Zara and Lessie’s adventure continues in Book 4 of this action packed dragon rider series!
When Zara and Lessie finally make it back to Elantia, the last thing they expect is to find that nearly all of the dragons have gone missing.
Worse, the Zallabarians are cutting a swathe through the country, mowing down the Elantian army as they head straight for the capital. The only chance Zara and Tavarian have at stopping them from destroying Elantia lie in the recovery of the missing dragons.
But finding a horde of dragons that have vanished into thin air is no mean feat, especially when it involves heading straight back into enemy territory. And when Zara stumbles onto a secret regarding the next piece of the dragon heart, she must make a terrible choice between saving all of dragonkind, or saving the world…
Well, they finally boned. Could the author have described it in great detail? Yes. Did they? Unfortunately, no. So if you want smut, this is not it at all. I'm about to go to book 5 with 0 smut. This is some type of achievement for me.
In a time of war, we find ourselves in enemy territory. Yet, even in such dire circumstances, the plot unfolds further, and to my genuine delight, so does the relationship between Zara and Lord Tavarian.
What I particularly appreciated was the reduced separation between them in this book. Can't wait for the next one!
So sad this books tapers off on the easy adventure and more into the authors lack of experience in story building. Or maybe just your typical filler book I was hopeful to avoid with this series. It starts to feel weird to have a romantic relationship between tavarian and Zara since he’s over twice her age and clearly more mature in every way. Especially given the way the relationship started. More and more things don’t make sense (like in previous books in the series but i was able to overlook due to the general flow and feel of the story). They can’t be overlooked in this one as these events are practically all that happens. (Like multiple random strangers giving her things for no reason “for protection” when they literally just met her). *insert eye roll. And so many “not the right time” moments, such as all the soldiers thanking Zara for not being a traitor and saving them when they are quite literally still in the prison. Like, wait until you out and in a safe location?! And Tavarian uncharacteristically expressing his feelings for Zara but telling her to just “think about it”. I do hope it gets better and picks back up into the feel of the first book with the rest of the series.
If you liked the previous books, you'll like this one too. It has all of the same themes, good pacing, a fun story; however, I would give this book 4.5 instead of five because this story is gory and violent. There were a lot of mentions of soldiers being maimed and injured, and battle scenes. There were plenty of scenes that I didn't enjoy in the War of the Dragons.
Triggers: gore, killing, violence, rape
Romance: It's definitely insta-romance, which I don't like because there aren't enough interactions between the two. When Lord T. kisses her in the third book, I didn't feel realistic since they are separated in most books.
At this point, I can't see why Lord T. likes Zara. While Zara is a great main character, her and Lord T. are too different from one another. He seems too good for her at this point.
It was a great story, more on the lines of various quests, obviously with the dangers of a war being fought and much part of the story being held in enemy’s territory. We see some relationship brewing, and a little redemption arc for the main character with their fellow dragon riders. Also the widening of the spectrum of problems, adding the old gods and the hunt for the part of dragon hearts in addition to the very possible loss of her country’s independence.
I just finished book 4 and I’m sooooo happy the series will continue. Full of action, adventure, magic, with a dash of romance and lots of twists and turns. This book, and series, is fast paced in a steampunk fantasy world. Highly recommend this series, especially if you love dragons! For me, I can’t stop reading once I start. This series definitely needs to be read in order, so be sure to start with book 1!
I loved the series at first but the relationships just don’t have any build up no tension at least it’s not actively described it’s more like being implied by actions of the characters or descriptions of their feelings. I wish there was more there. The story like is also derailing me I need something more to engage me in the next book or I’ll probably not read anymore.
I am absolutely devouring these books and am so excited to finish this series off. I'm not normally a fan of fade to blacks but this is well done enough that I don't feel the need to quit it. I love love loveeee the dynamic between the two. The humor is good, and I giggle alot, and the tense/anxious sense definitely produce those emotions for me as well, but I also mentally throw myself into the story too.
This the 4th book in this series. I didn't find out who the target audience is for these books, but if I had to take a guess I would say 10 to 15 years old. There are plenty of escapades for this Dragon rider and her friends. The plot is still a little weak and the characters aren't really growing. This far into the storyline we should know more about all the characters.
This one was good though it does get repetitive with the ongoing of war. One you can get past that there is a good plot. I do feel like this series could have been one large book instead of smaller ones then it could have been edited down with out all the repetitiveness it's suffering from. Looking forward to see how the next part goes. Still liking the series and would recommend it.
I can’t tell you how much I am liking this series - I’ve read 3 books today and it’s kept me up til 2:30 am because I just HAD to know what was happening next.
Jasmine is an excellent writer and the series is engaging and interesting and full of warmth. Well worth a read
I continue to love this series! I'm resting before devouring the next 2 books 'cos they're the last 2 books and I'm not ready to leave these characters any time soon. Excellent. Characters you really root for! I don't easily figure what's gonna happen next and I love that.
Oh boy, this story just keeps growing. In a good way
And now old and weakened Gods get involved in the story. The story is still excellently written and engaging. I will be definitely continuing on to the next book.
Not a bad read, like it enough I'll read book five. Seems a bit everyone is dying and yet,,,, I don't know, can one person really solve all the mysteries? Not really believable in some ways.
Are these books literary masterpieces? No. But my god are they ever fun and quick. I like the way the plot is moving forward to and the slow burn is finally flaring. So much fun
Adventure, war, romance, dragons… this series literally has it all. If the author hurts any of the main characters in the 2 remaining books I’ll probably lose it.
The further along I got with this series. The harder it was to continue reading I feel as though all of the books could’ve been combined into one large book. The writing is very repetitive and just didn’t flow as well as they probably could’ve.
