Subaru makes history with his friends after reaching the unreachable tower deep in an unpassable land that even Reinhard finds inhospitable. Waiting for them is a Sage who is quite different from all the stories...not to mention several tests set up centuries earlier to judge the worthiness of visitors seeking the untold knowledge resting within the tower. If they pass, access to the hidden wisdom of the legendary Sage may help them find a way to save Rem and the other victims of the Witch Cult. Fail...and they might not leave alive...
3 Stars I am so conflicted with this volume to the point I am not sure how to rate it.
So we get quite a few developments in this book, the new characters Shaula and Reid are interesting? So Shaula as a character is mysterious and is interesting lore wise too, however her actual personality I found to be quite annoying (this is opinion based though). And Reid is just a terrible person but I do understand that is due to him being a villain in a way.
The story and plot of things happening is actually pretty solid. While a tower arc isn't exactly new its done well and is very intriguing. The mysteries are great and at times even gripping. The structure is well done aswell.
The other characters have some good development mainly Julius, Emilia and even Ram. So the twist at the end, while it is a good twist and of I hadn't been spoiled for it would have surprised me, was Subaru losing his memories. The whole memory loss thing is getting a little old in this series like it happens a little too much idk. And I am worried this is going to lead to a repeat character arc. I hope this isn't too long of a thing and he regains his memories in the next book or two otherwise I think it could feel a little repetitive and frustrating as character relationships are just wiped and all his development but I'll try and be open minded when reading the next books.
Overall this in intriguing and hasn't fully lost itself in its length yet and can still make for a good read. So I'll probably finish this arc and decide my thoughts overall afterwards.

The dialog can be a bit tricky to follow, don't always know who's saying what... And sometimes the conversations feel like something might've been lost in translation. But the characters, the art, and the story are all great. When I finished the anime, I had to know what was next. These light novels don't disappoint.
I thought this book was pretty good up until the WTF cliffhanger ending that was randomly added. Before that we were making our way up the Pleiades tower and Julius seemed to be getting some character development.
