Jay-z said, “You can’t turn a bad girl good, but once a good girls’ gone bad, she’s gone forever,” and he was absolutely right! Jordan Williams was a living example. For most of her life, Jordan lived by the book. If it wasn’t the right thing to do, you could bet your money on Jordan not doing it. That’s until she played with fire and got burned by Emerson Campbell.

Brianna Hill had to learn the hard way— that Jordan was never a good girl. She was just a bad girl found out. Brianna watched her best friend go from Ms. Goodie-to-shoe to The Coldest Hoe Ever in a blink of an eye. She was more than heartbroken but there was nothing she could do to stop Jordan. I didn’t see a warning message but there is DV & rape in this book. I thought Jordan was snake but laws Jasmine had her beat. I don’t see how Jordan would even get w/ Emerson knowing how he did Brianna. Briannas mom called Jordan a fraud without knowing her says a lot. I hope Emerson get his even though he technically got his.

4.3/5

There were a lot of grammatical errors when it came to dialogue. A lot of times I couldn’t tell when one dialogue ended and another began so it was kind of hard to tell who was talking when there was banter between multiple characters.

I’m not sure why Jordan even wanted to be with Emerson behind Brianna when she saw how he treated her. He literally physically abused her every chance he got; she WITNESSED it more than one occasion, and she still decided to mess around with him. It was bold of her to assume that he wouldn’t do the same thing to her. Messing around with your friend’s man is already crazy but to mess around with your friend’s man who ain’t shit is BANANAS.

Brianna was very emotionally manipulative to Jordan. Anytime she was going through something she expected her to just drop everything and be by her side. She would damn near throw tantrum just to get her to come out with her when she was sad as if Jordan didn’t have her own things to deal with in her life.

Jasmine wanted to be grown so bad when all she had to do was go to school and live her easy life. Sorry to say it but the things she went through she brought on herself all because she wanted to seduce a grown ass man smh.

On another note I understood that Jordan was angry at Jasmine for what she did but at the same time she was still a child. At this point it was clear the type of man that Emerson so for her to leave her 14 YEAR OLD niece there by after she told him that s Jasmine was the one that gave him HIV was fucked up.

Emerson was… wow I don’t even have the words. I think we can all agree that he was the fucking villain in this story.

**There should definitely be a few trigger warnings**
I would’ve been in handcuffs, orange jumpsuit, court date pending. No hesitation.
The way some women lose all sense, logic, and dignity over a man needs to be studied. Emerson had folks acting unwell, making decisions that defied common sense, self-respect, and reality. The chaos? Unnecessary. The spiraling? Painful to watch. A full mess from start to finish and can't wait for book 2.

It’ll be your own friends!
Jordan and Brianna have been friends for quite some time, and they have experience the ups and downs in life. Emerson is Brianna‘s boyfriend and he has his own hidden agenda. I listened to this via audio it was very entertaining and there were more plot twist in the story to keep anyone interested. I’m currently listening to book 2..

I wasn't ready!

I literally read this entire book with my jaw hanging! I was not ready for all the drama going on! Where do I even start? Emerson is one sick sob, him and Jordan deserve every horrible thing that
comes there way. Only he took the coward way out. And for Jasmine, whewwww SMH, somebody needs to throw her little nasty hot behind in a locked room because she is a lost sole. And poor Brianna, I hope she boss's up and get her mind right. Now she knows Jordan is a garbage friend. Throw her trifling self in the trash.

So the name of the book needs to be changed to “The Weakest Hoe Ever” cause all these hoes was weak. If you like drama, mess, bullsh*t, and betrayal, this is your book. If you’re looking for character growth or a happy ending, you might want to sit this one out. You know something is wrong when the most likable character is a homeless crackhead. This review is no shade to the author, she definitely meant it to read the way it does. Read the trigger warning!!!

Jordan and Brianna are friends, but they do not follow the code. Don't let a man come between you. Emerson comes between them and not in a good way. He proves that he is not who he should be when he come in contact with Jordan, Brianna and her niece Jasmine. Karma comes back to bite Emerson when he gets his due.

