The missing husband has all the ingredients for a perfect thrill. There is the mystery of a missing husband, with a main character who never gave up trying to find him. Then strange things starts happening, and Lori (the MC) must keep looking for answers. The suspense was there, so it made a decent thriller. But it never peaked like I hoped. I wasn’t too invested in the outcome, I didn’t FEEL the paranoia, it didn’t get under my skin. I had a inkling about the first twist. Moreover, when the epilogue arrived, I wanted to just know what happened next, not reading about descriptions of nature or packing down things.

Nearly seven years ago, Lori Mortimer’s adoring husband, Howie, left for work one day and disappeared into thin air. Left reeling with her teenage daughter, Molly, their lives went from idyllic and happy to lost and overwhelmed.

Overnight, Lori sees her once happy-go-lucky child embrace a bad crowd while Lori herself falls into a deep pit of despair. She even steps away from her fulfilling career as an investigative journalist, choosing to begin writing books in isolation instead.

But even that does not seem to calm the sadness inside, so Lori picks up her life from her once happy home and moves from one remote locale to another, surrounded only by her two loving springer spaniels.

But her old life is about to come calling in the form of convicted murderer Frankie Evans. Recently released from prison on a technicality, he is adamant about meeting with her despite their rather heated prior relationship. After all, Lori was the reason he found himself behind bars in the first place after her rabid chase to prove he was guilty of murder.

Now, however, he says he has information to share about her long missing husband. Despite her misgivings, Lori simply cannot image ignoring the possibility that Frankie might know something about her husband’s disappearance. Determined, Lori begins to follow the deeply buried trail of secrets. Because no matter how dark and unsettling the truth may be, it is the only thing that will finally set her free.

Fast-paced, addictive, and a sublime work of suspense, Her Missing Husband had me from hello. Stocked full of glorious red herrings, I kept guessing where I thought this story was headed, but couldn’t, for the life of me, work it out before the rather stunning reveal. And let me tell you, the heaps of twists and turns took this already stellar storyline and gave it that special something that each AJ Campbell novel is always bound to deliver.

With a plot that could easily rival any blockbuster film, I was gobsmacked over and over again by the endearing relationships and true-to-life characters. If there was only one teeny, tiny flaw it was the somewhat over-the-top climax. Regardless, I still found myself utterly captivated, reading faster and faster while also wishing the book would never end.

But my absolute favorite aspect to this psychological thriller was easily Lori Mortimer herself. A no nonsense woman who just wanted to uncover what happened to her adoring husband, she wouldn’t stop until she learned the truth. At the same time, however, there was a vulnerability to her that made her both endearing and overwhelmingly likable. The perfect combination for a leading lady, in my opinion.

Point blank, just as every novel I’ve read by Campbell has simply been a home run, Her Missing Husband was no exception. A thrilling ride that I already wish I could take all over again with fresh eyes, I strongly recommend grabbing this one as soon as you get a chance. Rating of 4.5 stars.

Do not pick this book up and expect to read just a few chapters. You need to clear your day and be ready to be immersed in this twisty and dark mystery. AJ Campbells book have a way for getting your attention very quickly and have you attached to the characters. Although Lori makes some questionable decisions, I really wanted things to turn out for the best for her and her daughter Molly.

This is so much more than the story of a missing husband. There are multiple threads going on and the author brings them together so well. Always something happening, the tension stays high throughout. I loved Lori’s life, isolated in Wales with her 2 dogs and a local coffee shop. That is all she needs. But her life is turned upside down when somebody she helped put away is released from prison and wants to talk to her.

A big thanks to the author for having me a part of her readers team. He this one on Kindle Unlimited at the end of the month.

Hi readers
Here are some fun facts about my new book Her Missing Husband.

1. The inspiration for this book came in the summer of 2022, when I visited one of my close friends who owns a café in North Wales. My son spent a week working in my friend’s café for his work experience placement while my husband and I toured the local area. While we were walking in the mountains one morning I thought, it’s so desolate around here. I wondered what it would be like to live so remotely. Lori Mortimer came into my mind, and I started plotting!

2. During the journey home, I started writing Lori’s story and completed the first 500 words.

3. At the time, I was in the middle of writing The Wrong Key, which I put aside to continue with this story. After about 20,000 words, I returned to The Wrong Key and didn’t return to finish Her Missing Husband until I had published The Wrong Key in January this year.

4. At 80,564 words, this book is my longest, beating Don’t Come Looking by 600 or so words.

5. I had two titles for this book – Her Missing Husband and Seven Years Missing. My thriller author buddies all voted for Her Missing Husband which swayed me.

