He’s her brother’s best friend. It never should’ve happened. Now she can’t stop it.
Jade’s life is already complicated. She’s trying to co-parent with her toxic ex, keep from breaking his trifling girlfriend’s neck, and make sure her family stays completely unaware of her disastrous decision-making skills. The last thing she needs is more drama. So, it probably wasn’t a good idea for her to get so close to the one guy that she was warned never to get involved with, Khalif Bowen. But she couldn’t help herself. One minute they were talking, and the next, she was greeting him with her lips in the middle of the night.
Now, there’s no going back. What should’ve been a one-time fling with her brother’s best friend, has turned into a secret affair that Jade has no idea how to end, and if word gets out, more than a few people could get caught in the crossfire.
See what happens when becoming more than friends creates a whirlwind of emotions that were never meant to be exposed. Will Khalif and Jade crumble from the pressure of trying to keep the truth from getting out? Or will their unexpected feelings push them to fight for the love they never knew they needed?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoyed this book! I think this is my first book by this author but it’s definitely not my last. The Chemistry between Jade and Khalif was spot on. The drama was perfect not to wild and doing too much and not too little it was perfect. Dorian is such a problematic, toxic, and a narcissist and the way I was getting angry with Jade when he had the audacity to open his mouth was crazy. Overall I loved this book.
Cue the 🥁 dramatics! This book brought plenty of drama with it. It was well written, and I enjoyed reading Jade and Khalif's relationship flourish. However, Jade's ex, Dorian, was a pain. He thought since his other baby mama controlled him, he was going to control Jade. That saying that says, "Be careful who you procreate with," is true for this relationship. Jade should have left Dorian alone years prior. I was glad when she finally after Khalif and others had to tell her to set boundaries with Dorian. Dorian was literally having his cake and eating it, too. He was so wrong in how he treated Jalia on her birthday. I was glad she still had a ball at her party. Her, Jade, and Khalif had a whole family moment in the bouncy house. I know that Jaylin wasn't a fan of Khalif and Jade relationship but they belonged together. Khalif had secretly been crushing and loving Jade for years. He was the best man for her because he is going to always be the provider emotionally, physically, and financially for Jade as well as Jalia.
This is a story filled with bounds of love and plenty of drama. There are a few scenes that are eye-opening, but they make the novel. Get into this book, and you will be highly intrigued. Ms. Taylor, I'm looking forward to what you release next.
This author has a way of delivering a story with lots of emotions and convictions. I know I wasn't the only one sick and tired of Dorian and his entire act of nuisance. Hiding a relationship is so 1980s, and I need couples to give up that fallacy. Jade annoyed the heck out of me for letting Dorian's antics go on too long. And Kahlif was my savior. I liked his soft side, and I will check you for real side.
I’m finally on the A.C Taylor train.. this book was really good way better than I expected it to be … it’s been on my TBR For a while glad I finally read it and I must say it wasn’t disappointed… great read! A lot of funny moments Omg!
Second book that I read from A.C. Taylor and I really enjoyed it. I felt like Jade did too much when it came to her daughter’s father by not setting boundaries. Khalif was exactly what Jade needed even though he was her brother’s best friend.
Great love story! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Jade and Khalif.
The novel opens right in the action, after Jade and Khalif have already hooked up. Jade regrets it because Khalif not only has a reputation, he's her brother's friend and a friend of the family. Eventually, they can't stay apart though. The attraction is too great - not to mention Khalif is not sorry at all about what happened between them and is ready for another round.
Khalif broke bro code by sleeping with his friend's sister, so they kept their relationship a secret for a while. There was also the issue of Jade's ex, her daughter's father. Dorian was a piece of work. He cheated on Jade and then had thee nerve to be possessive and insist she needed his permission to see another man - all while he's back with his first baby mama! Grrr. Jade really had her work cut out with him, and I'm glad she finally set boundaries.
I thought it was interesting that Jade's father was a pastor, and she and her brother both had kids outside of marriage. Those preacher's kids...lol. Lucky for her, her parents were very supportive. I really liked when her dad stepped in during the conversation in Vegas. She had good support from her best friend too.
There were multiple sex scenes, and they were steamy, but I didn't feel overwhelmed because there was plenty of story to keep me engaged between the couple, Jade's family, and Khalif's family too. Well done.