Even though it was a hard read it was beautifully executed. Jasmine had it rough since birth. First being born with HIV given to her by her mother. To losing her mother from AIDS at a young age. Looking for love in all the wrong places she becomes promiscuous as a teenager. Taken advantage by her aunt’s boyfriend he starts to rape her and share her with his friend. Jordon should’ve never hooked up with her bestie boyfriend she seen how he treated her. It was a sad but very good book.

This book is gross and disgusting and it’s not because of the sex. It’s the underage sex and abuse for me. No wonder it was short. I listened to the sample and was like “haha I didn’t know tubi made audiobooks” and then BAM it got gross! Aggressive sexual behavior, DV, rape, I must’ve missed the warnings if there were any.

On the other hand, I guess I should’ve known by the cover lol. Good last couple of chapters I guess.

Raw and Unapologetic

I’m going to be honest with this one because that’s the only way I know how to review a book. The Coldest Hoe by Cornelia Smith was a hard read for me. Not because the writing was bad, but because the story itself carries a lot of weight. This is one of those books that pulls you into a world that’s gritty, uncomfortable, and emotionally heavy.

From the beginning, the story drops you into situations that are raw and sometimes difficult to process. There were moments when I had to pause and just sit with what I read because the reality of the characters’ lives felt intense. The author doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and I think that’s what makes the book impactful. You see the pain, the survival instincts, the manipulation, and the complicated choices people make when they’re trying to navigate difficult circumstances.

What stood out to me the most is how the book shows that life isn’t always black and white. It’s easy to judge characters based on the decisions they make, but when you start seeing the layers behind those decisions—the trauma, the environment, the need to survive—you begin to realize that things are a lot more complicated than they seem on the surface.

Reading this book also made me think about how people cope with trauma and how environments can shape behavior. Some of the characters are clearly operating in survival mode, making choices that might not make sense to outsiders but feel necessary in their reality. That psychological aspect added another layer to the story for me because it shows how experiences and circumstances can influence identity, self-worth, and the paths people end up taking.

This isn’t a light or feel-good read at all. It’s gritty, emotional, and at times uncomfortable. But sometimes those are the kinds of stories that make you stop and really think. This book doesn’t try to make the lifestyle look glamorous—it shows the darker side of it and the emotional toll it can take.

While this wasn’t a book I could sit and breeze through, it definitely left an impression on me. It’s the kind of story that makes you reflect on people’s lives, their choices, and the realities that many readers may never personally experience.

If you decide to pick this one up, just know you’re stepping into a story that is raw, heavy, and very real. It may not be an easy read, but it’s definitely one that can spark conversation.

This was a nice little listen through audiobook. This is a new to me author. This book started off and ended with so much hood drama. That Emerson was something else, a woman beat and manipulator. There are a lot of triggers warnings in this book that I don’t recall being listed at the beginning of the audiobook such as, assault, molestation, extreme sexual content, and domestic abuse. This will not be everyone’s cup of tea for that reason. Brianna and Emerson were not a good match from the beginning. She wanted to taken care of as well as flaunted around. Emerson gave magjor “Ike Turner” vibes. The way he did his women almost made it hard to believe his character actually preference was a woman! Jordan knew she was dead wrong for what she didn’t to Brianna and I didn’t fault Brianna at all for finally learning the truth and not wanting to hear her words. But that little Jasmine is the spawn of satan! I felt bad for her and upset with her all at the same time. The story was a bit fast paced since it was only a little of 4 hours in audible. The ending threw me for a loop! I will definitely be reading the next book but be warned of those trigger warnings! 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Captivating

The title is perfect for everything going on in this book.
Brianna - Seems to always catch the short end of the stick from backstabbing friends to abusive spouse.

Emerson - A real wealthy scumbag I feel like he got everything he deserved in the end expect a prison sentence. See how he likes it when somebody beating him & forcing themselves on him.

Jordan - 50/50 she is a troubled snake the best way I can put it easily deceived. She still is dirty for what she did to her so called best friend.

Jasmine - A true product of her environment she is everything negative with a pretty face & deceptive soul. She will use manipulation, sex or anything she can to get ahead .

Wow!!