6. The story features two dogs named by one of my readers, Barbara Woods Wright, who, by coincidence, lives in Wales! She chose the names Misty and Shadow, which suits them perfectly.

7. I think it has one of the best plot twists of all of my books!

8. I have dedicated this book to all my readers. I couldn’t continue writing without you.

AJ is the queen of misdirection and mistrust. She has me questioning even the nicest of characters and the real strength in her writing is making her characters ordinary and relatable. You feel like they could be your own friends, neighbours or colleagues.

I warmed to Lori instantly and connected with her struggles in being the parent left to pick up the pieces. Making her an author and sharing insights was also a nice added touch. I did question how she had been an investigative journalist at times when she couldn’t find out what happened to her own husband. However I should have known that it would all eventually become clear.

The isolated setting was perfect for an author needing solitude but not for my poor nerves as the tension ramped up. As more and more characters started looking exceedingly guilty they were all fair game and I could only hope it wasn’t who I suspected.

This is a nerve shredding, thrilling whodunnit with a great final ta dah and in my opinion her best book yet.

"You're a dead man walking, Lori. Live with it."

Seven years ago, Lori’s husband Howie left to go to work and never made it. He hasn't been since. For seven long years Lori and her daughter Molly have had no answers and lived in limbo. But when someone Lori helped put in prison contacts her saying he has information, she thinks she's finally going to get answers. Unfortunately it doesn't go to plan and Lori starts investigating again, only to find that the truth is so much worse than what she imagined.

I've been in a bit of a reading slump this month and this book helped push me out of it. Great storyline, fast-paced and lots of twists. I did figure out what happened to Lori’s husband quite a while before it was revealed but luckily the reveal also came with some extra information to keep it exciting.
Another great read from AJ Campbell. Thank you so much for sending me a copy.

Such a heart pounding story that you will not want to put down! If there is one author I want you to try out, it’s AJ Campbell!

While I figured out one plot twist, I would have never guess the reasoning behind it. The ending was so surprising and suspenseful, I could feel my heart beating out of my chest!

It’s hard to pick my favorite between The Phone Call and Her Missing Husbands but they will both forever stick in my mind! Do yourself a favor and add this to your TBR!

****Many thanks for AJ Campbell for providing me with a copy in turn for an honest review.

HER MISSING HUSBAND, was full of mystery. Lori has barely been making ends meet after her husband, Howie, disappeared seven years ago. Being an investigative journalist and helping solve the case involving Frank Evans helped her career take off. When Frank is let out of prison earlier than expected, she is shocked. But Lori is even more surprised when Frank claims to know information about her husband's disappearance. As she follows new leads, she ends up discovering some things she never thought were possible.

I really enjoyed HER MISSING HUSBAND, I was invested in finding out the truth about Howie's disappearance. I knew A.J. Campbell would surprise me in some major way, as her books always do. For that reason, I couldn't put this book down. All I can say is grab yourself a copy! If you love mystery/thrillers as much as I do, this is sure to be a winner for you!

Many thanks to A.J. Campbell for my #gifted ARC.

I love all of A. J. Campbell books! She is a good writer with satisfying endings which I love! This book was no exception! I waited and waited anticipating it’s release! A former investigative journalist and current novelist, Lori is still grieving her missing husband of 7 years! She also has some unpleasant stalkers due to her investigating days! So, the stress abounds. Soon she is hearing things outside her home and strange occurrences happen inside her home. She is fortunate to have the support of her best friend and husband who is also part owner in her own husband’s business. Then, there is the coffee shop owner, Ray, who she visits while walking her dogs. As she struggles to complete her novel, she learns that someone knows what happened to her husband. She follows all clues she can find until we come to the shocking ending. Then, there is another twist! Perfect read for those lazy afternoons!

Lori’s husband has been missing for the past seven years and is presumably dead. As an investigative journalist, Lori has made a few enemies during her career - sending some of them to prison or destroying their lives - as they claim.

She’s a full time writer of fiction now, putting her investigative nature to the side, but someone is messing with her life, sending menacing notes and stirring up drama in Lori’s life; but who could it possibly be and what do they know about her missing husband.

This was an enjoyable read. I think with every new book AJ Campbell gets better and better with telling her stories. While she’s always been a talented writer - there’s just something better with each new book she releases.

Through all the twists and turns of this story, your head will be spinning. This book is a great mystery full of suspense that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.

Seven years ago, Lori’s husband Howie went to work and never returned home. Lori and her teenage daughter Molly were deeply troubled by Howie’s disappearance and lack of answers. Now, Molly is about to start university and has a new boyfriend, while Lori struggles with whether or not she should start the legal paperwork to declare her husband dead. Then, Frankie Evans, a man Lori helped convict for murder, walks free and claims to have inormation about Howie. Lori’s whole world is about to be turned upside down again.