I really enjoyed Khalif! But I must say Jade drove me nuts. Everyone in the book had to talk to her before she actually set boundaries Dorian. She allowed him to do way too much and I am glad Khalif left. Everything worked itself out though.
Ugh! I had high hopes for this one. I’ve read one other book from the author I enjoyed. However, this one missed the mark for me.
I found all the characters annoying. Even sweet sweet mommy and Pastor Maxwell.
Everyone who was participating in this foolishness between Dorian and Jade. All this talk about protecting this fools feelings after he violated soooo many times. When Khalif and Egypt finally told Jade the truth about her role in all this; I was over the entire story. But still felt validated, because FINALLY- someone hold her accountable. She whined this entire story and yet, was never ready to put her foot down. Even in the end she didn’t. Her father rescued her. But she had all the smoke for Raven, when ma’am your wishy washy ass threw Khalif away.
It’s giving… annoying af!
Jade was the worse. There was not enough character development for me. This is the 2nd book, where I felt like the author was adding layers with secondary characters- but their storyline felt choppy. I’m not sure if the brother and his girl are from a previous book. Either way, I didn’t like this.
Side bar- the dialogue written for the 4 year old, didn’t seem age appropriate.
I really enjoyed this book, and it had everything to do with Khalif's character. He was everything i needed in a book bf.
However, this book was a roller-coaster of emotions for me. I went back and forth between cheesing and being pist off. Jade's bum ass baby daddy and his gf really annoyed the life out of me. In real life, i would have beat they ass a long time ago or gone low contact because i could never deal with their shit. Jade also really tried my patience in the end because homegirl really had the audacity to talk to Khalif crazy and blame him for her bum baby daddy's behavior due to her lack of boundaries. And I really did not like how the author spin it, and Khalif ended up apologizing, and she didn't.
I really enjoyed this story! Khalif has had his eyes on Jade for quite some time but out of respect for his best friend, he kept his distance. Jade hasn't had the best luck with men and has an extremely toxic ex she is trying to co-parent with. Watching them go from sneaking to not was entertaining.
I wasn't here for Jade's foolishness with her ex, Dorian, because girl why? Boundaries should've been put in place from the beginning of the break up! There was no excuse as to why she put up with his bs. Khalif was everything she needed him to be without having to ask or even think about it too much. I enjoyed Jade's best friend, Egypt, but thought she was on some funny ish with all the disappearing acts she pulled. I'm glad my initial thought process behind her absences was not the case.
Let me first confess that I skipped quite a few pages. It was too long winded and I wasn't able yo connect with the characters. Jade was annoying and refused to check her BD; so much so that it didn't seem plausible. Kalief was cool and patient but still not connection with him. As a matter of fact, I barely felt the chemistry between them.
The book was enjoyable but not the greatest. There was a bunch of dialogue but not a lot of narrative. There was no angst, no pinning, no buildup. All the characters were annoying. The child’s conversations didn’t seem appropriate for her age. It was readable but could’ve been better.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m mad that it took me SO long to read it.
I love a friends to lovers trope and the author did an excellent job of it in this story! This was my first read by the author and she did not disappoint!
My love for this book had everything to do with the character of Khalif >>> he was just *chefs kiss*
I’m really torn about this one but I’m giving it a 3.5! While I did enjoy the story it feels like something is missing. Best friends sister.. love it! Single parent.. I swoon! We love step daddy season over here! So many of my favorite elements in this book and it still just felt like something was missing. I think I’d it was longer or had an epilogue to wrap things up I would’ve felt differently. After everything with Dorian he just doesn’t show up then the end? That irritated me. I also wanted to see more of Khalif and Jade. Like can we get one date night or something. They’ve known each other a long time so it’s highly possible they were already in love but there wasnt enough on page for me to get attached and really be rooting for them. Now I did enjoy the writing so it’s not that I was against them at all just not fully invested for me to say I loved this book. It has really good story elements though so I wouldn’t tell someone not to give it a try and I’d venture into something else from AC Taylor’s catalog!
