I was more suited for it than he was in almost every way.
Except for the most important one… the ability he’d inherited from our father.
Why wasn’t I born with the same powers?
I’m leaving the underworld. I don’t belong there anymore.
Of course, I only have one marketable
Kicking ass and taking names.
How can I use that to start a new life for myself on Earth?
Unfortunately, vigilantism doesn’t pay the bills.

The Chronicles of Zoey Grimm is a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure featuring a slow-burn closed-door romance. This is not a reverse-harem.
Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic-informed by religious myths, ancient and modern-that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.
This style of writing isn't vibing with me. I'm not able to sink into the story. It's actually a bit frustrating because I really wanted to read this. I ended up skimming with glazed eyes and wishing it was shorter. Sorry.
Wow, this is a fantastic story with lots of plot twists that kept me guessing and really grabs your attention. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Revenge of the Scythe: Another great story
I loved the continuation of Zoey's story and the ensuing fight against various vampires. There is suspense and mystery throughout to keep you wondering and guessing who did what. Very well written, I'm looking forward to book 3
Reaper for Hire: Another excellent instalment in the series
Zoey's back and all help breaks loose...literally! Hades is on a mission to take over Olympus and he doesn't care who gets in his way. Zoey and her friends battle all sorts of supernatural on the wamdering horseman's orders but who is he really, and where does he get his intel? This is another fast paced fantasy full of mythical creatures of legend and high stakes. I really love Zoey as a strong FMC who doesn't take any crap from anyone and knows her own mind. She always does what she believes is the right thing at that time. I love how her relationship is blossoming with Kevin too and they both want to protect each other even though they're both trained to fight.
Deadly Beasts: I loved this next chapter of Zoeys story, following the mayhem happening all over due to the Grim Reaper being stood down from his duties. In Hades, all hell breaks loose when the reapers have nothing to do except party, and Zoey and her friends have to figure out what is happening and why, then put it all right!
This time we see a selection of supernaturals taking over the reaping duties and the team have to work out who they are reaping for and why. As expected this book is full of twists and turns.
I think Zoey has to be my favourite character in these books because I love a strong FMC and she is very kickass!! She proves time and again that women can save the day and look amazing while doing it!
Angry Gods: Another great adventure for Zoey and the gang!
Wow, these books really do keep getting better and better! Zoey and her friends are up against gods, vampires and a werewolf now and there are so many twists and turns my head is still spinning! We don't see much of Kevin or Josephine in this book and there's very little mention of Zoey's dad the retired grim reaper but there is plenty of action and some new characters as well as ones from previous books in the series. I can't wait to read the next one and see what happens next!
Olympian Pursuits: Totally gripping and unputdownable!
So, Zoey's story continues, as does her battle to save Olympus and restore order to the realm. I love the amazing combination of historical fact, myth and legend, intense grit and dad jokes! The fight scenes are epic, the world building, as always, is great, and the characters are realistic and believable. What more can you want from a book and series?! I love the solution of who is to rule Olympus and the bits at the end that I don't want to spoil! Roll on book seven...
Soul Harvest: The adventure continues!
I didn't get into this part of the story at first, which is unlike me, but once it got going I couldn't put it down! There's so much happens, with Dracula vying for world domination, Zoey and Sienna must find a way to thwart his efforts...again!!
They revisit the different realms and interact with several entities from their past, some more surprising than others. When it comes down to it, can they save the world yet again? Of course they can!
I wasn’t sure when I started the first book that I was going to enjoy reading about the grim reapers. However, I was pleasantly surprised that each story was not filled with gloom and doom. The author is a wonderful storyteller with a vivid Imagination. He developed the stories, the characters, and his in-depth explanations of the various supernatural beings that I was constantly in awe. Zoey, the awesome main character, was surprised by her gifts, but learned to wield them admirably. She sounds like the humble girl next door that you wouldn’t know was one of the most talented and powerful beings on Earth. I really enjoyed taking many exciting adventures with her.
One aspect of the books that I appreciate is how the author adeptly touched on issues of various religions. He wrote in a way that wasn’t pushy. While I might agree and disagree with some of what was written, I admire that he was able to include various religious characters from a variety of religions without pushing his own beliefs (whatever they are) on the reader. I enjoyed the character development of the Greek pantheon especially, having never read much about them. The Egyptian gods misbehaved as I would have expected them to. Christian and Wiccan beliefs intermingled some of the important characters. I think there were some others as well that I can’t recall. Nevertheless, kudos to Theophilus Monroe and Michael Anderle for navigating those belief systems in a tasteful manner. However, if a reader is a devout, fundamentalist with a narrow mind, then that person might find themselves fuming at the authors’ open-minded approach.
Because of some of the violence and sexual content, these books are not for the young reader. I’d rate it at least a PG-13. I doubt there is anything in the book that most secondary students in public schools haven’t heard about. Parents are definitely different and will vary on their beliefs. I’m pretty conservative in many ways and wouldn’t have wanted my children to have read these books until around age 16. I’m guessing others would disagree with my assessment, but maybe my view will help some people make their decision. Let me just add, if you’re undecided, I would encourage you to read the series. As I’ve mentioned above, it’s a wonderful story and easy read.
I always read reviews before I buy books. The good and the bad. None of what I read said how slow and monotonous this is. I am about half way thorough the first book and can't make myself pick it back up. I don't feel there is enough depth to the characters. The mystery as to what the villians (vampires) are doing is boring. The werewolves??? Who knows what is their purpose is. The vampires with the exception of the oldest are stupid and incompetent. I know some stories take a while to really get going but I have never NOT been able to push through to the end until now.
I like some humor. A little snark. This didn't have that. It didn't make me feel much of anything so far.
I hate to be so critical about any book. I know the mood I'm in affects how I feel about what I'm reading. Maybe I'll try again sometime and be able to read it. Maybe it will improve, become more action packed, faster paced and have more feeling later in the series. My advice though would be to read it for free, try a sample, or just buy one book then decide whether or not to buy the series.
I was immediately drawn in from page 1. Zoe and all the characters become your friends/family after sharing so many pages together. I've been dreading this moment...finishing the last book. It goes quickly, and the different stories in each book add to the total collection of adventures. I love the authors' notes st the end of each book, as well. I highly recommend delving into this. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
In enjoyed the series as a whole but be the last they were running out of a story line. The twist that was added did not add anything and in my humble opinion was a distraction and unnecessary dull and didn’t contribute to the storyline. Otherwise it was a good series.
Oh boy, these two always deliver a wonderfully snarky, rollercoaster adventure with characters that you love and twists that almost give you whiplash!! And this set is no different. A world to lose yourself in...and one you won't want to leave!!
The world that Theo and Michael created is our world, but things are a bit weird! Zoey, the Grim Reaper, the gods of Olympus and Egypt, and a variety of other characters are intriguing as well as entertaining!
If I had read the individual books, I never would have finished book 2. Most of that book was Zoe's internal dia!og, whining, complaining, and repeatedly rehashing her angst and issues. Books 3 - 7 were better but had A LOT of preaching.
DNF pg39. Honestly the series has potential but I can't get past the drawn out explanation of everything. Not to mention the constant reminder of who she is and how much of a slacker her twin is.
This one is a little more about teamwork....family, friends and foes alike. I really enjoyed Zoey and her adventures with her fellow readers, and Dad is THE Grim Reaper. There are a lot of characters, but the storyline isn't hard to keep up with. This was actually a fun book to read, with lots of action.
