Bloody hell, this book was awesome!!

This girl named Signal, yes that’s her name, gets put in prison for murdering her best friend ...but she doesn’t remember. She’s like.. uh what..no

They have these killers called Class A, which means your the worst of the worst. You can also take this test to see if you classify. If you do, you go to prison for your thoughts. The hell? I know right?!

Anyhoo, Class A’s can’t appeal so Signal is offered a secret thing she can join or rot in jail. She decides to take the deal. Turns out her and one of her mates from her prison (Nobody, yes, she goes by Nobody) end up at a camp together. What!!?? Yay??!!

NO, this ain’t that camp. WELCOME TO CAMP NARAMAUKE!! We’re going to train you to be assassins. Say what?! Poor ole Signal gets thrown in with some killer teens and she’s an innocent.

I actually fell in love with the group after they all got sorted out. Signal, Nobody, Jada, Javier, Erik, Dennis, Troy and Kurt. Dave and Kate run the place and are twats.

The kids are tagged so they can’t just run off. They start training on some things, but then some whackado shows up in a dog mask trying to kill them. Needless to say, chaos ensues!

Also, during the book one of the kids tries to help Signal find out who really killed her best friend. And let’s just say there are a few different end games, some crazy twists and what the..moments.

I throughly enjoyed this book and the end was so good with both a sad and happy ending! I will be adding this book to my clan 😉

11/10/2020: HAPPY PUB DAY!!!

You and your friend encounter a terrifying masked stalker in the woods. Do you:
a) run
b) scream
c) freeze
d) yell to your friend, “Race you to him?”

If you chose option d)—congratulations, reader!!! I now proclaim you a member of the TEEN KILLERS CLUB.

🩸🔪 I LOVED this book. Like, I seriously can't remember the last time I was so damn ENTERTAINED.

Up until she was framed for the gruesome murder of her ex-best friend, Signal Deere's biggest problems had to do with being ostracized as the only goth at her small-town high school. Now, the whole world thinks she decapitated Rose without even an ounce of remorse.

Signal's world is sort of like an alternate 2020: Snapchat, Netflix, and Apple Watches exist, but so does a personality test/risk assessment called the Wylie-Stanton Index. Every offender is tested and assigned a Class designation according to how dangerous they are, with Class A reserved for the truly twisted.

Turns out, Signal is a Class A.

EXCEPT... she's also vegetarian and woozy with blood, has zero stamina, and can't hold a knife (or poker face) to save her life. Suddenly, Signal's shipped to a mysterious camp in the wilderness alongside a fellow Class A, the ski-masked girl named Nobody. Her last hope for finding Rose's murderer lies with this camp—a top-secret assassin-training program.

“We had a trespasser at camp today...”
“Can we hunt him too?” Troy grins.
Kate gives him an exasperated look. “Let’s try not to crap where we sleep, guys.”

🩸🔪 WELCOME TO THE TEEN KILLERS CLUB! AKA murder Harvard for psychopathic teenage killers. Deadly Class, summer camp edition.

God, this book made me pee my pants laughing. It's SO dark and macabrely funny, the kind of offbeat-morbid that makes you want to gawk on like a rubbernecking fool. Here, campers learn how to dismember and hide dead bodies so they'll never be found. Every morning, they must complete an obstacle course that simulates breaking and entering. They're quizzed on the precise amount of acid (Zap Sauce!) needed to dissolve a corpse, learn how to craft shivs out of soup cans, and play a game of tag in which they slice each other's carotid arteries with Sharpies. All of this is executed with enough pep to power the electrical grid of a small city.

🩸🔪 I freakin' ADORED the motley crew cast: each character is so distinct and endearing in their own twisted way. Everyone's first question to each other is: "How many???" As in, how many people have you killed? And with this squad, instead of comparing zodiac signs, the cool thing to do is brag about murder styles.

