Peak Romance with wholesome Instalove but adding character development and a great cast of side characters.

+++ I have read Vol, 1-9 in Japanese and I LOVE this series +++

If you enjoy vol 1 even a little I really recommend giving this series a chance. We get a romance that actually goes into the relationship stage and stays there and the characters go from there, which is so rare and when it is done, it is hardly ever this wholesome and dare I say, realistic for high schoolers?

What really makes this series shine, next to the main couple getting developed throughout the volumes is the side cast. I love them so much and they all need the huge romance that the mains have please and thank you.

Needless to say this can go on for 20+ volumes with no complaints from me.

I wish Beastars, which was great overall, hadn't done the main girl dirty the way it did. Even though the authors and vibes are way different, this series feels very much like the author read Beastars and was like "yeah no this romance ain't it" and decided to fix it.

Thank you!

This is not the first "furry" manga I've read, but I think this might be the first one I've read where I deeply enjoyed it! I'm actually even considering picking this up physically because of how deep my enjoyment was!

I decided to give this manga a try thanks to a friend who I know adores the series, and can totally see why! While I did feel a few scenes were a little spicy for me personally (and it's the only reason I'm giving this volume four stars rather than five stars), I LOVED all of the characters! I was genuinely surprised at how invested I was in wanting Mari and one of her friends to genuinely welcome Tsunagu into this school and show others how amazing he is. I appreciated all their "antics" of willingly wanting to do crazy things so they could show others he isn't scary or mean like rumors say beastfolk are. A lot of my favorite scenes stem from seeing all three characters grow in their friendship and Tsunagu really "loosening up" and seeing he's not alone. It was absolutely wonderful!

When it comes to Mari, I really really liked her as a female lead! I deeply admire when characters are not blinded by prejudice, especially in light of when everyone else around them is and they instead choose to see that individual as an individual. I will say that she DOES do that, but she really is fascinated by him being different than herself. She doesn't see him being a beastfolk as something to look down upon and wants others to feel the same because she feels completely captivated by him. I definitely enjoyed seeing her feelings grow for Tsunagu and how it really was love at first for her. I'm also very much hoping Tsunagu will return her feelings!

And speaking of him, I also loved Tsunagu! My heart went out to him so often because I don't want him to endure the bullying he is simply because he's not "normal." I was very surprised by how much he went out of his way to not show anger and instead help others who only spoke hate about him even if it was indirectly (such as saying I hate all beastfolk). It really spoke a lot about his character, which is why I think I loved the "trio" so much and how they all really came together as friends.

When it comes to the art, I LOVEDDDD the chibi moments! They were so cute and just found it all really really enjoyable!

I'm definitely interested in reading more and seeing where this story goes! I think if you're looking for a romance where they start as friends and see prejudice overcome (even if slowly), then this is definitely one I would recommend!

From omegaverse to furries...at least I know it's true when I say that I'll read anything. This was kind of an awkward story, like it thought it was much more romantic than it actually is in that "this isn't really okay" way YA fiction has sometimes. Not terrible, and I'll probably read the next volume, but also very much not for everyone, whether you like furries or not.

Is this everyone's cup of tea? Probably not. Am I a furry? Not even a speck. I honestly don't even pay attention to the fact that he is part dog/wolf. I like the concept of another species being introduced into the world because honestly just humans is a fucking bore. And it does a fine job at showing us that we are shit no matter what except for a few who are willing to be good ass humans.

Now with that out of the way, I know the author from her previous works. It had 2 volumes and the ending was utter shit. It was rushed and we got literally nothing. Now though, I am hoping everything connects because that would be great!

I picked this up because I've been enjoying the anime. The beastfolk is clearly a racial allegory, which unfortunately gets muddled as they also go into heat and have trouble controlling their desires. While I don't think the mangaka means harm, I understand if this isn't someone's cup of tea. So far, I do enjoy it: the two leads have chemistry together and I love seeing them interact. On top of that, the art is beautifully drawn. Chibi Tsunagu is just adorable.