I became a fan of AJ Campbell’s earlier this year with her book “The Missing Key”, and eagerly dug into her backlist. ”Her Missing Husband” solidified her as one of my auto-buy authors! With well-developed characters and a tightly executed plot, she once again delivers a solid thriller with twists I did NOT see coming! The mystery surrounding Howie’s disappearance had me on the edge of my seat and I was eager to see how the story ended.

“Her Missing Husband” releases May 30th! Thank you to AJ Campbell for the ARC!

Seven years ago, Lori's husband went missing, sending her teen daughter spiraling out of control. At the time, Lori was a journalist who was tenacious and had the perseverance of a rabid dog, she wouldn't let go of a story. As a result she made some enemies, most notably a criminal named Frankie. Frankie claimed his innocence and tried to bait Lori with a promise that he had info on her husband Howie.

Today, Frankie is getting released, claiming he is rehabilitated and found God. He wants to meet with Lori and finally tell her about Howie.

In pursuit of the truth, terrible secrets from past and present emerge.

This was a real page turner. AJ Campbell has mastered the craft of making it impossible for the reader to stop at the end of the chapter. It's like dozens of cliff hangers, having you beg for more.

I was anxious to see this one resolved, and was completely satisfied with the ending. She also cleaned up all the seemingly loose ends. The last 2 to 3 chapters were a perfect close to the story.

I loved Lori's character, her daughter Molly and local friend Ray.

This book is written by one of my favorite authors! This book is probably my favorite of hers! It was suspenseful, intriguing, great characters and just when you think it's over, bam 💥 another surprise!

The story is about a woman named Lori. Lori seems to have the perfect life, a doting husband, great daughter and a job as a journalist. She is in the process of putting a criminal, Frankie, in jail and making her big break. Until on day her husband goes missing, someone has to know something. Fast forward, seven years, Lori is now living a life of solitude with her dogs, but everything seems to be falling apart. She is questioning what happened to her husband, her daughter is putting her life back together, and Frankie is released from jail. She can't seem to trust anyone!

Her husband is missing, with no body found and no explanation she refuses to think worst case scenario. A man recently freed she helped to convict, a struggling career and a daughter living with addiction. Safe to say the cards are stacked against our main character Lori in her search for answers.

For as much as I thought I'd figured it out mid way through reading, I'll admit I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. Not so much as a major plot twist more like multiple subtle bends in the road that kept you turning the pages right to the very end!

With each page turn, the tension builds, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing until the very end. 🌪️😱 A rollercoaster of emotions, this book is a masterclass in storytelling that will leave you breathless.

Im a huge fan of this AJ Campbell, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, and it did not disappoint! 🙌💫 The characters are vividly portrayed, the plot is intricately woven, and the suspense is palpable. This book.. I honestly couldn’t have put this down if I tried. One of those types of books you just want to sit and read until it’s over.

Her Missing Husband was stuffed full of twists and turns at every corner and that plot twist. Slow burn mystery-thrillers are not my thing and this definitely wasn’t a slow burn! The tension and suspense mixed with the twist and turns made this such a fun and quick read.

I’ve never read AJ Campbell before this, but I think I might have to go back and check out some of her other works.. I’m thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed this read!

This had me gripped tight and emotionally invested. This starts out as a psychological thriller and quickly starts veering into dangerous territory. I was immediately suspicious of everyone, so I guess I was onto the right perpetrator in that way 🤣 but my gut was guiding me in the right direction, just like the main character’s guy was leading her. Definitely go check this one out!

Lori was an investigative reporter when her husband simply vanished into thin air 7 years ago. Since then, she’s been moving around year after year, writing books. She no longer has the curiosity to investigate. Until she sees a man she helped put behind bars is being let out on a technicality. The last time she saw him, he told her he knew something about her husband’s disappearance. It doesn’t matter to her that he is going to want his revenge, she needs to find out where her husband is.

4.5⭐️

A suspenseful psychological thriller full of revenge and secrets. The red herrings had me totally undecided whether Lori’s missing husband was dead or alive. Just when I thought I had it figured out a small piece of information would change my view. While I guessed a couple things correctly about Howie there was still so much more that happened. I really enjoyed Lori’s character and how her past decisions came back to haunt her at times. She was easy to connect with and I appreciated that she based her actions not on just emotional alone. She wanted to figure out the truth but did it in a smart way for the most part. I loved the fast paced and the shorter chapters. The twists were well placed and at times I felt like I wanted to know the ending more than Lori did herself. The ending was great and wrapped up nicely.