Erik's the apex manipulator who'll use his charm, intelligence, and killer (pun intended) good looks to worm his way into your head; when you die, he won't even have to lift a finger. If you make a move on Erik, Jada's more likely to carve your smile into one that stretches from ear to ear than she is to give you a chance to explain you were just borrowing a pencil. The twins, Kurt and Troy, revel in the hedonism of drawn-out kills—when they aren't busy cracking fart jokes. Dennis may look dorky and slight, but he has murderous fantasies (torture and decapitation, anyone?) that he lives out in his own corner of the darkweb. Javier's knuckles are layered with scars, yet Signal can't help but be drawn to his gallant and protective presence. And bloodthirsty Nobody never takes off her ski mask and won't hesitate to kill a man with her bare hands, but she's also fiercely loyal, too.

When she meets this gang of Class A misfits, Signal's scared shitless—but she also, for the first time, finds some semblance of belonging. (Even if she's the only one who doesn't whoop with joy when a serial killer stalks the campers.)

I seriously had so much fun reading this book. I was hooked on the mystery surrounding Rose's true murderer, fascinated by the campers' backstories, freaked out by the masked serial killer man, and even invested in Signal's budding love triangle! Though the prose sometimes came off a lil too absurd (all those !??!?'s grated on me, y'all), I really, really enjoyed Lily Sparks' writing.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK TWO. THERE BETTER BE A BOOK TWO.

this book has SUCH a quirky offbeat hilarious macabre personality, i couldn't help but scratch the itch to make a teen killers club-inspired playlist: 🩸🔪

Let me tell you something: Lily Sparks knows how to write an engaging story.

I requested Teen Killers Club because of the cover. I honestly did not expect that this would be one of my favorites of all time. This book managed to take me back to my teenager self, when I had just started reading fiction, I felt all the feels: I laughed, I cried, and then finished the book with a heartwarming sensation.

This is Signal's story. She goes to jail for killing her best friend, but she doesn't have any memories from the night of the crime. After going to prison, she takes a test that measures her level of danger in society, and the result is the highest level of all (Class A). That means she'll never be able to have a normal life again and she's given two options: staying in prison forever or going to camp where she'll train to be an assassin, among other Class A teenagers.

I love stories set in camps because they're a lot of fun and this one, besides its morbidity, was the funniest of all. Exactly for being YA, but having a theme as serious as death, this could be read at any age and still be enjoyable. It's been a long time since I've been as enthralled: the characters were incredible, all chapters end right in the middle of a scene (which made me think "just one more chapter" multiple times), the plot had plenty of twists and the mystery was extremely well put together.

One of the most surprising reads I've ever had and I can't recommend it enough. It comes out in November, so I say: preorder it RIGHT NOW!

This was f*cking INSANE!!
(IN THE BEST WAY!!!)

SO ADDICTIVE & CRAZY, plus it Hit the ground running— & then from there on out the plot was the perfect shade of fast paced (a total twisted action mystery with new revelations at every turn!), had you constantly questioning yourself as to who was friend or foe, and whether you should even listen to your own instincts at all.

SO GOODDDDDDD OMG!

(I literally just have to say... holy sh*t! I can't believe that this was a debut! Seriously, so excellent.)

Def recommend if a little of the macabre doesn't scare you off :-P

This is a stand alone novel, a rarity these days, especially in the YA genre. So that's refreshing. The premise is kind of grim and yet funny at the same time—convicted teen killers selected for a sort of summer camp for professional killers. Kind of like Looking for Alaska crossed with Darkly Dreaming Dexter.

The author has been a camp counselor, so probably started out by fantasizing what she might like to do to some little puke who made themselves obnoxious. (I've never been a camper, my experience consisted of working in a camp kitchen, so I only experienced this rite of passage as an observer and I admired the counselors' patience. I was grateful to deal with dishes, not campers.)

Signal has ended up in this camp through someone's malice. She woke from a drugged stupor with her only frenemy's decapitated head in her lap. Signal & her mother live in a trailer park, so there's no money for a lawyer and Signal goes to jail. She has scored highly on a psychiatric test that identifies stone cold killers too, so between the two, she is chosen for this deadly commando training. But it rapidly becomes obvious that she didn't kill her friend and doesn't have what it takes to harm anyone. How is she even going to survive training, let alone her first assignment?

