I don't know why it never occurred to me before now, but Minsc is basically the Tick - powerful hero with a brain of mush and a penchant for absurdly unforgettable catch-phrases.
Fortunately, this isn't just Minsc - his adventure group features much more sane characters, and this collection of three 5-issue storylines managed to leave me wanting more, not burned out on any of the characters. It explores various aspects of the Forgotten Realms through action and intrigue, with a series of character-driven one-shots providing a good intro to each member, before throwing them into literal Hell, and then facing them off against Illithids.
Some of the plot threads are predictable, and the sorceress' spell range seemed a bit small (although the importance of wild magic to the plot was a welcome addition), but all told it's a fun group to follow along, and the art does credible service to both the individual characters and the action, with some fabulous landscape spreads interspersed at just the right time. All told, this is a lot of good content for anyone interested in the Forgotten Realms, and especially those with a fondness for miniature giant space hamsters (Boo's standalone issue was a definite highlight).

Picked this one up on a whim, not previously being a dungeons and dragons sort of aficionado, and was pleasantly surprised. Waffled between giving it 4 or 5 stars only because of the very dark, but good, illustrations on dark backgrounds, a common them in graphic novels I don't really care for. However in this instance there was a lot of action, the characters all had distinct personalities, the stories hung together and were easy to follow. This is one of the better graphic works I have read.

Truly a 4.5 star experience because the story could have given us more depth at times. The first part was definitely the weakest with each team member's solo chaptering introducing us to characters who are never explored to the depth they should be. But once the characters team up, and take on the challenges of Avernus & The Cult of the Absolute, everything clicks into page turning fun. The animation, action, and even the humor really land here and Minsc & Boo are as fabulous as always. This really isn't for everyone, but for DnD fans, it's gold.
