For viewers of the SAKAMOTO DAYS anime, part two of season one starts with this volume. The death row escapees from overseas are the main bad guys for this arc.
Just like this violently gorgeous cover suggest, sakamoto days is still sitting strong within its strides, constantly growing this ragtag but dangerous group of glorified seven eleven workers and no putting them against serial killers, like what a jump. That being said shin and lu have been doing some serious upgrading of their own, talk about triad level drunk and future sight! I’m also fondly enjoying the JAA’s slow addition into the mix at large since it gives the world so much more life and feel.
It's glorified action at its best. The drawn choreography never fails to impress, and whilst a volume consisting of mainly fight scenes doesn't sound very interesting on paper, Suzuki pulls it off to perfection. What really makes this shine is the art. Whilst it has been consistently good throughout so far, it really gets to shine centre stage here. It's pure popcorn-worthy combat put onto page and boy is it a treat to read.
What I thought was going to be a long arc about Lu Xiaotang actually ended quickly as the new arc is about some death row escapees trying to take out a bunch of Japanese assassins for a bounty offered by the big baddie, Slur. Lu and Shin get the spotlight for a bit before ceding the floor to Osaragi.
So not a lot of Sakamoto or humor, but plenty of over-the-top action and thrills.
Binge alert: I fell behind on this series and four more on deck for this week.
If I were the gods I would never have created people like you and me. But I suppose they're too kind
Bueno, bueno, menuda joyita.
Serial killers enter the picture going after our convivence store owner and his peeps. This manga has some of the BEST fights in manga. I loved how brutal this one got, especially when we have killers who get pleasure from murder. But also the entire heart of this series is the bonds between these characters and overall comedy and light hearted moments really shine through. This ends with new powers for two of our heroes, and in a epic way. Can't wait for more.
“Everybody has their special strengths! Yours doesn’t have to be the same as anyone else’s!”
Sakamoto Days, Vol. 5 is such a fun mix of action and heart. One of the things I really enjoyed about this volume is how it shows care in all kinds of unexpected ways—through friendship, teamwork, even rivalries. The characters keep growing, and their relationships are starting to shift in interesting ways. We also get introduced to new villains, which adds a fresh layer of tension and chaos to the story.
Shin absolutely cracked me up in this one—there’s a moment where he gets hit with someone’s thoughts, and it leaves him completely rattled in the funniest way. Plus, we finally meet the Order members, and seeing them in action is a highlight. Nagumo is still my favorite—he’s sharp, unpredictable, and just weirdly lovable. I’ve read the manga, watched the anime, and now I’m going through it again in physical form, and I still can’t get enough of him.
This volume also brings the girl power hard. There are so many powerful (and weirdly awesome) women here, and I love that about it. Osaragi finally steps into the spotlight, and her motivations really hit. And I have to say, Lu was a standout this time. The chemistry between her and Shin is just so good—it’s subtle but electric. For a shonen, this volume gives a lot of attention to its female characters, and it really works. Four stars from me!
Some of these secondary characters are interesting. Though I would like more time with Mr. Sakamoto. Hard to say more without spoiling things. Good stuff.
Once again I skimmed through the book, the artwork is decent and the fight scenes excellent, but I still cannot connect with any of the characters and I simply don't care.
Last volume I mentioned wanting to find characters that I love. We can go ahead saying all of the order members are now loved. Unfortunately, not the main group.
I’m not sure how many more volumes of Sakamoto Days I can stomach. The major factor which might keep me going is the humor. And I knew that it would run out of steam as it has similar pacing issues that I imagine One Punch Man and Mashle have. The main character has no real room for growth. In fact it’s the sentiments I echoed in my Mashle volume 2 review
I’ll likely keep on until this latest group of baddies gets floored. Not sure I’ll stick around after, but I'm glad I hopped on this train. The JAA is particularly great in this volume. Formally introduced and we get to see our lady in action! If nothing else we can say that volume 5 is tightly packed!
The Sakamoto crew battles in the casino for information regarding the hit on Mr. Sakamoto (and also to keep Lu). Big surprise: It has to do with Slur.
Slur, meanwhile, has set four murderers free and has given them a hit list... that includes Order members as well as Mr. Sakamoto. These four have some strange abilities and killing styles. How will our heroes cope?! (By unlocking new abilities themselves)
Also, why do I identify with Apart so much? I hate pickles. I love organized shelves. I hate when a book is missing from a collection.
oh this arc is so fun (?gory) and i really fw these characters. characters being the sakamoto found family and the order. the death row intimates are absolutely insane and truly believe they're in the right. also, so cool that there's a cleanup crew from the jaa.
Slur and his friends have hired four psychotic serial killers to take down a list of threats to his plan. Unfortunately for Mr. Sakamoto and co they have made the list. But now with Wutang on their side they have some brains for their haphazard team.
Lu and Shin end up battling one of the killers while on an errand and we also get to see Osaragi in action for the first time. There’s a thin line between these assassins and serial killers, but one thing is for sure, only the most skilled will survive!
It's good but not standing out so far. I have yet to find why it's so popular. I'm enjoying the action, yes but where is that 'a-little-extra'? When will I get it?