I definitely wasn't ready for how surprisingly horny this was, just because I expected it to be a bit more of a standard, wholesome coming of age/romance story with beastfolk lore mixed in for a bit of extra texture. But most of this volume seems to be setting up an A plot in which the main love interest, Tsunagu, is unable to control his instinctual feelings to the female lead Asaka's pheromones. And I'll be honest... I just don't really like this plot that much. It doesn't interest me much in Omegaverse to watch someone be unable to control themselves to the point of pushing someone else down, and it doesn't really interest me here (especially since they're high schoolers, I just find it a little unpleasant to read).

Though I will say that this "heat" plot that they're setting up is a bit more interesting and off the beaten path in what would otherwise be a fairly standard shojo setup (with beastfolk aspects mixed in of course). I feel a bit like a square for being like "They shouldn't have gone a different route that is relevant specifically to him being a beastman, they should have just done something normal and standard like every other shojo romance!"... but unfortunately, I would really like to see these two in a romance manga that has nothing to do with heats. They actually have really amazing chemistry, and him constantly pushing her down is the only thing that bothers me, even if she's obviously into it. They make an adorable couple, and in my opinion, seeing them gradually falling more in love and addressing these pheromone issues later would be more organic than starting out at 100. That's just me though!

My big plus in this is that I really liked the art style. Tsunagu, the dog man himself, looks a little awkward at certain angles which makes me feel like the mangaka maybe isn't that experienced drawing animals? but the main character Asaka has a face that really reminds me of old school Peach Pit, the volumes of Shugo Chara I read as a kid. She has these classic big anime eyes and detailed hair strands that I just adore!
The other plus is that I liked the little side plot about Asaka's friend Ayano who wants to be a writer. I feel like this book is setting up for a really good friend group to blossom. I also love Tsunagu's goals and character motivation of wanting to be a doctor for the beastfolk on the other side of the wall -- again, I feel square-ish, but I was way more interested in that than the sexytimes the volume kept setting up.

For me, there's just a bit too much working against this to keep me invested in continuing. They've also already sort of introduced a love triangle in this and that is my biggest pet peeve in any romance ever (unless it lasts like, one chapter). The fact that most of this book is about Tsunagu wanting to mate with Asaka (and vice versa tbh) is just not really what I wanted from this book and that's really on me, but overall it definitely wasn't bad or anything, and I think any fan of a high school shojo romance would find this to be a good time.

4★'s Adolescent furry romance meets spice and heart. Follow an anthropomorphic hero navigating love, culture, and identity in a story that truly tugs at your heart.

Kimito Koete Koininaru is a sequel to 'Hana and the Beastman', dives into the struggles anthropomorphic beast people face trying to live alongside humans despite ongoing prejudice.

The story follows Mari, who becomes attracted to Tsunagu (Sana and Hana's hybrid son), a kind-hearted beastfolk classmate who often gets bullied. As they grow closer and fall in love, they team up with friends to fight discrimination and make a change.

What I love about this manga is how it tackles heavy issues like racism while still delivering a sweet, fluffy romance, and showing the importance of friendship. The characters always communicate openly, share their feelings honestly, and their relationship is based on real consent, which is so important.

My only complaint is the love triangle subplot. While Mari and Tsunagu’s feelings are mutual and clear, the persistent third party adds unnecessary tension. Like pls, move on already!

p.s. this rating is based on volumes 1 to 3 because, well, English translations stopped there — so if there’s a big twist in volume 4, don’t blame me! 😅

I LOVED this! I’m so happy that I decided to pick up Manga again. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking! I enjoyed the romance and the world building. I can’t wait to see where this goes. The only thing I’m upset about is that only the first three books have been translated into English 🙃 and the translation releases are super slow 🫠🫠🫠 I need to pick up Japanese 😅

Quería leerlo porque acaban de estrenar el anime y también me gustó muchísimo la precuela. Un total acierto haber empezado por el manga, porque estoy vibrando con ellos. Me han encantado los dos y quiero continuarlo de inmediato.