This is a seventeen year old main character, pretty naïve really, so of course she wants friends and a boyfriend, even if she is surrounded by sociopaths. And for people who have very few emotions, her unusual peer group seems to find a certain degree of connection with her. But we question the reality of these associations every step of the way right along with Signal. One thing these peers recognize is that Signal doesn't belong in their circle.

So, not realistic at all, but great entertainment. I'm just recovering from a nasty migraine and this was the perfect antidote. Nothing too heavy or complex, just silly fun.

This was really great!! It was such an awesome premise that I was entertained from the first page. While Signal was not my favorite character by any means, I was still into her story. I also was a little annoyed with her name for some reason and kept hearing Sigil in my mind instead of Signal. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ But that’s my own mental hurtle!!

Otherwise, a camp for kids who have killed people that teaches them to get better at killing?!?! Well hell yeah I want to see how that unfolds!!! Each character has their own quirky thing going on and an interesting back story. While we don’t learn everyone’s background, we learn enough to like each member of the Teen Killers Club. I personally adore Nobody cause she’s just the shit. A fierce person in everything she does.

I kept trying to guess who the killer was in Signal’s story, whether it was her, someone she knows, or even a stranger that she’s never met. But I was soooo wrong on all my guesses, which is awesome!!! I was also wrong about most of my character judgements and I love a book that can surprise me. Makes for a super fun read!! Should I be concerned that I related to these teen killers?!?! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m so glad I picked this up for October as there’s a bit of mystery, a chilling plot, and is a thrilling ride altogether. I recommend this to YA thriller lovers, but do watch out, there’s a bit of violence... I mean, the title kinda says so, but thought I’d verify. There is killing involved!!!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for allowing me to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion!!!

My initial reaction to this title went a little something along these lines . . . .

And I surely was not disappointed at the onset where a bus of juvies being transported to a new facility seems to be taking a bit of a detour – calling to mind a potential YA version of . . . .

That wasn’t quite the case, but still the idea of an algorithm that rates your potential for murder and arson on a scale of D (being a benign granny) to A (true “human-sharks” a la Charles Manson) was still right on brand when it comes to things I enjoy. And the idea of . . . . .

“We want to use Class As’ skills in a … productive way.

“We’ll be training you to kill people.”

Well . . . . .

Unfortunately this fell victim of YA selections of the past with a real Mary Sue for a leading lady who was more concerned with receiving her first kiss and relying on the kindness of a real stupid effing love triangle strangers rather than learning how to kick some ass when given the opportunity. This had true potential for being 4 Stars, but between the kissing stuff (I mean, really, aren’t we better than that at this point????) to the whodunit reveal that more than kind of jumped the shark (additional twists instead of the most obvious solution aren’t always necessary) and the ending leaving this wiiiiiiiiiiide open for a follow-up has me saying . . . . .

3 Stars because I was entertained for the majority of the book and because I'm well aware that I am not the target demographic.

Teen Killer Club was an entertaining listen and offered a good distraction from the world. Signal is wrongly accused of her best friends murder and is sent to an assassins training camp to avoid jail time. That being said, I thought this was funny with its morbid humor but I didn’t love this for a few reasons. I liked the writing and I do think the narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life. Signal herself was pathetic which I understand was the point but wow, she kind of killed me inside with how lame she was. I don’t like weak main characters. I also didn’t care for the love triangle because it was so dramatic. As for the rating, I’m caught in between liking it but also thinking it was okay. I thought the plot was interesting enough but sadly didn’t love this one as others have seemed to.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced audiobook!

This was a blast! Teen Killers Club reads like a CW show, so if you can get on board with that level of camp and melodrama, you should absolutely give this a go.

Signal is a teen girl is framed for the murder of her best friend and then inducted into a secret government program for training teen assassins. The training location? An old abandoned campground where typical camper activities take on a deadly edge. (think competing to dismember and dispose of fake bodies or color wars involving a marker slash across the neck) Supposedly everyone is a "Class A" killer- brilliant and lacking empathy. Signal is doing her best to fit in and not die, while also unraveling the mystery of why she can't remember the night her best friend died.

