The remarkable life of a woman deemed ordinary in the eyes of the world but extraordinary in the Kingdom of God.
Few of us are called to preach before thousands and become household names, but all of us are called to be faithful. It is in the quiet, undeclared lives of those around us that we find the most inspiring stories; those whose lives bring us closer to the glory of God.
This is one such story, of a woman who survived war, shipwreck, ravages of life in postwar Hong Kong and life as a Chinese immigrant to the UK in the 1960s; a captivating story of an unusual woman who sought to live a life as an authentic Christian, whatever the circumstances and whatever the cost.
Written by her daughter, this book also provides insight into life for migrants in Hong Kong in the 1950s and the life of Chinese immigrants who came to England in the 1960s.
I enjoyed reading the life journey of Tung Lau, the author's mother. The story begins in China and moves to Hong Kong and then the UK. Tung encountered so many difficulties in her life, and it was amazing to me that she could still have so much strength in the face of early childhood trauma, difficult relationships, and health issues. I grew up in Hong Kong, and in reading Late Spring, I could visualize Tung Lau's journey through the details the author provides. I also enjoyed learning about the historical background around the war, the economic situation in Hong Kong, and the lives of people both in Hong Kong and as new immigrants in the UK. Her faith in God carried her through her life challenges.
This is a well-told story of true grit and hope in both face of adversity. As someone who has lived in China and Hong Kong, it was a further glimpse into the story of so many who live there. Thank you Annie for writing this down and for helping us to see Christ who makes all things new.