I honestly cannot know what will happen with this series since it's still ongoing, but the compiled chapters so far steal my heart like no other. Honestly, I have Beauty and the Beast to thank for my personal—if not sexual—awakening, since that particular tale made me realize that I am 100% into interspecies relationships (look, I'm here trying so hard not to use that f word) because I am one of those girls who are actually disappointed when Beast turned into a prince. A human prince. Like, really? So boring. Very uninspiring.

This is a teen drama, a love story between a human girl with a half-human, half-beast boy (commonly referred to as 'beastfolk' in this universe). It mainly explores the theme of discrimination, interpersonal differences, even self-worth, personal boundaries, and sexuality. I love how the heroine, Asaka Mari, albeit not depicted as 'a badass', does have very interesting personalities. She doesn't hesitate to do physical tasks (like, climbing the wall when she arrives at the school gate a little too late) and she doesn't act like a weakling; she's just a regular teenage girl with a regular physical prowess. She isn't absurdly meek either (note: I HATE meek female protagonists because it's beyond tired). I very much enjoy reading her thought process, the way she questions her feelings and her entire worldview, and how she plans how to deal with everything she's facing. Here, every romance and intimate scenes are told carefully and frankly? Everything feels SO HEALTHY. I died from cuteness and wholesomeness quite a few times while reading this series, and came back to life because I wanted to reread the scene over and over.

Another best thing happening in this manga is Aida Yukihiro, Hidaka Tsunagu's buddy. The rivalry and friendship depicted here feels so real my heart actually hurts. Yukihiro is so mature and cool, he's such a dreamboat. I can't help but want them all to be happy at the end of the day.

I actually saw some of the anime show before reading this, and since I loved the show so much, I decided to start reading the stories too. Mari lived a normal day to day life as a student going about her studies, hanging out with her friends, but also lived in a world where there was another type of species known as, Beast folk. With the arrival of a new student who was, Beast folk, it was the talk of the school, but also the newest change in Mari’s life.

In addition, before reading this book I had actually read, “Hana and the Beastman” which followed the MMC’s parents falling in love! Still would really like to own a physical copy of their story, but nonetheless it made reading this story even better knowing a little more of the background of the world the characters lived in as well as knowing the MMC’s parents. Anyways, this was a cute and fun story. The show is definitely following along to the source material and I’m hoping it keeps going that way. Mari’s connection to the MMC is sweet, and in the beginning innocent. As Mari and the MMC get closer, there’s an underlying desire that grows stronger. As a Beastman, there are things that even the MMC is still coming to terms with, and I think it’s relatable in the since of when being young and finding your first relationship of sorts, there’s a lot you don’t know and are trying to figure out. In Mari and the MMC’s case, it’s also the battle of judgment surrounding Beast folk.

With the next volumes, I’m excited to read more about these amazing characters and hopefully get even more sweet and loving moments between our two main characters.

I guess I should start with the trigger warning, this series is definitely one for the furry fans. I also have to say it's very horny. If you can't handle the concept of an animal person and a human dating this is definitely not one for you.

Moving on, I admit this is a very guilty pleasure. I really am enjoying the anime and I'm looking forward to getting extra content through the manga. It's another one of those forbidden romances for high school students in the throes of puberty. What do you do when the smell of arousal puts you into heat? Imagine how embarrassing and scary that would be?! That aside the characters are very sweet and interesting. Some of the animal segregation stuff feels like metaphorical references to actual prejudice that we face in modern society. This one of course is a lot more extreme and offers distractions going into very different genre and fetishes... However, if you look past that it's really just a story between two kids falling in love. Not quite as much Romeo and Juliet but not too far off either so far. The charm of sweet innocence overcoming racial prejudice is definitely one that I enjoy reading.

As far as the relations going on, it's pretty much PG-13 all the way from what I know in the anime... I don't know yet if the manga sticks to that level or not, but I would be surprised if it doesn't.