There is action, romance, a love triangle, lots of drama, and of course murder. I really enjoyed it and I think if you go in with the right expectations, you might as well. I received a copy of this book for review, all opinions are my own.

CW:

Well that last line was hilarious!

What an exhilarating ride! A training camp for teen killers? I mean what's not to be excited about when Signal, an innocent teenager, is dropped in with these Class A ultimate murderers. Day one task: Dismember and dispose of a life-like dummy. I loved the killers themselves too, particularly 'Nobody'. You kind of get a bit charmed by them and their sassy teen vibe, right up until they prove just why they have been deemed Class A, and then you are like holy smokes Batman, they are stone cold killers! Heaps of fun with a twisty murder mystery woven in there too.

This book totally took me by surprise! I was totally engrossed in the story, trying to figure out if Signal was innocent or not and what secrets the other campers were keeping. This went in so many ways, I constantly doubted myself and my theories. There's also an interesting love triangle to add a bit more drama and keep us sucked in.

Signal has been (wrongfully?) convicted of killing her best friend and classified 'A', the worst level of offender. To avoid prison, she's joined a camp for other class A's, but she gets a surprise when it turns out the kids are learning to be assassins. Signal isn't cut out to kill people, so she begins to unite the kids and tries to convince them that they're better than murder and need to get out. She bonds immediately with Javier when he helps her with their tasks. He's sweet and doesn't seem to fit in the merciless killer box.

The other guy is Eric, who has the most kills of anyone at camp. He's known to manipulate others, get in their heads and exploit their weaknesses. He and Signal have clear chemistry, but it's hard to tell if he's interested or just playing with her. I was torn between who to root for for most of the book, but by the end I knew who was the right choice.

The killer storyline was twisty and well done. I would have liked more of the characters' backstories and the ending is pretty open. I hope their will be a sequel, please?!!
The audiobook narrator did a great job. She really put herself into it and added little details that made it even better.

Thank You to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC!!

Seventeen-year-old Signal Deere is convicted of her best friend Rose's brutal murder, she's designated a "Class A", the most dangerous and manipulative criminal profile. To avoid prison, Signal signs on for a secret program for 18-and-under Class As and is whisked off to an abandoned sleep-away camp, where she and seven bunk mates will train as assassins.

But Signal doesn't fit in and neither does she manage to take part actively in the camp because unlike her other campers, she is innocent.

I just loved this book because its so different and unique!! Its an amazing YA adventure which keeps you hooked on till the end. Initially some of the characters creep you out because they are just teenagers who actually like killing but gradually through the book you start liking all of them. The mystery of Rose's death keeps you guessing right till the end. And the ending... what do I say... It just makes me cry out for a sequel.

Highly recommended!!

"Life is a fuse, and I am the red spark shooting toward its end, each moment burning away as soon as I exist within it, bright, sparkling, then gone."

Who knew that murder could be so much fun?

Being Class A means being the worst. You murder someone in cold blood with a smile on your face. But what happens when a group of Class A teenagers are forced to live their day's training to take people out without being caught? Explosive drama is about to go down. Just remember to show dominance.

This was a fast-paced read. It was one where you didn't know where to look next and was shocked as the story progressed. When more and more clues make their way to the surface, prepared to lose your damn mind. And the characters. Wow! They were all special and quirky in their own little way. You instantly connect with all them and feel their stories. My absolute favorite is Nobody. What a badass!

Teen Killers Clubs was a fun mystery and I loved it. It was one of those reads that was sad and good at the same time. I mean, we all, go a little mad sometimes and this was fantastic insanity. I can not wait for book two! This was too damn good to forget!

“We had a trespasser at camp today...”

I’m not going to lie, I picked up this book solely because of the captivating title. A teen killer club, full of characters that are (debatably) the bad guys? Sign me up.

It’s Suicide Squad for teenagers. Super compelling story and unique premise, but unfortunately I wasn’t a big fan of Signal, the main character. The mystery surrounding the gruesome murder she doesn’t remember being a part of is super interesting and not at all easy to figure out until the very end, which is a plus, but Signal as a character was just a bit too bland for my taste, and her thought-process was dense at best.