This was my first-ever AJ Campbell novel so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but y’all, I loved it.

The mystery had me absolutely invested, wondering how the whole situation would unfold. I needed to know what happened to her Lori’s husband probably as much as she did. 😅 My wheels were turning and I was birthing theories left and right.

As with all AJ Campbell’s books, I am always immediately drawn into the book and they are always so difficult to put down! The chapters are short, which I love for my ADHD brain. Her characters are so well written and just draws the reader into wanting to know more about them. You definitely don’t see the twists coming! Overall, definitely one I would recommend if you love fast paced psychological thrillers!

This is the first book that I've read by this author and was completely drawn in by the front cover and tag. I love the isolated cottage scene which always makes for a great setting for a good psychological thriller.

When I read the blurb, I knew that this was going to be one heck of a read.

Lori and Howie lived the perfect life together in the city with their teenage daughter, Molly. One day, Howie leaves for work, but never returns.
Years later and investigations turned up nothing - but how can nobody know anything about where he went?

Devastated, Lori retreats from the city but when her past comes looking - in the form of Frankie, a convicted murderer, who she helped put behind bars, now free.
But more than knowing he's coming - he states he has news about where her husband is!

I mean, this sounds so intriguing and I knew there were going to plenty of twists and turns along the way to the truth.

I immediately wanted to know what happened to Howie, even though we only "met" him briefly, but I also felt that little bit of doubt about whether it actually was sinister or not?
This sparked my mistrust in everyone else too!

I really felt for Lori, having to deal with her own despair and fear but also staying strong for her understandably troubled daughter. As a mum it's easy to put yourself in that same position even though the situation was so extreme.
I think the characters were well thought out and presented but also found their development interesting too.

I loved the way Campbell draws us in from the start and grips you right until the end. This was fast paced and tense with a great plot. The twists were shocking - even whilst I was waiting for them to happen!

This was an excellent read and I have already added more by this author to my wishlist.

I always love @ajcampbellauthor’s thrillers and I say that each new one is my favorite, but I truly enjoyed Her Missing Husband!

Lori was living her best life with her husband and daughter, but one day her husband vanishes without a trace. She was an investigative journalist who helped put away a famous case. She becomes reclusive and a little paranoid; changing houses yearly and becomes an author where she can stay close to him. As it’s approaching the 7 year mark where she can have her husband legally proclaimed dead, she can’t help be feel like she’s giving up on him. Around this same time, the criminal she helped incarcerate is out now on a technicality and he claims to know what happened to her husband.

This book had so many twists! There was the whole backstory with her big case, her daughter falling in with the wrong crowd after her father’s disappearance, bookkeeping errors with their business, and just so many shady characters! I really liked Lori and felt for her when she’s deciding what to do about the proclamation. I also loved her two pups and they were such a support to Lori.

Thank you Amanda for the gifted ebook. Her Missing Husband is out now and available with Kindle Unlimited!

This was a quick thriller read that had what I thought was the ending and then the 3 months later follow up chapters held its own little surprises. This had a nice build up of suspense. It also had an interesting family dynamic between Lori and her daughter, Molly (both traumatized differently from the disappearance).

Set in Whales, Lori’s husband has been missing for almost 7 years. Lori has been moving around every year in a limbo hoping her husband will return.

When a man from Lori’s investigative journalist past gets out of prison, he contacts Lori allegedly a changed man with information about Lori’s husband.

Lori also has been getting threatening messages from a man she reported for child abuse many years ago.

Between all that along with her creepy landlord and things getting moved around in her house, Lori recommits herself to finding answers about her husband. BUT AT WHAT COST?!?

This is a heart stopping pulse racing story about betrayal, revenge, faith and love that was so hard to put down. Lori is a former investigative journalist who is now a best selling author. Her husband left for work one morning and vanished into thin air. He's been missing for seven years. Using her investigative skills Lori tries to figure out what happened to him while holding out hope he'd return one day with a great story. What happens next is twist after twist until the details are revealed. If you want a fabulous thriller that you might stay up all night to finish, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.

Wow, this book had me hooked. I will pop the synopsis below but in this book we follow Lori who's husband has been missing for nearly 7 years. After helping put Frankie Evans away for a crime he claims not to have committed, Lori is shaken to find that he has gotten early release.

There was so many twists and turns that I did not see coming. It kept me on the edge of my seat and constantly turning the page.
A.J has written this so well that I will admit some nights I was genuinely up, double and tripple checking the locks. I felt so connected to the characters and the story.

Thank you A.J for letting me be apart of this tour. I cannot wait to read more of your books!!