A high school romance about tolerance. Beastfolk, shut in their enclaves, are finally given a chance to go to school with humans, one at a time. Mari Asaka’s school is chosen, and one beast boy, Tsunagu Hidaka, attends her class. From the start, she’s attracted to him, because he’s kind and helpful. But other students bully him constantly. Only Yukihiro Aida, a nice boy in their class, defends him. He even comes up with a plan to make others accept Tsunagu. Only problem is, Mari’s nearness triggers primitive reaction in Tsunagu.

This was a good start to a series, if a bit heavy for all the negativity. Mari taking a blame for Tsunagu’s reaction was a bit annoying too. But it was nice how they managed to change peoples’ reactions, one person at a time. And there might be a triangle drama in the works too, not that Yukihiro has a change with how smitten Mari is with Tsunagu. Nevertheless, I’m not sure I’ll continue with this, but if you’re looking for a school romance with a bit more substance, give it a try.

4 stars - I discovered this series because of an anime adaption trailer earlier this year, and while only two manga had been released in English, Yuzuki-san's prequel work, 'Hana and the Beast Man', was complete. As such, I read that and was kind of shocked after seeing the cutesy anime trailer as HATBM had explicit scenes in almost every chapter.

With the anime coming out soon I decided to finally pick this series up and was happy to see it matched up with what I had originally expected, though there were occasional moments where HATBM shone through. Hidaka-kun is fighting his beast side, and I don't imagine that this show would have been picked up and advertised by Crunchyroll if it was heavily pornographic, so I'm looking forward to the tension that this unique love story will give us.

Its a story about fitting in, making friends, and first love with more than unusual challenges, and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Rating Note: I thought we were over this by now, but clearly not: this may say it's T (Teen) rated, but it most definitely should be OT (Older Teen) at the least, possibly even M (Mature) (I've read M manga that was tamer than this was!!). Just because they're in high school does not automatically give it a T rating. And it's not even sub-rated S (sensuality/sexuality) for content?! N (nudity) they give it for a shirtless beastman, but no S for the heavy make-out sessions. Reader beware!

10/25 My curiosity got the better of me when I found this on the library shelf, but it was what I expected (despite it's deceptively lesser rating): a "mating" romance. And the human is even worse than the beastman! It's an interesting world concept tho, and I must admit since I had volume 2 I decided to continue. Given the heavy, animalistic make-out sessions tho, definitely for older readers.

finally gave in to my curiosity. it was cute!

althoooooo ngl now i wanna read a romance between a human and a CAT beastman/woman.

this is a story about the son of the author’s previous work and a human girl. they’re both freshmen in high school so the it’s actually milder than the previous title. the artstyle has improved too. overall i enjoyed it. but it wasn’t amazing or anything. the fmc was more or less the same as the previous fmc (who’s the mother of the current male lead).

i just wished her personality is different. she’s your typical shy, kind, positive, happy-go-lucky main character whom everyone loves and falls for.

but thank god the mmc is different compared to his dad. he’s more gentle and timid, while his dad was all macho and masculine, alpha bro energy lol.

4.5★ rounding up - this gave me big beastars vibes, with the same heavy focus on stereotypes, bullying, racism, etc.

strong start to the series, I wasn't expecting for this to get so serious but I really enjoyed it! I knocked off half a star though, because it seems like the end was introducing a love triangle....which I am so bummed about because the trio's dynamic was so cute and perfect as it is D:

This first volume was fantastic. It sets up the world and characters so well. We follow a beastman and a girl, who go to high school together. It not only shows how their relationship develops but also shows the prejudice beastmen face on a daily basis. I really like the social satire this manga discusses. How people that are different can be abused and used so easily. I'm glad more stories like this are being made. Can't wait to see how this story develops.

Oh my GOSH. The cuteness of this manga! It was so wholesome and endearing and I can tell it will continue to just pull at my heartstrings.

I also like the tiny bit of added spice with him being attracted to her through pheromones. And I like how the author has handled this so far - it’s never been uncomfortable to read.

So excited to read more of this series!