I was hoping this would be a stand alone with a clear beginning, middle and end, but not much was resolved by the last chapter and I just read that the sequel is coming out next year, which is fine, but this first one definitely had the time to give itself a proper ending surrounding Rose’s murder.

I didn’t expect to like any of the other teenagers at camp as much as I did, Erik especially. He was a great character, insteresting and full of drive, without him the plot would’ve been a no-no. The love triangle was extremely unnecessary though, and it felt like it was there just for the sake of being there.

Overall, it was a nice read, the plot was so unique and fun, and I’ll for sure be checking out the next book in this series (duology?)

I didn't expect to care and love these characters so much. At the beginning, most of them creeped me out. I was worried and scared of what they might do to the main character but time passed, things happened and I ended up crying for them. How did THAT happen? ahah. This book almost broke me.
It took me by surprise and I loved every second of it.

In this story, you follow a wrongly accused teenage girl as she is sent in a camp to learn how to kill efficiently and how "to not get caught". They're prisoners and they have no other choice than to do what they are told before they're sent on a mission to kill a target. The fact that our FMC is innocent is even more scary since she has to fit in when all of this is terrifying and horrible especially since the other teenagers here aren't the most stable people out there. The atmosphere was on point and I was stressed out for her. The whole mystery about who really killed her victim was also interesting.

Overall, this book kept my attention from beginning to the end and I couldn't look away (or listen away in that case, I guess). I am really glad I got to read this book because it will leave a mark on me.

Signal, the lead character of Teen Killers Club, has been framed for murder. Not only was the supposed murder her best friend, but Signal could never do what they’re saying: she might be a goth misfit from a trailer park, but she has a heart of gold. Not only the obvious, it’s apparent that Signal feels faint at the sight of blood, making killing anyone a rather hard task. So when she dodges prison time for joining an elite group dubbed Class A – some of the most dangerous and criminal under-18’s in a secluded camp, where everyone trains as assassins – it’s not all she expected.

But Signal isn’t going to let the prospect of who she’s surrounded by now put her off the mission at hand: she wants to find out who killed her best friend. After all, it’s the only reason that she chose to be part of the group. She doesn’t belong here, not part of the Teen Killer Club. Nevertheless, as she starts to get to know the new people around her, falling in love and also haunted by a mysterious man in the woods, it proves to be far from the experience that she thought. And finding out at what lengths the campers are confined to, with the real killer on the loose, it’s going to be one hell of a journey.

Overall, I just FELL for this book. From the whip-smart characters, perfect (yet dark) humour and self-discovery undertone, there was nothing to hate about Teen Killers Club. I turned page after page, eager to uncover the mystery with Signal, feeling taken along for the thrill-seeking ride of close-calls, teens with an edge and the lengths someone will go to for closure. This was by far one of my favourite reads of the year and it’s so hard to not give too much away without spoiling, but all I can say, without a doubt, is that Teen Killers Club is a glowing five-star read.

“They’re two middle-aged weirdos in charge of the first-ever elite force of teenaged assassins. How did you think they were keeping us in line? Merit badges?”

This book was all sorts of trippy. I mean really, really, crazy. But also amazing. And I’m really scared of saying anything that will give out spoilers. So I’m saying this. This is a beautifully written story that should be read by anyone who likes reading about investigating a murder from the killer’s point of view. I Hunt Killers blew me away when I first read it. So it’s no surprise I loved this book! It’s full of gore and killings, duh. At times I was actually scared. Listen, I love Criminal Minds. It’s an addiction. While other people are watching reruns of The Office or Friends, I’m watching serial killers kill and the be caught. And I love it but for some reason I associate serial killers to grown ups. Reading about teens, Class A’s, young killers not only proud of what they did but happy to be able to kill again. It was hard to read at times. It was scary. And that’s what makes this book so good. The real fear that came from reading about them. Also, they are not innocent but you feel for them. They are unlikable characters but you’re rooting for them. That’s so hard to pull off. And it was. I was, still am, mad at all the adults in the position of power that took these broken kids and broke them even more so they could use them as assassins. Not a spoiler, but almost, so I’ll stop here.

