Between Heaven and Hell lies The Median. It exists as a place to direct souls to their next destination. When a person dies their life is measured for all its flaws and triumphs. People don’t
know about this though, they couldn’t or they would alter their behavior. As far as the world is
concerned The Median does not exist.

The workers of The Median are people who work as drones to watch over the people of the world and
document their behavior. They don’t eat, sleep, have wants, desires or feelings. They blend in with
every crowd, and are never noticed by ordinary people. Simon is the exception to that. One day he goes to a coffee house he’s been to a thousand times and discovers the cashier remembers him when she shouldn’t. Instead of
reporting it he befriends the girl. Simon tries to convince himself that he can still do his job, and have a friend. But as his work begins to suffer, Simon begins to realize that maybe this is more than just a friendship.

I just finished this book, and I must say . . . I am blown away. For me this was a new story line. Sure I have read the books where you have a team that keeps the demons under control, or the team that cleans up after the underworld creatures that roam the earth.

In this book, we have Simon.

Simon has a job where he is supposed to follow the souls of those that do bad, but not bad enough to be sentenced (you know, to Hell). Keeping track of their goings and comings, just waiting for the day that their good outweigh the bad. Simon does all this without being noticed. He’s not supposed to be noticed. Until one day, Lilly notices him. Thus begins the battle. The battle to do his job, and the battle to explore these feelings he was having . . the feelings he wasn’t supposed to be feeling. Follow in Simon’s footsteps as the pieces to his personal puzzle start to fall into place, and the time comes for decisions to be made.

What would you do? If you weren’t supposed to feel, you weren’t supposed to be noticed, and one day you did and you were?

This was an enjoyable read, one where you don’t want to skip a word. One that leaves you wondering . . what was that guy’s name you think you remember from the other day?

It takes a lot to surprise an editor and even more to write a book that stays with her and gives her chills for weeks to come. Watcher is one of the best books I've read since college. This book will stay with you for a very long time. Simon with enter your heart and stay there. Have Kleenex ready at the end. You can meet Simon and Lilly on October 15. Ms. Cox is as good a writer as Nicholas Sparks, Margaret Mead, or F. Scott Fitzgerald. Don't miss the release of Watcher.

"They just call me Simon...Lilly wasn't even supposed to notice me...What will the Counsel do if they find out about us?"
