. Available on Amazon.

This book was combustible in the best way 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶! Hiji is the man in every way. He knew exactly what he wanted and was determined to give Chinara the life she deserved. This man said, "I need a list of all your bills, even the trivial ones, like Apple Music, so I can take care of you." He was intellectually and emotionally caring towards Chinara and careful about how his actions would affect her once she opened up to him. He asked her to "Tell me what you want me to do." She spoke up, and he followed through times 10000!. He's a good man Savannah!!

I loved the way he was always straightforward with her while also understanding the space she needed to catch up to him in moving towards a relationship. On the other hand, I appreciated Chinara's vulnerability and loved the softness that she pulled out of Hiji. He was very protective over her and played no games about anyone even thinking about disrespecting her. Hiji was down bad and would do whatever it took to keep Chinara in his life, and her energy reflected the same for him. I was in a complete chokehold reading this and will absolutely check out some more work by this author.

This romance placed African culture front and center. I thought it was quite appropriate as many have rediscovered or discovered the richness that is found in the culture. I loved that both, Haji and Chinara, were clearly enjoying and ingrained in Western culture, they didn't lose the importance of their heritage. The author also gives us something a little different from those country boys, we've come to crave from her writing. The characters were well developed as was the storyline. The characters worked individually and as a unit. The story flowed well and moved along at a moderate pace. Now while this was not my favorite in her catalog, it was still a sexy enjoyable read. 3.5 rolled to a 4

I'll Marry Him Thrice

Yes, yes! I would marry Haji thrice! The story was different from this authors usual portfolio; It was a delightful experience as well. Haji was hot dude, I need one for myself fine. And not to forget about the book's cover and catchy title. The way the story opened with Chinara down on her luck saddened me. I could tell her pride and majestic persona made an impression on Haji when they met. Each encounter after the first diss by Chinara , there was this imaginary line between them closer to obliteration. Haji's initial motive was clear, and that wall shattered quickly as he began his quest to love Chinara for real, and to have her love him back.

You can’t hide from Love

Chinara has fallen on hard times. She is struggling to keep her head about water. Love is not on her agenda right now. Haji is a successful man who has everything he thought he wanted until he lays eyes on on Chinara. Haji is a player who has never had to work to get a woman to give into him. Haji doesn’t understand the pull Chinara’s spirit has on him, when all he wants to do is walk away. When circumstances allow these two to finally come together, baby sparks fly! Monica continues to elevate her pen game with Marry Me Twice!! Chinara and Haji pull you in from page one. Don’t play yourself and skip this book. We all need a light and love during this time. Chinara and Haji’s story will definitely give it to you!

A Destined Lifetime of Love

What could I say, this story was amazing! Mz. Walters is about to make every single woman move to Texas in search of her forever King. Haji is a mans man and he proved that the moment he claimed Chinara for his own. Chinara was the woman we all see in ourselves trying to make it on our own be successful and make our family proud and that independence she held so deeply almost cost her the love of a lifetime. Haji’s heart was so beautiful and I loved how he supported Chinara and truly treated her as his Queen. This story will make smile and overheat as these two find themselves and become one beautiful example of excellence in black love.

Haji&Chinara

Beautifully written!!! First off, I like the names, lol!! Secondly, Haji just exudes BDE. I’m glad Chinara was finally able to match his presence. She was showing him that he was a king and he definitely upgraded her to queen status. Their chemistry was pure albeit the proposal. Can’t fight destiny. Loved how he and Chinara assimilated to American culture but deep down their roots remained. I visualized the weddings like I was there. Oh, loved their spontaneity when it comes to sex. Good job!!!

African King!!

Mercy this is one of my favorite reads by you . Haji was one of a kind. I didnt like the way Chinara was treating him when he tries to introduce hisself but I understand why she was going through something. Chinara was so stubborn but I'm glad that she allowed Haji to lead her and look what happened they got married and produced a beautiful little girl. This book had my undivided attention from beginning to end. I'm glad he found out about Kevin I didn't like his attitude. I wish Haji dad would have talked to him more. Great Read !!

Haji and Chinara are my new favorite book couple! This book had me at the first page. I don't know how Monica Walters continues to produce these page turners that ooze with romance and just enough steam to make you want to...have to...

Haji was all man that respected traditional values but recognized that he was of a newer generation. Although Chinara fought him in the beginning, Haji managed to sweep her off her feet and not only save her but her family as well. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would!