There’s action, a group of deadly teenagers who are killers being trained to kill better, while simultaneous having a detective/investigation plot. Because Signal is innocent but who framed her? This book was so good.

*Side note. I would have devoured this book in one sitting if possible. It took me so long to read because life happened. I literally could not read. I was so upset. I needed to know what happened. Who did it? Seriously, I had so many questions and theories. I think there should be a sequel. However I’m not sure how it’ll play out or if it can even happen. So I’ll wait and see if the author decides a to continue this story or not.

Teen Killers Club had me at "a young girl joins a super-secret society of teenage assassins" and kept me engaged with a riveting plot, believable characters and twists that left my gasping under my breath what?!.

In Teen Killers Club we follow Signal, a girl who has allegedly murdered her best friend but has zero recollection of doing that. After her conviction Signal finds herself taking her only option out of prison by joining a camp for misfit murderers of the highest class under a Suicide Squad type plot. While at camp she meets the most ragtag group of teens, each character developed so well that I feel like I know them.

The mystery elements of this book hold up very well - we have the unsolved murder of Signal's best friend Rose, as well as the curious case of the murderer trying to murder the murderers... yes you read that correctly. Teen Killers Club will lead you in one direction and then give you a little bait and switch with it's plot twists, I couldn't put it down once I really got into it.

For fans of the macabre and morally inept characters, I highly recommend.

Teen Killers Club is a perfect read for die-hard YA readers who might want to try a little bit more of a "mysterious" book.

Usually, I don't incorporate the actual audiobook too much in my review, but dang, this narrator really gave it their all. All of the characters had distinct voices and didn't sound too cheesy/forced when reading. Especially during the climax of the novel, I was surprised and a little bit startled about how much they put into the acting. But definitely two thumbs up for the actual reading.

What I thought Teen Killers Club was mainly lacking was a darker theme. I understand that it was trying to be self-aware and almost comedic at some parts, but I really think a slightly darker undertone would've helped. And when I say "darker", I'm meaning something a little bit deeper and unsettling than just explicit death and violence. I signed up for Teen Killers Club but all of the members are slightly exaggerated high school stereotypes? I really didn't feel the aspect of fear or discomfort with its setting, which I think definitely needed some work.

If you're thinking about reading this, just know that it has the same teenager plots we usually read about just with serial killers as characters. I wouldn't expect too much from the mystery/thriller/horror aspect, there's more of the romance/friendship aspect.

Teen Killers Club is a cross between a young adult thriller and a coming of age story, set against a dystopian landscape. The whole premise is a refreshingly original and interesting one and it's a whole lot of fun! It follows seventeen year old Signal Deere, a reclusive, introverted trailer park Goth who is very much an outsider and has been framed for the brutal murder and decapitation of her best friend and classmate, Rose. Trouble is she has no recollection of the night in question. She becomes known as The Girl From Hell and designated a Class A criminal, a class reserved for those society dubs irredeemable, but instead of going through the court process and then on to a lifetime in prison if convicted, she is recruited into a secret group full of other Class A criminals, where they become trained assassins the government uses to kill off anyone causing them inconvenience. But Signal is innocent and there's no such thing as an appeal or retrial for the worst offenders. She doesn't fit in amongst the genuine murderers who enjoy being taught how to kill and dispose of bodies inconspicuously. Can she survive a camp full of psychopaths and fake her way through the program?

This was so much fun right from the off and the mix of humour, puppy love and Signal's thrilling time in the camp, living alongside psychopathic slayers, made this such a quick, easy and thoroughly entertaining read. There are twists and turns to the story and it all moves at a decent pace. I really enjoyed the distinctive personalities of the characters, and I imagine a lot of time and effort went into making them as intricately developed as they were. Of course, the plot has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if you can suspend your disbelief you are treated to a compulsive and really quite addictive dystopian thriller, which is a perfect as an escape from the rather troubling reality we are in right now. An excellent, gripping and unique debut from an author to watch. Recommended to those who enjoy YA and coming of age thrillers and readers looking for something a little different to the norm. A book to lose yourself in and devour in a single sitting. Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books for an ARC.