When I read the disclaimer at the beginning of this book, I had no idea what I was getting into! Whew, this story was a lot. I had trouble truly understanding Jordan and Bryanna' friendship. They each had too much going on. And that Emerson!! He was disgusting and needs to be underneath somebody's jail! I couldn't give five stars due to the spelling errors and a few other discrepancies throughout the book. I am anxious to see how this story unfolds. The lives of Emerson, Jordan, Bryanna and Jasmine will never be the same!!

This book was addictive from start to finish. Emerson was an controller, I think Bre is a gold diggers and wants to be kept I don't think that's Emerson baby I think it may be his friend fatboy cause the little money she got from selling his things would not afford her to live the way she was, plus why get another condo when the one he left her was already paid for? Jasymn was seeking love but she had it all along from her aunt now I wonder which man is her baby daddy Emerson or the trucker, can't wait for part 2

Oh My Karma Is A Harsh Pill To Swallow!

Cornelia, my lord, this read had me all in my feelings. Emerson is lower than the dirt under a shoe. Brianna didn't deserve what she received from Emerson nor Jordan. Emerson was such a manipulator, oh but he got his just karma and still didn't take accountability for his actions. Jasmine has so much self hatred she is just looking for a way to make her self feel good. I just can't imagine what will happen next

Very Unexpected Read

Wow this book was truly full of surprises. First off let me say that the only person I have any sympathy for is Brianna. Emerson got exactly what he deserved with his sick butt. Jordan lucked up by only losing her friendship and little miss Jasmine needs therapy because she's looking for love in all the wrong places. I wonder who's gonna come out on top in the end.

WOW

Why o why, did they let a man come In between them if they are just like sisters. I can understand piano being so insecure because that's the way her mother raised her to me But for Jordan Wish she did no it wasn't right and then turn around and have her niece jasmine do the same thing to her. May I need to get the stuff together and just leave Emerson alone cause apparently he's playing all 3 of them against each other.

This was a wild ride right here. Everybody was backstabbing everybody except Brianna. They were doing all of this because of small meat Emerson and I couldn't understand it. Jasmine was something serious to be so young. Babygirl really needed a hug or something. Jordan got just what she deserved cause how you think he is gonna do you better than he did your friend. This book put the M in messy. I cannot wait to get into book 2.

Wild

This story was definitely interesting with a lot of twists and turns. Brianna is better than me cause I would’ve done a lot more and I wouldn’t have even kept it. This was literally her chance to start over and she missed it. Emerson was sick and I’m sad he won’t have to pay for his crimes. Jasmine was just lost honestly and all over the place. I hope she finds healing somewhere and help. Jordan, her karma isn’t swift enough for me

Don't waste your time on this. If I could, I would have rated it zero stars, and that still would have been too gracious. It was terrible. No trigger warnings. The content, storyline, characters - it was all just trash. Urban lit isn't my first pic, but I've read a few in my day, and this just isn't it. Without question, the worst book I've ever read.
Edit to add: I listened to the Audible version, which was narrated in AI. This was also terrible.

This was not the book for me 😅 I do usually enjoy a messy read, but this was just too much for me! I was good up until the whole Jasmine thing. That was actually sick.

Jordan was wrong for doing Brianna the way she did. You seen how Emerson treated her, why would you think he would do right by you? Emerson was disgusting for what he did with Jasmine, but Jasmine was so careless for the activities she was engaging in, especially knowing her situation. Everyone in this book was just ridiculous.

Karma

Where do I start??? I had to take some time to digest this one. It was a lot. I will say that this book demonstrates karma at its finest. Emerson is definitely a piece of work and Jordan, there are no words for her or Jasmine. This was definitely a jaw dropping read from all the betrayal, deception and backstabbing. I can’t wait to see what part 2 brings.

Wow

This book went left to right back to left again…I didn’t think the plot could thicken anymore but it did . Emerson was doing way too much. He knew exactly what he was doing when he was doing it. I feel sorry for Jasmine and I hope she gets help for herself soon. Jordan…karma got ya!

Whew Child

This is why folks have their heads split to the white meat. Then knocked between the washer and dryer. In the case I blame both the ninja and the best friend. In Emerson's case I'm sure he didn't mean to bite off that much. Now I understand why ole boy at school was pissed!!!!