This was my first read from this author and I enjoyed it. I loved Khalif. He fell first and I loved it. He couldn’t keep Jade off his mind. Even with all the stress his niece had going on she knew it just from the smile on his face. I hated Jade kept putting off telling Jaylin about it because she knew it was gonna blow up. Dorian and Tiffany deserved each other because both were clearly delusional the whole time. Then how he did his daughter on her birthday being petty. Hated Aunt Fatima. She was 😖 just cruel and hateful for no reason. I liked Egypt but the whole book I felt like something sneaky was going on because of how she would get missing but it was really never addressed. I felt like I need a little more. 4.25/5⭐️
This story had me smiling from ear to ear the entire time I was reading it.
It was a sweet friends to lovers story with all the drama. Far From Friends had so many layers to it and with under 300 pages I feel like I walked away having a great understanding of each and every character. Little Miss Jalia was the cutest little thing that said whatever came to her mind, I loved it.
This was also another reminder, you really just gotta be careful who you have kids with because Dorian sucked and I wanted to fight him from the beginning to the end. He was insufferable and just plain ole aggravating. He did exactly what I thought he would towards the end 'cause he was TRASH!
My favorite person of the whole book was Pastor Matthew for sure! I love a pastor that lives in the real world and doesn't have a problem staying true to word but also not letting anyone play with them or their family. There so many great moments, my highlights went crazy.
I will definitely check out more from A.C.'s catalog. This was a great introduction and I can't wait to read more.
This was 3.5. This was my first read by the author and it was good. Jade and Khalif was fighting feelings for each other but said fck it. Dorian is a whole bxtch, how you let one baby momma control you. Dorian wasn’t shit,he didn’t want anyone around Jade while he was playing house w/ Tiffani. Tiffani was a non factor I don’t get why she was even in the book. I’m glad Jade put her foot down with Dorian and his narcissistic ass was vexed. Sias mother was also straight trash. Jade & Khalif finally got it together and got their HEA.
4.25 ⭐️. I was in the mood for a jealous ex trope but this also being a brother’s best friend where he fell first took the cake. I loved Khalif and Jade. Dorian got on my last nerve. He was petty petty in a cringey way. How you dismiss your daughter cuz you jealous and unhinged. Then of course behind every toxic baby daddy is a toxic grandmother. The happy ending was simple but cute. Definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed their story! Their relationship was complicated but worth all of the drama. They were so cute together. I also appreciated how good Khalif was with Jade’s daughter.
3.5⭐️🌶️🌶️Khalif was exactly what Jade needed. Her ex was dumb as hell, and the drama that he made was uncalled for. She’s a better mother than I am because I would not let him worry me.
Jade worked my nerves by constantly letting Dorian have his petty way, I've noticed most of the authors main female characters get on my nerves with their actions and thought process. Jade knows there was no reason for Dorian to be at Sunday dinners and going on family vacations with her family. Then his girlfriend and mother constantly being disrespectful, her not fully telling her family what was going on when she had a major support system. Then the petty hiding Malik from her brother especially, she was ridiculous. I was happy that they got it together even though it was at the very end which irked me too. I wish more would have happened about Dorian and his people instead of just his sorry text message, I wanted her to curse him out and spill the real beans to his people and hers so they could finally hear and see the truth. Oh well.
Khalif made this story worth reading but dang all the drama, hate, and discontent was UGH! I guess it ended up being a bc love story but this was honestly a hard read. Jade allowed her baby daddy way too much freedom in her life and it was truly annoying. Aunt Fatima needed a good smack to reality because she was too much. The drama was all over the place and there were too many adults that could not talk to each other but instead kept walking away from situations. Just too much.
I was so freaking irritated by the passes that Jade was giving her baby daddy all in the name of trying to co-parent. There was no reason she should've been putting up with the crap he was throwing at her. I also didn't get their hangup on telling people they were messing around. Yeah, when yall were teens, your bestie said to stay away from his sister, but y'all are grown now, and if you aren't on any f-boy stuff, then what's the problem. I also noticed that the author never really gave us descriptions of the characters, I just came up with something in my head.
Khalif and Jade were such a vibe. One night of pleasure with your best friends younger sister leads to unstopped thoughts of steamy s** and potential on what could be.Drama from a manipulative baby daddy and a on and off again fling blowing up the spot.
